  • The purpose of this research is to prepare the aluminum electrode coated with activated carbon for removing air pollution dust. The experiments were studied on the selection of optimal polymer for binding aluminum plate with powdered activated carbon, preventing the pore blocking of activated carbon from polymer binder, and the dust treatability for the prepared activated carbon electrode. The optimal adhesive for coating activated carbon on an electric aluminum plate was polyvinyl acetate (PVA) with vinyl functional group. For the opening of the blocked pore with polymer, it was very effective to embed polymer solvent in pore of activated catbon firstly before mixing activated carbon with PVA, and then to devolatilize the embedded solvent of carbon pore at high temperature. The mass of trapped dust on aluminum electrode coated with activated carbon was about double of the trapped one on just aluminum electrode.

  • In an attempt to enhance luminance efficiency and to reduce discharge delays of test panels with aluminum fence-electrodes, various designs of the electrodes were prepared by chemically etching the aluminum foils bonded to soda-lime glass substrate via anodic bonding process. The effects of fence design on luminance and discharge characteristics were investigated and compared with conventional ac-PDPs. These results showed a possibility of using fence-type aluminum electrode at front plates of ac-PDDs without sacrificing its performance.

  • Resistance spot welding has been widely used in the sheet metal joining processes because of its high productivity and convenience. In the resistance spot welding processes the size of molten nugget is a criterion to assess weld quality. Many research have founded on measuring weld nugget size at the same time monitoring welding process parameters such as dynamic resistance and electrode movement. With increasing demand of energy saving, many efforts were made to employ aluminum alloys that are lighter than steel and have relatively equivalent strength to steel in the automobile industry. In this paper, spot weldability of aluminum alloys for various welding conditions were examined by series of experiments. One of the 6000 series (Mg-Si) aluminum alloy, 6383-T4 was chosen, which is currently considered as a substitute for the galvanized steel. Dynamic resistance, electrode movement and corresponding nugget size were observed and compared to the case of steel. Finally, resistance spot welding of dissimilar material (galvanized steel-aluminum alloy) was attempted.

  • In this study, aluminum electrodes were put in marine clay which was taken from the south coast in Korea to increase the undrained shear strength by inducing the densification and cementation between clay particles and precipitates which were developed by electric decomposition in an electrode. To raise the cementation rate and reduce treatment time, high electric current (2.5A) was applied in each electrode at a semi-pilot scale soil box with marine clay. After the tests, the undrained shear strength was measured at designated points using a static cone penetration test device and sampling was conducted simultaneously in order to measure water content, pH and electric conductivity which would be the key for configuring the cementation effects indirectly. In the results of electric decomposition in aluminum electrode, the measured shear strength was increased considerably compared to the initial shear strength because of the cementation effect between iron ions and soil particles.

  • In this paper, a double spot welding process, utilizing electric resistance heating dies, is suggested for the spot welding of dissimilar metal plates for drawing and concurrent spot welding. This double welding process has two heating methods for the fusion welding at the interfacial zone between steel and aluminum plates, such as heating method by thermal conduction of electric resistance by welding current induced to heating dies, and heating method by electric resistance between contacted surfaces of two plates by welding current induced to copper electrode. This double welding process has welding variables such as each current induced in heating dies and in copper electrode, outer diameters of heating dies, and edge shape of copper electrode. Experiments for current conditions in welding process should be demanded in order to get successful welding strength. It was known that the welding strength could be reached to the value demanded on industry fields under such welding conditions as heating dies of outer ring dia.12mm contacted on steel plate, as heating dies of outer ring dia. 14mm contacted on aluminum plate, and as copper electrode of dia. 6.0mm, and as 3 times continuous heating method by $1^{st}$ current of 11 kA(9cycle), $2^{nd}$ current 11 kA(60cycle), $3^{rd}$ current 7 kA(60cycle) applied in steel heating dies and copper electrodes, flat edge of copper electrode, for double spot welding process of dissimilar metal plates of steel and aluminum of 1.0 mm thickness.

  • In order to obtain the basic informations for the development of high strength and high weldability aluminum alloy sheets, the experimental study was carried out to evaluate resistance spot welding characteristics and welding parameters (welding current, welding time, electrode force) far the aluminum alloy sheets. The mechanical properties of spot weld of aluminum alloy were evaluated by tensile shear test and by peel test at room temperature and also the welding possible zone was established through variation of current electrode force and welding time.

  • Transparent and conducting aluminum-doped ZnO electrodes were fabricated by atomic layer deposition methods. The electrode showed the lowest resistivity of $5.73{\times}10^{-4}{\Omega}cm$ at a 2.5% cyclic layer deposition ratio of Trimethyl-aluminum and Diethyl-zinc chemicals. The electrodes showed minimum resistivity when deposited at a temperature of $225^{\circ}C$. The electrode also showed optical transmittance of about 92% at 300 nm. An organic solar cell made with a 300-nm-thick aluminum-doped ZnO electrode exhibited 2.0% power conversion efficiency.

  • This study analyzes the effect of anodizing conditions on nanopore formation on a cylindrical aluminum roll. In general, a nanopore is formed at the center of a concave base-pattern. Occasionally, multiple nanopores are formed on a single base-pattern. However, to control the diameter and interpore distance precisely, single nanopores are required. In this study, the ratio of the number of single nanopores to the total number of nanopores was investigated by varying anodizing conditions such as electrode area, electrolyte concentration, and rotation speed of the roll mold. The areal ratio of the counter-electrode to the working electrode (aluminum), electrolyte concentration, and the roll-mold rotation speed were varied from 0.4% to 42%, 0.07 M to 0.3 M, and 5 rpm to 75 rpm, respectively. The experimental results showed that the single-nanopore ratio increased with increasing counter-electrode area and electrolyte concentration. However, the rotation speed had no significant effect on nanopore shape.
