Alumina Templates on Silicon Wafers with Hexagonally or Tetragonally Ordered Nanopore Arrays via Soft Lithography

  • Due to the potential importance and usefulness, usage of highly ordered nanoporous anodized aluminum oxide can be broadened in industry, when highly ordered anodized aluminum oxide can be placed on a substrate with controlled thickness. Here we report a facile route to highly ordered nanoporous alumina with the thickness of hundreds-of-nanometer on a silicon wafer substrate. Hexagonally or tetragonally ordered nanoporous alumina could be prepared by way of thermal imprinting, dry etching, and anodization. Adoption of reusable polymer soft molds enabled the control of the thickness of the highly ordered porous alumina. It also increased reproducibility of imprinting process and reduced the expense for mold production and pattern generation. As nanoporous alumina templates are mechanically and thermally stable, we expect that the simple and costeffective fabrication through our method would be highly applicable in electronics industry.

  • A ball-shape alumina arc-tube for low-wattage lamp was developed by the PIM process. An ultra high purity translucentgrade alumina powder was used. In injection molding process, a hot-runner type mold was developed. The translucent-grade alumina powder was extremely sensitive to contamination so that the injection molding condition and atmosphere control in the furnace should be taken care of with extreme caution. Contamination sources were pinpointed with EPMA. The arc-tube was molded in half and two halves were bonded in the middle by a new bonding technique at room temperature developed in this study.

Al 첨가에 따른 소성중 쉘 몰드의 뮬라이트화 거동 (Effect of Al addition on Mullitization Behavior of Shell Mold during Sintering)

  • A1 분말의 첨가량을 변화시킨 알루미나 쉘 몰드를 제조하여 소성조건에 따른 알루미나/실리카의 뮬라이트화 거동을 관찰하였다. 알루미나/실리카의 뮬라이트화 반응은 소성온도 및 A1 함량의 증가에 따라 증대함을 알 수 있었으나 쉘 몰드의 상온강도는 감소하였다. 각 소성조건에서 측정된 쉘 강도는 2.0~2.6kg/$\textrm{mm}^2$임을 알 수 있었다. Al의 첨가는 고온에서 쉘 몰드의 변형을 억제시켰다. 특히 2.5wt%%의 Al을 첨가한 후 $1000^{\circ}C$에서 1시간 유지한 시편에서는 변형이 일어나지 않았으며, 또한 Al을 첨가하지 않은 시편을 $1500^{\circ}C$에서 4시간동안 소성한 시편에서도 변형이 일어나지 않음을 알 수 있었다.

Micro Fabrication Process of Powder Compact with Semi-solid Mold

  • New powder compaction process, in which a Bingham semi-solid/fluid mold is utilized, is developed to fabricate micro parts. In the present process, a powder material is filled as slurry in a solid wax mold, dried and compressed. The wax is heated during compaction and becomes semi-solid state, which can acts as a pressurized medium for isostatic compaction. Since the compacted micro parts are very fragile, the mold's temperature is controlled to higher than its melting point during unloading, to avoid breakage of the compacts. To demonstrate effectiveness of this process, some micro compacts of alumina are shown as examples.

Thermally Stabilized Porous Nickel Support of Palladium Based Alloy Membrane for High Temperature Hydrogen Separation

  • Nickel powder was coated with aluminum nitrate solution to increase the thermal stability of a porous nickel support and control the nickel content in the Pd-Cu-Ni ternary alloyed membrane. Raw nickel powder and alumina coated nickel powder were uniaxialy pressed by home made press with metal cylindrical mold. Though the used nickel powder prepared by pulsed wire evaporation (PWE) method has a good thermal stability, the porous nickel support was too much sintered and the pores of porous nickel support was plugged at high temperature (over $800^{\circ}C$) making it not suitable for the porous support of a palladium based composite membrane. In order to overcome this problem, the nickel powder was coated by alumina and alumina modified porous nickel support resists up to $1000^{\circ}C$ without pore destruction. Furthermore, the compositions of Pd-Cu-Ni ternary alloy membrane prepared by magnetron sputtering and Cu-reflow could be controlled by not only Cu-reflow temperature but also alumina coating amount. SEM analysis and mercury porosimeter analysis evidenced that the alumina coated on the surface of nickel powder interrupted nickel sintering.

Tribological Properties of DLC for Die Applications

  • Friction and wear affect all processes involved in the extraction of materials and their conversion into finished products in the die applications such as drawing, extrusion etc. Originating phenomenon from the contact surface between the tool and workpiece, they are usually a hindrance to materials process operations which usually result in damaging the tools, increasing energy consumption, the contamination of processed material by wear particles and also some problems associated with technologies to control friction and wear. The most well established method to control friction and wear is by the application of lubricant such as fluorocarbon. Besides, a surface technique so-called surface modification can be applied to solve the tribology problems of the die applications for both the economical and ecological reasons. In this article, we applied DLC(diamond-like carbon) thin film on alumina ceramic for HT test using the PIID(plasma ion immersion deposition), 4 groups of test specimens were tested up to $200^{\circ}C$ which is a little higher than the normal working temperature of die application. Pin-on-disc tribo-tester was used to test the friction and surfaces were characterized by SEM and EDS and else, the morphology changes of DLC coatings were studied. The present work indicated that the DLC had a great potential to reduce the friction and wear in the alumina die application without lubricants.

