The gas-phase dehydration of glycerol to acrolein was carried out over 10 wt % HSiW catalysts supported on different supports, viz. $\gamma-Al_2O_3$, $SiO_2-Al_2O_3$, $TiO_2$, $ZrO_2$, $SiO_2$, AC, $CeO_2$ and MgO. The same reaction was also conducted over each support without HSiW for comparison. Several characterization techniques, $N_2$-physisorption, thermogravimetric analysis (TGA), differential scanning calorimetry (DSC), the temperature-programmed desorption of ammonia ($NH_3$-TPD), temperature-programmed oxidation (TPO) with mass spectroscopy and CHNS analysis were employed to characterize the catalysts. The glycerol conversion generally increased with increasing amount of acid sites. Ceria showed the highest 1-hydroxyacetone selectivity at $315^{\circ}C$ among the various metal oxides. The supported HSiW catalyst showed superior catalytic activity to that of the corresponding support. Among the supported HSiW catalysts, HSiW/$ZrO_2$ and HSiW/$SiO_2-Al_2O_3$ showed the highest acrolein selectivity. In the case of HSiW/$ZrO_2$, the initial catalytic activity was recovered after the removal of the accumulated carbon species at $550^{\circ}C$ in the presence of oxygen.
Highly toxic gases such as hydrogen sulfide ($H_2S$), carbon dioxide ($CO_2$), and ammonia ($NH_3$) are generated by both nature and human activities and affect human health. In this research, activated carbon combined with $Ca(OH)_2$ and $CaCO_3$ (AC-CO and AC-CC, respectively) were fabricated and applied in absorbing toxic gases from air pollutants. Activated charcoal powder was compressed in the form of pellets and used in the designated conditions. The optimum operating conditions and material properties, such as adsorption capacity, effect of weight ratio of the mixture, and hardness, have been investigated after combining with the calcium derivative. The good performance exhibited in this study suggests that this material is expected to be an effective and economically viable adsorbent for $NH_3$, $CO_2$, and $H_2S$ removal from the air system.
Plasma enhanced chemical vapor deposition(PECVD) is a well established technique for the deposition of hydrogenated film of silicon nitride (SiNx:H), which is commonly used as an antireflection coating as well as passivating layer in crystalline silicon solar cell. PECVD-SiNx:H films were investigated by varying the deposition and annealing conditions to optimize for the application in silicon solar cells. By varying the gas ratio (ammonia to silane), the silicon nitride films of refractive indices 1.85 - 2.45 were obtained. The film deposited at $450^{\circ}C$ showed the best carrier lifetime through the film deposition rate was not encouraging. The film deposited with the gas ratio of 0.57 showed the best carrier lifetime after annealing at a temperature of $800^{\circ}C$. The single crystalline silicon solar cells fabricated in conventional industrial production line applying the optimized film deposition and annealing conditions on large area substrate of size $125mm{\times}125mm$ (pseudo square) was found to have the conversion efficiencies as high as 17.05 %. Low cost and high efficiency silicon solar cells fabrication sequence has also been explained in this paper.
In spite of low energy requirement, and operation and construction cost, biofilters with soil beds have not been operated efficiently. Because of excess moisture in winter and rainy periods, saturated pores in the bed prevent passage and sorption of odorous compounds. Sometimes this results in septic conditions that release previously sorbed and oxidized sulfur. Therefore, an economical and effective alternative needs to be developed. The objectives of this study were to confirm applicability of the granular scrap tires with compost for treating odorous gas as well as to obtain optimum design parameters for proposed system. In lab-scaled test, multiple stage reactors had lower headloss than a single stage reactor and less headloss was occurred for the gas with higher moisture content. For practical purpose, pilot-scaled reactor was operated to remove odor from septic tank, manure and animal wastewater treatment plant and composting machine. According to the results of pilot scaled test, $H_2S$ can be always removed completely and ammonia/amine can be removed excellently when proper moisture content is provided. The results from lab and pilot test showed that granular scrap tire could be replaced with soil as supporting material for biofilter showed excellent drainage because of its ability to reject moisture.

Nanofibers were prepared by electrospinning a solution of poly(lactic-co-glycolic acid) (PLGA) and their mean diameter was 340 nm. The PLGA nanofibers were treated with a plasma in the presence of either oxygen or ammonia gas to change their surface characteristics. The hydrophilicity of the electrospun PLGA nanofibers was significantly increased by the gas plasma treatment, as confirmed by contact angle measurements. XPS analysis demonstrated that the chemical composition of the PLGA nanofiber surface was influenced by the plasma treatment, resulting in an increase in the number of polar groups, which contributed to the enhanced surface hydrophilicity. The degradation behavior of the PLGA nanofibers was accelerated by the plasma treatment, and the adhesion and proliferation of mouse fibroblasts on the plasma-treated nanofibers were significantly enhanced. This approach to controlling the surface characteristics of nanofibers prepared from biocompatible polymers could be useful in the development of novel polymeric scaffolds for tissue engineering.
In this study, economic analysis program was developed for economic evaluation of hydrogen production, storage/delivery, and utilization technologies as well as overseas import of hydrogen. Economic analysis program can be used for the estimation of the levelized cost of hydrogen for hydrogen supply chain technologies. This program include five hydrogen production technology on steam methane reforming and water electrolysis, two hydrogen storage technologies (high compressed gas and liquid hydrogen storage), three hydrogen delivery technologies (compressed gas delivery using tube trailer, liquid hydrogen, and pipeline transportation) and six hydrogen utilization technologies on hydrogen refueling station and stationary fuel cell system. In the case of overseas import hydrogen, it was considered to be imported from five countries (Austraila, Chile, India, Morocco, and UAE), and the transportation methods was based on liquid hydrogen, ammonia, and liquid organic hydrogen carrier. Economic analysis program that was developed in this study can be expected to utilize for planning a detailed implementation methods and hydrogen supply strategies for the hydrogen economy road map of government.
(Society for Gas as a Marine Fuel, SGMF)에서도 LNG 벙커링에 대한 지침서를 마련하여 발간하였다.
Nowadays CFCs and HCFCs refrigerants are restricted because it cause depletion of ozone layer. Accordingly, this experiment apply the ammonia gas and not CFCs and HCFCs for refrigerant to study the performance characteristic from the superheat control and improve the energy efficiency from the high performance. The condensing pressure of refrigeration system is increased from 15.0bar to 16bar by 0.5bar and superheat temperature is increased from $0^{\circ}C$ to $10^{\circ}C$ by $1^{\circ}C$ at each condensing pressure. As the result of experiment, when the superheat temperature is $0^{\circ}C$ at each condensing pressure, the refrigeration system has the high performance.
The preparations of deodorizing fibers using medal-phthalocyanines have been investigated. The five metal-phthalocyanine derivatives(M-taPc, M=Fe, Co, Ni, Zn, Cu) were prepared in modest to good yields. The metal-phthalocyanine derivative as a deodorant material was introduced to fibers by a dyeing method. The deodorant activity(D.A.) of these deodorizing fibers was measured by chromogenic gas detector tubes. In comparison with untreated fibers, these deodorizing fibers was remarkably effective against $NH_3$ and CH3SH. More than 99% of ammonia can be removed within 20 min. The D.A.(%) of fiber adsorbed M-taPc was more than 80% after 90min.
