Microwave Dielectric Properties of Oriented BN / Polyvinyl Butyral Matrix Composites

  • The effects of an amphiphilic agent and the orientation of BN on the microwave dielectric properties of BN / polyvinyl butyral (PVB) composites were investigated as a function of the BN content in volume fractions from 0.1 to 0.5 ($V_f$). The plate-shaped BN samples were oriented in the PVB matrix by physical processes, in this case tape casting and laminate methods. With an increase in the BN content, the dielectric constant (K) increased because the K of BN was higher than that of the PVB. At the same BN content, composites with an in-plane orientation of the BN showed a higher dielectric constant than that of composites with a transverse orientation of the BN because the ceramics were oriented parallel to the electric field. All of the composites showed nearly constant K values ranging from 1 to 9.4 GHz, indicating good frequency stability over a wide frequency range. At the same frequency, the K values of the composites increased with an increase in the BN content.

Milk Protein-Stabilized Emulsion Delivery System and Its Application to Foods

  • Milk proteins, such as casein and whey protein, exhibit significant potential as natural emulsifiers for the preparation and stabilization of emulsion-based delivery systems. This can be attributed to their unique functional properties, such as the amphiphilic nature, GRAS (generally recognized as safe) status, high nutritional value, and viscoelastic film-forming ability around oil droplets. In addition, milk protein has been used as a coating material in emulsion-based delivery systems to protect bioactive compounds during food processing and storage owing to its unique functional properties. These properties include the ability to bind lipophilic bioactive compounds and antioxidant activity. In this review, we present the use of milk proteins as emulsifiers for the formation of emulsions and food applications of milk protein-stabilized emulsion delivery systems.

단층/다층 LB 분자막의 트라이볼로지 특성 (Tribological properties of mono/multilayer LB molecular films)

  • The tribological properties of amphiphilic monolayers and composite multilayer on silicon surface were investigated using micro-tribometer and Auger Electron Spectroscopy. Langmuir-Blodgett (LB) monolayers from behenic acid. 2.4-heneicosanedione(HD) and its copper complex((HD)$_2$Cu) were fabricated on silicon surface and the composite multilayer of 5-bilayer of (HD)$_2$Cu was fabricated on the surface of octadecyltrichlorsilane (OTS) self-assembled monolayer(SAM). We observed that LB monolayers and the composite multilayer exhibited a steady and excellent friction response when compared with the OTS SAM. These LB mono and multilayer also showed much higher wear-resistance than the OTS SAM.

실란 기능화 양친성 고분자 전구체를 이용한 소수성 항균물질 담지 나노 입자 제조 및 항균 특성 (Preparation of Hydrophobic Antimicrobal Compounds Encapsulated Nanoparticles Using Alkoxysilane-functionalized Amphiphilic Polymer Precursor and Their Antimicrobial Properties)

  • 본 연구에서는 50 wt%의 매우 높은 담지량과 70%의 높은 고형분을 가지면서도 물속이나 다양한 제품에 나노 입자 형태로 분산이 가능한 새로운 형태의 소수성 항균 물질 담지 나노 입자를 제조하였다. 실란 기능화 양친성 고분자 전구체(Alkoxysilane-functionalized Amphiphilic Polymer Precursor; 이하 AAPP)와 다양한 실란 화합물을 이용하여 전형적인 Hydrolytic Sol-Gel 공정으로 제조된 수분산 유-무기 하이브리드 나노 입자들을 제조하고, 이를 이용하여서 나노 침전법을 사용하여서 소수성 항균물질을 고함량으로 담지할 수 있는 새로운 공정으로 소수성 항균물질인 Eugenol이 담지된 유-무기 하이브리드 형태의 나노입자 제조하였다. 나노 입자 제조시 제조 조건의 변화에 따른 나노 입자들의 크기, 담지량, 항균 활성 및 방출거동 등에 영향을 미치는 인자들을 조사하였다. 나노 입자의 종류에 관계없이 Minimal Inhibitory Concentration (MIC)는 50 mg/ml로 동일하였고, 모든 균주에서 99 %에 해당하는 우수한 항균력과 Pseudomonas aeruginosa (PSE)를 제외하고는 2주 이상의 항균 지속력을 나타내었다. 특히, Tetraethoxysilane (TEOS)를 첨가한 경우에는 견고한 무기물 도메인으로 인해 가장 높은 담지량 (50 wt.%)과 서방출 (Sustained release)을 나타내었고, Hexanediol (HD)을 첨가한 경우에는 HD 자체의 항균력과 용매로서의 역할도 하였기 때문에 가장 높은 항균력과 70%의 고형분을 나타내었다.

