Several new $[Pd(L)X_2]$ complexes have been prepared with aminophosphines (L) such as trans-1,2-bis[diphenylphosphino)amino]cyclohexane and 1,2-bis[(diphenylphosphino) amino] propane that contain phosphorus atom as ${\pi}$-electron acceptor, and the bond character of complexes have been investigated by means of infrared and electronic spectroscopy. It was found that thiocyanate ions are N-coordinated possibly due to the steric and electronic influence of the phosphorus atom in aminophosphines that formed seven-membered chelate rings, and that spectrochemical series that is derived from the electronic spectra of the complexes is $NCS^- > Cl^- > Br^- > I^-$

The method of amino acid sequence determination from the C-terminal amino acid is proposed and mass spectrometric identification of thiohydantoins described previously. In this paper was discussed the fragmentation of thiohydantoin-ring by deutero substitution and model tripeptide have been degraded through three stages each, with interpretable results. The conditions employed in this method are mild enough for biological materials. The main features of the method are the following. 1. Thiohydantoins were formed in a non-aqueous medium a mixture of acetic anhydride, acetic acid and ammonium thiocyanate. 2. Mass sepectra of thiohydantoins derived from 20 amino acids were obtained with a mass spectrometer, JEOL model JMS-06H. 3. Cleavage of peptidyl thiohydantoin was made with an acidic from of a cation-exchange resin. (Amberlite IR-120) 4. Separation of the cleaved thiohydantoin and the parent peptide less one amino acid moiety was made by chromatography on a Sephadex G-10 column. 5. The peptide fraction was concentrated by freezedrying. 6. Thiohydantoin derivative of carboxyl terminal amino acid residue was introduced with a direct inlet probe in methanol solution.
The tetradecameric peptide (K47-K60) near the NH$_2$-terminal region of epithelial-cell adhesion molecule (Ep-CAM) was chosen as antigenic site and a polyclonal antibody was generated, which could recognize Ep-CAM from the mouse colon tissue or the colon cancer cell, CT-26, in Western blot analysis. Then, the fluorescein isothiocyanate (FITC), a fluorescence dye, was conjugated with the affinity purified Ep-CAM antibody using thiocyanate and the amino groups of FITC and antibody, respectively. The molar ratio of FITC to antibody was estimated approximately 1.86 to 1.00 by measuring the optical densities at 492 nm and 280 nm. Ep-CAM antibody-FITC conjugate was then used for immunohistochemistry of the CT-26 cells. Judging from the shapes formed by fluorescence, the Ep-CAM antibody could delivered FITC to the surface of cells in which Ep-CAM was expressed. This result implies that Ep-CAM antibody could be also used for the tissue-specific delivery of the photosensitizer to the target protein via antigen-antibody interaction.

