  • In this paper, we propose indoor positioning algorithm performed at the image sensor equipped in mobile station, which receives the light signal from LED panels. To evaluate the performance of positioning algorithm, we consider the ambient noise existing indoor environment, and it is found that the proposed algorithm estimates the position of mobile station with high accuracy regardless of existence of ambient noise.

  • Purpose: Generally, 30% of the total energy consumption in office building is used for artificial indoor lightings, and almost 75-85% of electric power in fluorescent and Light-Emitting Diode (LED) lightings can be dissipated as a form of heat into indoor environment. The heat generated by indoor lightings can cause the increase of cooling load in office buildings. Thus, it its important to consider indoor lightings as a heat and light source, simultaneously. Method: In this study, we installed two kinds of indoor lightings including fluorescent and LED lightings and measured surface temperature of both indoor lightings. In addition, we obtained ambient temperature of indoor space and finally calculated total heat dissipated from plenum area and surface of lightings. Result: Total indoor heat gain was 87.17Wh and 201.36Wh in cases of six 40W-LED lightings and 64W-fluorescent lightings, respectively.

  • The contribution of light in high-energy film dosimetry was examined using six commercially available solid water substitute phantoms. As six commercially available phantoms; RMI-451, Mix-DP, WE211, WE211-Black, PMMA and PMMA Black were evaluated in this study. It is difficult to evaluate the contribution of Cerenkov radiation and the optical permeability to the relative and/or absolute dosimetry using unpacked film in these phantoms. Therefore the contribution of Cerenkov radiation was estimated by the comparison between film densities in the shielded side (shutting off the light) and unshielded sides on a phantom. The effect of optical permeability was measured under ambient light by the time scale method. The results suggest that the use of black colored phantoms may improve the accuracy of dose measurement in film dosimetry.

  • We developed the high-power LED beacon and investigated the applicability of composite materials for the light-weight design of LED beacon. By means of the application of composite materials, the vertical deformation could be reduced by 17% and the total weight of LED beacon 8.9 kg comparable to 20% light-weighting against aluminum beacon. In thermal radiation test, the maximum temperature of LED package was measured to $63.5^{\circ}C$ under ambient temperature ($20^{\circ}C$), which is acceptable considering both performance and lifespan of LED packages. In this study, the applicability of composite materials was demonstrated for light-weight design of high-power LED beacon.

  • In this study, Exit light installed in offices, malls, hospitals, and factories were analyzed to analyze the luminance performance of CCFL and LED light sources. In addition, fire protection products with electrical characteristics such as Exit light may change their performance due to ambient temperature, humidity, and dust. So it was extracted by installation place and analyzed its characteristics. As a result of the experiment, Exit light for CCFL type showed the value of 'ratio of luminance 2' for large, medium and small. Considering that the reference value was 'lower than 9', the value was very good and it can be seen that there is almost no change in ratio of luminance due to aging. The Exit light for LED type showed a value of 'ratio of luminance 5', which means that the light on the display surface is not uniform. In addition, there was almost no change in ratio of luminance due to ageing, but the ratio of luminance was larger than Exit light for LED type. This is an unsatisfactory result from a visual point of view. To improve this, it is necessary to disperse the light of LED light source and strengthen the regulation on ratio of luminance.

  • This study was conducted in order to determine changes in the growth responses of Quercus serrata and Q. aliena which are potential natural vegetation of riverine in Korea under four light gradients within ambient and elevated $CO_2$ concentration and temperature levels. As a result, growth responses of two species were affected by light factor. Aboveground, belowground, plant biomass and root:shoot ratio of two species grown under the control and treatment were increased in the highest light level. Plant biomass and root:shoot ratio of two oak species were not significantly affected by elevated $CO_2$ and temperature, while aboveground biomass of them was lower in the treatment than control. Belowground biomass of Q. serrata was lower in the treatment than control under the gradients that are more than 70% of light level. As light intensity increases, elevated $CO_2$ and temperature promoted root growth of two oak species but had a negative effect on aboveground growth. According to the principal component analysis(PCA), two oak species were discriminatively arranged based on factor 1 and 2. Also, the reactions towards the ambient and elevated $CO_2$ and temperature were slightly different. It is clearly visible that all features relied on axis 1 and axis II are highly correlated with most variables except for stem and shoot length.

  • The aim of this study is to protect workers and pedestrians from accidents at night or bad weather by attaching optical fiber to existing safety clothing that is made only with fluorescent fabrics and retroreflective materials. A safety vest was designed and manufactured by applying optical fiber, and energy-harvesting technology was developed. The safety vest was designed to emit light using the automatic flashing of optical fibers attached to the film, and an energy harvester was manufactured and attached to drive the light emission of the optical fiber more continuously. As a result, first, the vest wearer' body was recognized from a distance through the optical fiber and retroreflection, which helped prevent accidents. Thus, this concept helps in saving lives by preventing accidents during night-time work on the roadside or activities of rescue crew and sports activities, or by quickly finding the point of an accident with a signal that changes the optical fiber light emission. Second, to use the wasted energy, a piezoelectric-element power generation system was developed and the piezoelectric-harvesting device was mounted. Potentially, energy was efficiently produced by activating the effective charging amount of the battery part and charging it auxiliary. In the existing safety vest, detecting the person wearing the vest is almost impossible in the absence of ambient light. However, in this study, the wearer could be found within 100 m by the light emission from the safety vest even with no ambient light. Therefore, in this study, we will help in preventing and reducing accidents by developing smart safety clothing using optical fiber and energy harvester attached to save lives.