Poly(Ethylene Glycol)-branched Polyethylenimine-poly(L-phenylalanine) Block Copolymer Synthesized by Multi-initiation Method for Formation of More Stable Polyelectrolyte Complex with Biotherapeutic Drugs

  • An amphiphilic cationic branched methoxy poly (ethylene glycol)-branched polyethylenimine - poly(L-phenylalanine) (mPEG-bPEI-pPhe) block copolymer was successfully synthesized by ring-opening polymerization (ROP) of N-carboxyanhydride of L-phenylalanine (Phe-NCA) with mPEG-bPEI for the preparation of more stable polyelectrolyte complex (PEC) included a hydrophobic interaction. mPEG-bPEI was firstly prepared by the coupling of mPEG and bPEI using hexamethylene diisocyanate (HMDI). The structural properties of mPEG-bPEI-pPhe copolymers were confirmed by $^1H$ NMR. The copolymers exhibited a self-assemble behavior in water above critical aggregate concentration (CAC) in the range of 0.01-0.14 g/L. The CAC of copolymers obviously depended on the hydrophobic block content in the copolymers (the value decreased with the increase of the pPhe block content). The cationic copolymers have the ability to form multi-interaction complex (MIC) with bovine serum albumin (BSA) and plasmid DNA through multi-interaction (electrostatic and hydrophobic interaction). The physicochemical characterization of the complex was carried out by the measurement of zeta potential and particle size. Their zeta-potentials were positive (approximately +10 mV) and their sizes decreased with increasing pPhe contents in the copolymers (PPF/BSA wt% ratio = 2). The complex showed good stability at high ionic strength. Therefore, mPEG-bPEI-pPhe block copolymer was considered as a potential material to enhance the stability of complex including biotherapuetic drugs.

한외여과공정에서 양쪽성 고분자 나노파티클을 이용한 오염물 제거 (Removal of Pollutants using Amphiphilic Polymer Nanoparticles in Micellar-Enhanced Utrafiltration)

  • 생분해성 양쪽성 고분자를 이용하여 수용액에 존재하는 소수성 오염물질(페놀, 4-니트로페놀, 벤젠, 톨루엔) 및 중금속($Cs^{+},\;Mg^{2+},\;Cu^{2+},\;Ni^{2+},\;Cr^{3}$)을 제거하였다. 친수성을 띤 단량체로써 분자량이 서로 다른(1,100 그리고 5,000) methoxy poly(ethylene glycol) (MPEG)를 이용해 합성하였다. 투과실험 결과 상대적으로 분자량이 작은 MPEG를 이용해 합성한 경우보다 분자량이 큰 MPEG를 사용하였을 때 더 높은 제거율을 나타내었다. 한외여과공정을 이용해 오염물 없이 생분해성 나노파티클을 투과한 결과 나노파티클 용액의 농도가 100 mg/L 이상인 경우 나노 파티클 제거율은 98% 이상이었다. 소수성을 나타내는 오염원 제거시 소수성이 큰 오염원일수록 더 높은 제거율을 보였다. 또한 금속이온의 경우는 3가, 2가, 1가 이온의 순서로 제거율이 높았다.

  • The carboxylated MWNTs were successfully prepared by conventional acid treatment, and their structures were confirmed by FT-IR, Raman and TEM analysis. The water-dispersibility of the surface modified WNTs were good. The COOH-MWNT will show better stability during the emulsion polymerization as compared with Pristine MWNT. In-situ emulsion polymerizations of methyl methacrylate N(MMA) and n-butyl acrylate (BA) were carried out. Aggregate size and dispersion stability of the CNTs in water phase were measured using dynamic light scattering, turbidity, UV-visible spectrophotometer, and electron microscope. In addition, thermo-mechanical properties of MWNT/polymer nanocomposites were investigated.

  • In order to suppress a repulsive interfacial energy between hydrophilic clay and hydrophobic polymer matrix in preparing a polymer/clay nanocomposite, a third component of amphiphilic nature such as poly($\varepsilon$-caprolactone) (PCL) was introduced into the model system of styrene-acrylonitrile copolymers (SAN)/Na-montmorillonite. Once $\varepsilon$-caprolactone was polymerized in the presence of Na-rnontmorillonite, the successful ring-opening polymerization of $\varepsilon$-caprolactone and the well-developed exfoliated structure of PCL/Na-montmorillonite mixture were confirmed, Thereafter, SAN was melt-mixed with PCL/Na-montmorillonite nanocomposite, which resulted in that SAN matrix and PCL fraction were completely miscible to form homogeneous mixture with retention of the exfoliated state of Na-montmorillonite, exhibiting that PCL effectively stabilizes the repulsive polymer/clay interface and contributes the improvement of mechanical properties of the nanocomposites.
