Study on RDE (Real Driving Emission) Characteristic of Gasoline Vehicle Depending on the Ambient Temperature (대기 온도에 따른 가솔린 차량의 실도로 배출가스 특성 연구)

  • Despite the increasingly stringent automotive emissions regulations, the impact of vehicle emissions on air pollution remains large. In addition, since the issue of emission of more exhaust gas than the exhaust gas measured in the test room when the vehicle passing the exhaust gas regulation standard is run on the actual road, many countries studied and introduced gas regulations about Real Driving Emission using Portable Emission Measurement System. At present, Korea regulations restrict the number of NOx and PN in diesel vehicles. In the case of gasoline vehicles, there is no regulation on emission gas, but there is a problem of continuing automobile exhaust gas problems and a large amount of gasoline GDI vehicle's PN emission. So research and interest are increasing due to this problem. In this study, characteristics of exhaust gas depending on changes of ambient temperature were analyzed among various factors affecting exhaust gas measurement of gasoline vehicles. As a result, at the low temperature test, the lower the ambient temperature, the more the exhaust gas was emitted. At ordinary temperature test, no specific tendency was observed due to changes of ambient temperature.

  • One of the important problems in ac PDP in recent years is the misfiring of ac PDP at high ambient temperatures which consequently degrades the image quality of the ac PDP. This may be due to the change of working gas pressure and/or MgO surface characteristics at high ambient temperatures. This paper deals with the effect of working gas pressure on the misfiring of ac PDP at high ambient temperature. From this study, we found that the main cause of the misfiring at high ambient temperature is the increase in discharge firing voltage induced by increased working gas pressure

  • Numerical simulations of n-heptane spray characteristics in a constant volume combustion chamber under diesel engine like conditions with increasing ambient gas density ($14.8-142kg/m^3$) and ambient temperature (800-1000 K) respectively were performed to understand the non-vaporizing and vaporizing spray behavior. The effect of fuel temperature (ranging 273-313 K) on spray characteristics was also simulated. In this simulation, spray modeling was implemented into ANSYS FORTE where the initial spray conditions at the nozzle exit and droplet breakups were determined through nozzle flow model and Kelvin-Helmholtz/Rayleigh-Taylor (KH-RT) model. Simulation results were compared with experimentally obtained spray tip penetration result to examine the accuracy. In case of non-vaporizing condition, simulation results show that with an increment of the magnitude of ambient gas density and pressure, the vapor penetration length, liquid penetration length and droplet mass decreases. On the other hand vapor penetration, liquid penetration and droplet mass increases with the increase of ambient temperature at the vaporizing condition. In case of lower injection pressure, vapor tip penetration and droplet mass are increased with a reduction in fuel temperature under the low ambient temperature and pressure.

  • The effects of density change of ambient gas on mixture formation process have been investigated in high temperature and pressure field. To analyze the mixture formation process of evaporating diesel spray is important for emissions reduction in actual engines. Ambient gas density was selected as experimental parameter. The ambient gas density was changed from $r_a=5.0kg/m^3\;to\;r_a=12.3kg/m^3$ with a high pressure injection system(ECD-U2). For visualization of the experiment phenomenon, a CVC(Constant Volume Chamber) was used in this study. The ambient temperature and injection pressure are kept as 700K and 72MPa, respectively. The images of liquid and vapor phase in the evaporating free spray were simultaneously taken by exciplex fluorescence method. As experimental results, with increasing ambient gas density, the tip penetration of the evaporating free spray decreases due to the increase in the drag force from ambient gas.

  • An experimental and numerical analysis were conducted to investigate the transient temperature distribution and flame propagation characteristics over an inline polystyrene spheres under microgravity. From the experimental, a self-ignition temperature of polystyrene bead was 872 K under gravity. Flame spread rates were 4.7-5.1 mm/s with ambient gas N$_2$and 2.3-2.5 mm/s with ambient gas CO$_2$, respectively. Flame radius diameters were 17 mm with ambient gas N$_2$and 9.6 mm with ambient gas CO$_2$, respectively. These results suggest that the flame propagation speed could be affected in the Diesel engine and the boiler combustor by EGR. In terms of the flame spread rate and the transient temperature profile, numerical results have the qualitative agreement with the experiment.

