디지털 제어를 이용한 알루미늄 아크 용접기의 기술현황 (Technology on Arc Welding Machine of Aluminum by Digital Control)

  • Recently, welding technology of nonferrous metals which were difficult to implement by arc welder has become available through digitalization of arc welding machine. Among them, the welding quality improvement of aluminum welding is very noticeable. These results increase the arc stability by controlling arc current and voltage waveform precisely, and control wire feed speed by synchronizing with arc current which the feed rate of filler wire is controlled by a precise motor control of servomotor and not by a simple constant speed feeding. Not only through the hardware digitalization of arc welding machine but also through advance of software of arc welding, it became possible to implement a certain level of welding quality by a simple operation. These led to CMT welding process implementation which requires low heat input than current arc welding and highly increased the applicability of the aluminum welding.

  • There is problem to reduce the car body weight for improving fuel consumption and $CO_2$ generation. As one of the solution, the multi material car body concept using aluminum alloys and high strength steels is proposed recently. Therefore, new welding processes by which these dissimilar material can be joined in high reliability and productivity are demanded. Laser spot welding was developed for joining of dissimilar metals. In the present work, Laser spot welding of zinc coated steel and aluminum alloy was investigated, and the process parameters were studied. Otherwise, the influences of process parameters on the weldability, the formation of intermetallic compound layer and the mechanical properties have been investigated. When intermetallic compound layer thickness was more than 1mm, specimen was failure in the interface.

가변 극성 아크의 알루미늄 용접성 향상에 관한 연구 (Weldability Increase of Aluminum by Variable Polarity Arc)

  • Low arc weldability of aluminum alloy is enhanced by applying variable polarity TIG and the result is theoretically investigated to figure out the mechanism. Conventionally, it is well known fact that DCEP (reverse polarity) arc is effective on aluminum welding. The reason is due to oxide layer removal by plasma ion bombardment and therefore it is named as cleaning effect. Another fact of polarity characteristic is that DCEN shows higher heat input efficiency therefore conventional variable polarity arc used to apply DCEP portion as small as possible. However, higher DCEP portion shows bigger weldment in this research and it is explained by adopting a theory of arc concentration on oxide layer with tunneling effect which was not clearly mentioned before in several variable polarity TIG welding research. Disagreement between variable polarity TIG welding result and conventional arc polarity theory is rationally explained for the first time with help of electron emission theory.

  • Aluminum alloys have been considered for substantial use in these industries. This ensues from their attractive strength to weight ratio, superb formability, apposite weldability and acceptable corrosion resistance. Depending on the specific application, corrosion behavior is a significant factor of a welded joint. In this study, recent researches in the view of corrosion resistance of friction stir welded aluminum alloys are briefly reviewed.

  • Decreasing products lifecycles and increasing consumers desires for quality and design make the automotive industries try to reduce time for developing new designs. In order to reduce developing time, I have designed head lamps, which are really important to have an effect on brand identities and images, using layers concept that is one of the international automotive design trends by alias and photoshop, and produced prototype by RP. To assemble the produced prototype to the body and manufacture the frame to exterior modelling efficiently, I have studied on joining dissimilar materials of aluminum alloy that can make the prototype lighter and stainless steel, which is good for corrosion resistance by using laser beam. These materials were welded for finding the optimum joining condition and evaluating the soundness of joining zone. The joining was performed under the condition of laser power 500, 550, 575, 600W and 11~14Hz. In this study, the suitable joining condition between aluminum alloy (Al 2024) and stainless steel (STS 304) can be obtained at the laser power 575W and frequency 12Hz.