In a balance experiment with rats either 0, 25 or 50% of the crude protein (CP) provided as casein in the control diet was replaced with cassava leaves (CL) (Manihot esculenta Crantz) or sweet potato vines (SPV) (Ipomoea balala). CL were either sun-dried or oven-dried at $60^{\circ}C$ or $105^{\circ}C$ or ensiled, while the SPY were either sun-dried or ensiled. The experiment included 3 blocks with 30 rats in each and six individuals per treatment group. Drying at $105^{\circ}C$ resulted in a reduction of the lysine (Lys) content, suggestive of the occurrence of Maillard reactions. Ensiling CL and SPV slightly decreased the CP. content as well as the sum of essential amino acids. The apparent fecal CP digestibility (dCP) and nitrogen retention were negatively affected by increasing the level of replacement (p<0.01 and p<0.001, respectively). The impaired amino acid profile observed when drying CL at $105^{\circ}C$ was found to be related to a slight decrease in dCP (p<0.001) as well as N retention (p<0.005). The effects of sun-drying and oven-drying in reducing the HCN content in CL were more potent than when ensiling. By increasing the total dietary HCN supply serum thiocyanide level, as well as urinary thiocyanate and linamarin output, were increased, with a weak relationship between them. Sun-drying and ensiling with cane molasses as additive successfully preserved the nitrogenous constituents and could be a means of preserving fresh green feed under tropical conditions.
Pleurotus djamor var. roseus is an edible mushroom isolated from the wild and cultivated on paddy straw substrates. The present study was carried out to compare the nutritional composition and antioxidant properties of P. djamor var. roseus at different growth stages (primordia, basidiomata, and mycelia). The protein content was is in the range of 31.48 to 35.50 g/100g dw. The crude fiber content ranged from 8.0 to 14.60 g, and that of total carbohydrates ranged from 44.75 to 48.90 g. Sodium, magnesium, and calcium reached the maximum levels in basidiomata, and selenium was detected in basidiomata and mycelia (0.47 - 0.22 mg/Kg). The amino acid profile showed that all essential and nonessential amino acids and glycine showed maximum levels in basidiomata and 15.98 ± 0.01 g/100g. The fatty acid profile showed the presence of saturated and unsaturated fatty acids; the unsaturated fatty acid content was maximum in all of the samples, ranging from 76 - 40.41%. The total phenol and flavonoid contents as well as the scavenging (DPPH), ferric thiocyanate (FTC), and thiobarbituric acid (TBA) activities in the context of methanol and water extracts from primordia, basidiomata, and mycelium were determined. Among them, basidiomata and mycelial methanol extracts exhibited significant antioxidant activity. Overall, these findings show that P. djamor var. roseus can be used as a functional food for daily consumption.
Green crystalline salts of substituted pyridinium oxopentachloromolybdates(V) were obtained from concentrated hydrochloric acid solution of molybdenum(V)-thiocyanate extract. $MoOCl_3(X-py)_2$ (X-py were 4-and 3-cyanopyridine, 2-amino-4-picoline and 4-acetylpyridine) were obtained by reflux of the corresponding substituted pyridinium salts of oxopentachloromolybdates(Ⅴ) in absolute ethanol. ($X-pyH_2$)[$MoOCl_5$]$H_2$O containing the $MoO^{3+}$ group are dissolved and hydrolysed in water but $MoOCl_3(X-py)_2$ are insoluble in water, alcohol and acetone. The complexes are paramagnetic compounds.
Cassava (Manihot esculenta, Crantz), an annual tropical tuber crop, was nutritionally evaluated as a foliage for ruminants, especially dairy cattle. Cultivation of cassava biomass to produce hay is based on a first harvest of the foliage at three months after planting, followed every two months thereafter until one year. Inter-cropping of leguminous fodder as food-feed between rows of cassava, such as Leucaena leucocephala or cowpea (Vigna unculata), enriches soil fertility and provides additional fodder. Cassava hay contained 20 to 25% crude protein in the dry matter with good profile of amino acids. Feeding trials with cattle revealed high levels of DM intake (3.2% of BW) and high DM digestibility (71%). The hay contains tannin-protein complexes which could act as rumen by - pass protein for digestion in the small intestine. As cassava hay contains condensed tannins, it could have subsequent impact on changing rumen ecology particularly changing rumen microbes population. Therefore, supplementation with cassava hay at 1-2 kg/hd/d to dairy cattle could markedly reduce concentrate requirements, and increase milk yield and composition. Moreover, cassava hay supplementation in dairy cattle could increase milk thiocyanate which could possibly enhance milk quality and milk storage, especially in small holder-dairy farming. Condensed tannins contained in cassava hay have also been shown to potentially reduce gastrointestinal nematodes in ruminants and therefore could act as an anthelmintic agent. Cassava hay is therefore an excellent multi-nutrient source for animals, especially for dairy cattle during the long dry season, and has the potential to increase the productivity and profitability of sustainable livestock production systems in the tropics.
$Mo_2O_4Cl_2$$(X-py)_4{\cdot}2H_2$O and $(X-pyH)_4$[$Mo_2O_4(NCS)_6)$]${\cdot}H_2$O have been prepared. The infrared, electronic and reflectance spectra, molar conductances and magnetic susceptibility data of complexes are reported. $Mo_2O_4Cl_2$$(X-py)_4{\cdot}2H_2$O (X-py were 3-and 4-cyanopyridine, nicotinamide, 3,5-lutidine and 2-amino-4-picoline) were obtained by hydrolysis of the corresponding substituted pyridinium oxopentachloromolybdates(Ⅴ). Addition of water and substituted pyridines to molybdenum(Ⅴ)-thiocyanate ethylacetate extract yielded brown compounds, $(X-pyH)_4$[$Mo_2O_4(NCS)_6)$]${\cdot}H_2$O where X-py were pyridine, ${\alpha}$, 3-bromopyridine 3,5-lutidine, 3-benzoylpyridine and 4-acetylpyridine. Binuclear, $Mo_2O_4Cl_2(X-py)_4{\cdot}2H_2$ prepared from hydrolysis of $(X-pyH)_2[MoOCl_5]{\cdot}H_2O$ were diamagnetic and nonelectrolytes. The anion of $(X-pyH)_4$[$Mo_2O_4(NCS)_6)$]${\cdot}H_2$O was formulated as dimer and electrolyte.

Soybean sauce fermented with soybean and wheat, has been a major condiment of Korean diets from centuries ago. Melanoidin, a brown pigment generally found in various food systems, is a final product produced in amino-carbonyl reaction during soybean sauce processing. Antioxidative activities of soybean sauce and melanoidin were investigated in vitro system using linoleic acid emulsion. Soybean sauce and glucose-lysine model melanoidin showed the stronger antioxidative effect than control by ferric thiocyanate and conjugated diene assays. In addition, DPPH radical scavenging effect of soybean sauce was higher than melanoidin, which was ascribed to soluble peptide and low molecular protein existing in soybean sauce. To ascertain antioxidative effect of dietary soybean sauce and melanoidin in vivo, the male Wister rats were fed 10% soybean sauce or 10% glucose-lysine model melanoidin with corn oil or fish oil for 5 weeks. Fatty acid compositions in liver and plasma were influenced by oil source. Therefore, EPA and DHA contents of fish oil group were higher than those of corn oil group. When the inhibitory effect of soybean sauce and melanoidin on lipid peroxidation using TBARS methods was measured, fish oil group (FC) showed higher malondialdehyde (MDA) content than corn oil group (CC). However, supplementation of soybean sauce and melanoidin to fish oil group attenuated MDA formation. In the levels of phosphatidyl choline hydroperoxide (PCOOH) in liver and plasma by CL (chemiluminescence)-HPLC method, PCOOH in FC group was significantly higher than that of CC group both in liver and plasma. Supplementation of soybean sauce to fish oil groups significantly inhibited the formation of PCOOH in plasma and liver, while melanoidin suppressed hepatic PCOOH formation. Based on these results, it can be suggested that soybean sauce possesses stronger antioxidative potential than melanoidin.