  • The pressure and differential pressure(DP) transmitters are used for gas flow rate calculation on the orifice gas metering system. On site, the pressure and DP transmitters are installed in a shelter to diminish the affects of environmental change such as an ambient temperature. But there has been an argument about the effectiveness of the shelter and this brought up the necessity to verify the affects of ambient temperature. These experiments were performed to verify the ambient temperature effects as observing the output of transmitters when the ambient temperature were changed from $-30^{\circ}C$ to $50^{\circ}C$. The results showed that the most of transmitters were operated in the spec range of performance criteria presented by manufacturer but the rapid change of ambient temperature could cause the larger measurement error for the DP transmitter of low span than others. Therefore the pressure and DP transmitters need to be operated and controlled within the proper range of ambient temperature.

Temperature Dependency of Non-dispersive Infrared Carbon Dioxide Gas Sensor by using Infrared Sensor for Compensation (보상용 적외선 센서를 사용한 비분산 적외선 이산화탄소 센서의 온도특성)

  • NDIR $CO_2$ gas sensor was built with ASIC implemented thermopile sensor which included temperature sensor and unique elliptical waveguide structures in this paper. The temperature dependency of dual infrared sensor module ($CO_2$ and reference IR sensors) has been characterized and its output voltage characteristics according to the temperature and gas concentration were proposed for the first time. NDIR $CO_2$ gas and reference IR sensors showed linear output voltages according to the variation of ambient temperatures from 243 K to 333 K and their slopes were 14.2 mV/K and 8.8 mV/K, respectively. The output voltages of temperature sensor also presented a linear dependency according to the ambient temperature and could be described with V(T)=-3.191+0.0148T(V). The output voltage ratio between $CO_2$ and reference IR sensors revealed irrelevant to the changes of ambient temperatures and gave a constant value around 1.6255 with standard deviation 0.008 at 0 ppm. The output voltage of $CO_2$ gas sensor at zero ppm $CO_2$ gas consisted of two components; one is caused by the HPB (half pass-band) of IR filter and the other is attributed to the part of $CO_2$ absorption wavelength. The characteristics of output voltages of $CO_2$ gas sensor could be accurately modeled with three parameters which are dependent upon the ambient temperatures and represented small average error less than 1.5% with 5% standard deviation.

  • Korea is the geographic location during the summer, the temperature rising to $35^{\circ}C$ and winter temperature is $-15^{\circ}C$ to reduce the air temperature changes, such as relatively large compared to other countries. This increase or decrease of the harmful exhaust gas discharged from automobile substantially inconvenience a significant impact on the active side of the car engine temperature and exhaust gas reducing device receives a large impact on the atmospheric temperature is regulation to be different. However, domestic vehicle emissions test temperature of $20{\sim}30^{\circ}C$ is it does not reflect this situation the actual test temperature to accurately measure the exhaust gas volume of the vehicle is difficult. In this study, domestic automobile exhaust gas test conditions of a test temperature $20{\sim}30^{\circ}C$ various temperatures, including (35, 25, 0, -7, -15, $-25^{\circ}C$) under the two vehicles (2.0L MPI, 2.4 L GDI) as was discussed with respect to the exhaust gas characteristics of the vehicle according to the ambient temperature gas. As a result, domestic emissions test temperature of $25^{\circ}C$ than average conditions were temperature decreases greenhouse gas emissions and increase overall increased by up to 15 times higher.   • The main objective of this work is to investigate the effect of ambient conditions on the spray behavior and spray characteristics of high-pressure fuel injector. For this purpose, the effects of ambient pressure and temperature on the spray characteristics have been studied by applying the analysis of visualization system and phase Doppler particle analyzer. In this experiment, the visualization of spray behavior was performed under various ambient gas conditions and injection parameters such as gas temperature, ambient pressure, injection pressure of injector, and axial distance from the nozzle tip. Based on the investigation results, the spray tip penetration and spray width decrease with the increase of ambient gas pressure in the spray chamber. The effects of the spray parameters on the microscopic characteristics of gasoline spray were discussed.

  • This paper describes the measurement technology of the dissolved hydrogen gas due to partial discharge in oil using gas sensor. For higher resolution and less error in measurement of the dissolved hydrogen gas in oil, the sensor outputs with ambient temperature which affect the sensor output characteristics should be considered. The sensor output trends with ambient temperature and the properties of the dissolved hydrogen gas in oil with partial discharge characteristic were analyzed through the test results. It was indicated that the sensor peak and the base voltage with measuring time were affected by ambient temperature and the measurement errors of the sensor output by temperature were reduced by using the difference between the peak and the base voltage rather than just the peak voltage. In addition, the hydrogen gas sensor outputs were increased with the increase of partial discharge energy.