  • Fourteen(14) large commercial buildings located in Seoul with friable sprayed-on surface insulation material on ceiling were investigated for fiber types in bulk material and for airborne fiber concentrations in buildings by transmission electron microscopy (TEM) in order to compare the results with those by polarized light microscopy (PLM) and phase contrast microscopy (PCM). The results were as follows: 1. Chrysotile asbestos was found in one bulk sample out of total 14 bulk samples collected. Glass fiber and mineral wool were the two major constituents of the bulk samples. 2. The Na-Mg-Si-Ca-Fe-Al ratios of the EDX spectra which were normalized with the Si peak were 0-1.0-10-8.3-4.0-4.0 in mineral wool and 0-5-10-21-0-0 in chrysotile asbestos, respectively. 3. Airborne fiber concentrations were log-normalcy distributed and the geometric mean (geometric standard deviation) fiber concentrations by TEM in the underground parking lots and inside buildings were 0.0048 f/cc(1.93) and 0.0040 f/cc(2.27), respectively with no statistical difference. In the outdoor ambient air, statistically significantly lower concentration of 0.0018 f/cc(2.04) was measured. 4. The TEM/PCM ratios of airborne fiber concentrations ranged 0.5 - 2.0 for 80 % of airborne samples analyzed, end the regression equation between TEM and PCM was PCM=-0.2724+1.1355(TEM) with the coefficient of determination $R^2=0.52$. The results of this study confirmed that the sprayed-on surface insulation material found in some commercial buildings may possibly be contaminated with asbestos fiber. Since statistically significant relationship of fiber concentrations measured by PCM and TEM inside buildings and ambient air was found, previous results by PCM in ambient air could be used to estimate the ambient fiber concentrations in knowing the ratio of TEM/PCM.

  • In this study, we have investigated the effect of the ambient gases on the characteristics of IZO thin films for the OLED (organic light emitting diodes) devices. For this purpose, IZO thin films were deposited by RF magnetron sputtering under various ambient gases (Ar, $Ar+O_2$ and $Ar+H_2$) at $150^{\circ}C$. In order to investigate the influences of the oxygen and hydrogen, the flow rate of oxygen and hydrogen in argon mixing gas has been changed from 0.1sccm to 0.5sccm, respectively. All the samples show amorphous structure regardless of ambient gases. The electrical resistivity of IZO film increased with increasing flow rate of $O_2$ under $Ar+O_2$ while under $Ar+H_2$ atmosphere the electrical resistivity showed minimum value near 0.5sccm of $H_2$. All the films showed the average transmittance over 85% in the visible range. The OLED device was fabricated with different IZO substrates made by configuration of IZO/${\alpha}$-NPD/DPVB/$Alq_3$/LiF/Al to elucidate the performance of IZO substrate. OLED devices with the amorphous-IZO (a-IZO) anode film show better current densityvoltage-luminance characteristics than that of OLED devices with the commercial crystalline-ITO (c-ITO) anode film. It can be explained that very flat surface roughness and high work function of a-IZO anode film lead to more efficient hole injection by reduction of interface barrier height between anode and organic layers. This suggests that a-IZO film is a promising anode materials substituting conventional c-ITO anode in OLED devices.

  • PURPOSE. This study aimed to investigate the extent to which intraoral scanning are affected by clinical conditions, and whether ambient lighting and different color temperatures have an impact on the accuracy of intraoral scanner, as well as to evaluate scanning time. MATERIALS AND METHODS. Twelve different environments were created using various ambient lighting conditions (0, 500, 1000 and 1500 lux) and color temperatures (white, blue and yellow). A partially edentulous mandibular model with two implants and a three-unit bridge was scanned under each environment until 10 digital models were obtained, and scanning times were recorded using a virtual stopwatch. A 3D analysis was performed on the obtained digital models, and the data were analyzed using a software. The generalized linear model analysis and Tukey multiple comparison test were used to analyse the data (P < .05). RESULTS. The effect of lux, color temperature, and scanning times on RMS data was found to be significant (P < .001). The mean RMS value was the highest in the 0 lux group and the lowest in the 500 lux group. Regarding the color temperature, the highest RMS value was in the white color group and the lowest in the yellow color group. Scanning times were similar among the 0, 500 and 1000 lux groups, with a significant increase in the 1500 lux group. CONCLUSION. Different ambient lighting conditions and color temperatures have significant effect on the accuracy of intraoral scanning.
