  • Copper die casting motor (CDM) has a better design flexibility than aluminium die casting motor (ADM) because of the higher conductivity of copper. However, CDM has an economic and manufacturing weak point due to high copper price and high melting temperature compared to ADM. This paper describes a comparison of the design parameters, specifications, performances and material cost between CDM and ADM of 5.5kW_6P.

  • A new forming technology has been developed to fabricate near-net shape products using light metal. A semi-solid forming technology has some advantages compared with the conventional forming processes such as die casting squeeze casting and hot/cold forging. In this study the numerical analysis of semi-solid filling for a straight die shape and orifice die shape in gate pattern is studied on semi-solid materials(SSM) of solid fraction fs =30% in A356 aluminum alloy. The finite difference program of Navier-Stokes equation coupled with heat transfer and solidification has been developed to predict a filling pattern and the temperature distribution of SSM. The programdeveloped in this study gives die filling patterns of SSM and final solidifica-tion region.

레오로지 박판의 전자교반을 응용한 진공 저압주조 제조공정 (Fabrication Process of Rheology Material Thin Plate Using Vacuum Low Pressure Die-casting Process with Electromagnetic Stirring)

  • In this study, we develop the lower pressure die casting with rheo-forming process of A356 aluminum alloy and vacuum system which can control the crystal size and obtain the high strengthened-light material. Using this process, we fabricate the thin plate for bipolar plate through the low pressure die casting with electromagnetic stirring and vacuum-evacuation which can control the crystal grain by electromagnetic stirring. Thin plate ($110mm{\times}130mm{\times}1mm$) is fabricated by this process. The average Vickers hardness of thin plate is about 77 HV.

Al 합금과 STD61강의 소착에 미치는 첨가원소 Fe, Mn의 영향 (Effects of Fe, Mn Contents on the Al Alloys and STD61 Steel Die Soldering)

  • Recently, various attempts to produce a heat sink made of Al 6xxx alloys have been carried out using die-casting. In order to apply die-casting, the Al alloys should be verified for die-soldering ability with die steel. It is generally well known that both Fe and Mn contents have effects on decreasing die soldering, especially with aluminum alloys containing substantial amounts of Si. However, die soldering has not been widely studied for the low Si aluminum (1.0~2.0wt%) alloys. Therefore, in this study, an investigation was performed to consider how the soldering phenomena were affected by Fe and Mn contents in low Si aluminum alloys. Each aluminum alloy was melted and held at $680^{\circ}C$. Then, STD61 substrate was dipped for 2 hr in the melt. The specimens, which were air cooled, were observed using a scanning electron microscope and were line analyzed by an electron probe micro analyzer. The SEM results of the dipping soldering test showed an Al-Fe inter-metallic layer in the microstructure. With increasing Fe content up to 0.35%, the Al-Fe inter-metallic layer became thicker. In Al-1.0%Si alloy, the additional content of Mn also increased the thickness of the inter-metallic layer compared to that in the alloy without Mn. In addition, EPMA analysis showed that Al-Fe inter-metallic compounds such as $Al_2Fe$, $Al_3Fe$, and $Al_5Fe_2$ formed in the die soldering layers.

  • Recently, in the field of automobile industry, to solve the problem of reducing the weight of automobile for the improvement of fuel efficiency and the protection of environment, the aluminum alloy parts have been substituted for the steel parts. However, the aluminum alloy does not have as good mechanical property as the steel part. To improve the mechanical property, the semi-solid die casting process is performed to make automobile parts. In the fabrication of semisolid material the control of the liquid segregation is very important to improve the material properties of aluminum alloy. In the present paper we examine the influence of the liquid segregation by the injection conditions in the semi-solid die casting has been investigated.

알루미늄 사형주조에서 기공 결함 감소를 위한 연구 (A study on the reduction of blow hole defects in aluminum sand casting)

  • In this study attempted to prevent defects due to blow holes among defects of sand casting products. It was intended to reduce the defect rate by reducing the blow hole of the inner surface. Currently, expectations and requirements for the quality level of non-ferrous aluminum casting in the casting industry are increasing. In addition, the shape is complex and the shrinkage precision is required. Among them, the test prototype is expensive to manufacture the mold, and the production time is also long, and the product is manufactured by sand casting. At this time, the highest defect rates are defects caused by shrinkage defects, surface defects, and blow holes.. At this study, the manufacturing time was shortened by using the shape of the fluid movement path in advance. Also, it is possible to reduce defects due to blow holes.