진공 원심 주조를 이용한 Ti-48Al-2Cr-2Nb 합금 터보차저 터빈휠 제작 (Manufacturing of Ti-48Al-2Cr-2Nb Alloy Turbocharger Turbine Wheel by Vacuum Centrifugal Casting)

  • 고온 환경에 대한 우수한 특성을 바탕으로 산업 장비의 고온 재료에 Ti-48Al-2Cr-2Nb 합금이 사용된다. 본 연구에서는 Ti-48Al-2Cr-2Nb 합금 터보 차저 터빈 휠을 진공 원심 주조 방법으로 제작했다. 알루미나 몰드를 이용한 원심 주조시 터보 차저 터빈 휠 블레이드의 미스런 불량을 방지하기 위한 조건을 조사하였다. 진공 원심 주조로 제조된 합금의 미세 구조는 광학 현미경 (OM), 마이크로 비커스 경도 분석기 (HV), X- 선 회절 (XRD) 및 SEM-EDS로 연구하였다. 주조된 Ti-48Al-2Cr-2Nb 합금의 경도 및 SEM-EDS 결과는 산화층 (α- 케이스)의 두께가 일반적으로 50㎛ 미만임을 보여주었다. 예열 온도 1,100oC, RPM 260, 게이트 크기가 큰 알루미나 몰드의 경우 미스런 불량이 거의 없었다. 따라서 높은 예열 온도, 중간 RPM, 큰 게이트 크기 및 알파 케이스 형성 억제를 위한 알루미나 몰드를 통해 미스런이 적은 Ti-48Al-2Cr-2Nb 합금 터보 차저 터빈 휠을 얻을 수 있음을 확인했다.

PDP 격벽 성형용 몰드 제작과 성형에 대한 연구 (A Study on Mold Fabrication and Forming for PDP Barrier Ribs)

  • Plasma Display Panel(PDP) is a type of flat panel display utilizing the light emission produced by gas discharge. Barrier Ribs of PDP separating each sub-pixel prevents optical and electrical crosstalks from adjacent sub-pixels. Mold for forming barrier ribs has been newly researched to overcome the disadvantages of conventional manufacturing process such as screen printing, sand-blasting and photosensitive glass methods. Mold for PDP barrier ribs have stripes of micro grooves transferring glass-material wall. In this paper, Stripes of grooves of which width 48${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$ and 270${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$, depth 124${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$, pitch 274${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$ was acquired by machining hard and brittle materials of WC, Silicon, Alumina with dicing saw blade. Maximum roughness of the bottom and sidewall of the grooves was respectively 120nm, 287nm in grooving WC. Maximum tilt angle caused by difference between upper-most width and lower-most width was 2$^{\circ}$. Maximum Radius of bottom curvatures was 7.75${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$. This results satisfies the specification for barrier ribs of 50 inch XGA PDP if the groove form of mold was fully transferred to the barrier ribs. Barrier ribs were formed with Silicone rubber mold, which is transferred from grooved hard materials. Silicone rubber mold has elasticity accommodating the waveness of lower glass plate of PDP.

자기 연마재에 관한 연구 (A Study on Magnetic Abrasive)

  • The magnetic polishing is the useful method to finish some machinery fabrications by using magnetic power. This method is one of the precision techniques and has an aim for clean technology in the transportation of the pure gas in the clean pipes. The magnetic abrasive polishing method is not so common in the field of machine that it is not known to widely. There are rarely researcher in this field because of non-effectiveness of magnetic abrasive. Therefore, in this paper we deals with the development of the magnetic abrasive with the use of Sr-Ferrite. In this development, abrasive grain A has been made by using the resin bond fabricated at low temperature. And magnetic abrasive powder was fabricated from the Sr-Ferrite which was crushed into 200 mesh. The XRD analysis result shows that only A abrasive and Sr-Ferrite crystal peaks were detected, explaining that resin bond was not any more to contribute chemical reaction. From SEM analysis, we found that A abrasive and Sr-Ferrite were strongly bonding with each other.

실리콘 고분자 복합소재의 열전도도와 기계적 물성에 관한 연구 (A Study on the Thermal Conductivity and Mechanical Properties of Electrical Insulation Polymer Composite Materials)

  • With the development of technology in the electrical and electronic field, research on heat dissipation materials that can efficiently emit and control heat to solve the heat generation problem is being actively conducted. Since heat dissipation materials require electrical insulation and thermal conductivity, the polymer composite material was manufactured by mixing chemically stable silicone resins and ceramic fillers, and thermal conductivity and mechanical properties were observed. At the same filling amount, the larger the particle size and the higher the high thermal conductivity filler was added, the higher the thermal conductivity was, mechanical properties were confirmed to have higher tensile strength and elongation as the particles were smaller and the tissue was denser. After selecting materials in consideration of thermal conductivity and mechanical properties, an appropriate mixing ratio is considered important.