다이캐스팅법에 의해 제조된 SiC 입자강화 알루미늄합금기 복합재료의 미세조직 및 인장특성 (Microstructure and Tensile Properties of $SiC_p$-reinforced Aluminum Alloy Composites Fabricated by Die Casting Method)

  • The main objective of this study is to investigate the microstructure and tensile strength of $SiC_p$/Al alloy composites fabricated by die casting method. Die casting was performed using the preheated mold at the pouring temperature range of $620{\sim}750^{\circ}C$ under the pressure of $1,039 kgf/cm^2$. The low speed and a following high injection speed were 0.4 and 2.1 m/s, respectively. The microstructure of $SiC_p$/Al alloy composites fabricated by die casting method was found to be finer than that of composites fabricated by gravity casting. Also, SiC particulates were homogeneously distributed in refined Al matrix due to rapid solidification. The tensile strength of $SiC_p$/Al alloy composites fabricated by die casting method was found to be varied with cast temperature. The maximun tensile strength of $SiC_p$(10 vol.% and 20 vol.%)/Al alloy composites showed 380 MPa at the cast temperature of $750^{\circ}C$ and 363 MPa at the cast temperature of $700^{\circ}C$, respectively.

다이캐스팅 모바일 기기의 기공결함 감소를 위한 유동구조 설계 (A Gating System Design to Reduce the Gas Porosity for Die Casting Mobile Device)

  • Usually, the die-cast components used in small mobile devices require finishing processes, such as computer numerically controlled coating. In such cases, porosity is the most important defect. The shape of the molten aluminum that passes through the runner and gate in a mold is the one of the factors that influences gas porosity. To define the spurt index, which numerically indicates the shape of molten aluminum after the gate, Reynolds number and Ohnesorge number are used. Before die fabrication, computer-aided engineering analysis is performed to optimize the filling pattern. Finally, X-ray and surface inspection are performed after casting and machining to evaluate how the spurt index affects porosity and other product parameters. Based on the results obtained herein, a new gating system design process is suggested.

유도전동기 회전자 금형주조 시 품질평가 (Quality Evaluations of Induction Motor Rotors during Die Casting Process)

  • 본 연구에서는 산업현장에서 널리 사용되고 있는 소형 유도전동기의 회전자를 생산공장에서 금형주조(die casting)로 제작 시 rotor core cast의 품질을 평가하기 위하여 주조해석 전용 프로그램을 사용하여 수치해석을 수행하였으며, 그 결과를 실험결과와 비교하여 다음과 같은 결론을 얻을 수 있었다. 첫째, 유도전동기 회전자의 고압 금형주조 시 고속으로 사출된 알루미늄 용탕의 충진 양상을 시간 경과에 따라 평가한 결과, 용탕은 하부 end ring 부를 먼저 충진하고 수평으로 이동하여 상부 end ring, core slot 부분을 충진하여 최종적으로 core slot 부분에서 충진이 완료된다. 둘째, mould 내부에서의 용탕의 충진 양상을 보면 상부 end ring, core slot 부분보다 하부 end ring 부분에서 용탕의 유동에 의한 와류가 발생하여 결함 발생이 예측되었으며, 현장 실험결과 하부 end ring 부 단면에서 작고 큰 다수의 결함이 발견되었다. 셋째, 금형주조 작업으로 양호한 품질의 회전자를 제작하기 위해서는 cast 형상 변경이나 작업조건 등 추가적인 연구가 필요하며 이에 대해서는 추후에 보고할 예정이다.

  • In the field of automobile industry, lightweight problems are very important in terms of reducing fuel and protecting environment. To satisfy these demands, the attempt to substitute aluminum automobile components for cast steel part has been actively carried out. To fabricate the aluminum automobile suspension part that has the same mechanical properties with cast steel part, design conditions such as shape and dimension of part shall be established. Therefore in this study, shape and dimension conditions of suspension part were proposed. Aluminum automobile suspension part was fabricated by semi-solid die-casting process under the obtained design conditions. Moreover to evaluate the possibility of application to the automobile component, stress and fatigue analysis were performed by using ABAQUS S/W and compared with those of conventional automobile suspension part.
