$ZrO_2$첨가에 따른 자기 애자의 기계적 강도 개선 (Improvement of Mechanical Strength of Porcelain Insulator with $ZrO_2$Addition)

  • 장석, 석영, 점토와 17 wt% $Al_2$O$_3$를 함유한 알루미나질 자기 애자를 제조하였다. 분말을 ball milling으로 6시간 분쇄하였으며 성형체를 압출법으로 제조한 후 터널가마에서 130$0^{\circ}C$, 50분 동안 소결하였다. 터널가마에서 소결한 시편의 소결밀도는 이론밀도의 97%에 도달하였고, 3점 꺾임강도는 1658kgf/$ extrm{cm}^2$ 이었으며 ICL(indentation crack length) 방법으로 측정한 파괴인성은 2.3 MPa.m$^{1}$2/이었다. 기계적 성질을 향상시키기 위하여 ZrO$_2$를 첨가하여 15 wt% $Al_2$O$_3$-2 wt% ZrO$_2$와 12 wt% $Al_2$O$_3$-5 wt% ZrO$_2$를 복합체를 제조하였다. ZrO$_2$를 첨가한 시편의 꺾임강도는 1740kgf/$\textrm{cm}^2$이고 파괴인성은 2.4 MPa.m$^{1}$2/로 약 10% 기계적 성질이 향상되었다.

저수축 반응소결 알루미나/지르코니아 복합체의 제조 (The Fabrication of Low Shrinkage, Reaction-Bonded Alumina/Zirconia Composite)

  • The attrition-milled powder mixtures of Al and Al2O3 were oxidized below 140$0^{\circ}C$ for 1 hr and post-sintered at 150$0^{\circ}C$ and 1$600^{\circ}C$ for 2 hr. During attrition milling, ZrO2 was added to the system by grinding effect of ZrO2 balls. The average particle size of the powder mixtures was decreased by the attrition milling as the aluminum content decrease. Above 120$0^{\circ}C$, sintering behaviro was observed on the fine Al2O3 particles resulted from the oxidation of Al. The specimens heat-treated at 140$0^{\circ}C$ for 1 hr showed the bending strength of 166 MPa and hardness of 220 MPa. The specimens post-sintered at 1$600^{\circ}C$ for 2hr had a linear shrinkage of 9~12% and a relative density of about 95%. After the post-sintering, the specimens having 55 vol% Al content revealed the bending strength of 513 MPa and hardness of 718 MPa. The Weibull modulus to the bending strength was about 16.

철근 캐스터블 내화물의 고온특성에 관한 연구 (A Stydy on Steel Wire Fiber Reinforced Refractory Castable)

  • This study deals with the wire content, wire diameter, aspect ratio , it's arrangement of steel, wire fiber and the sorts of castable which affected the character of steel wire fiber reinformced refractory castable. Two kinds of alumina based refractory castables, one is for 1650℃ and the other is for 1800℃, and stainless steel which is SUS 304 type 0.25, 0.34 , 0.37 and 0.50m/min diameter were used respectively. Aspect ratio was adjusted to 50, 75, 100 and steel fiber content was also adjusted to 1-4wt% each. The results of the experiment were as follows : 1. At firing temperature around 1,000℃, MOR is increased with increasing wire content and aspect ratio with decreasing firing temperature, which depends on the Romualdi's Fiber Spacing Theory. But for calculation of the fiber spacing, Swamy equation is more a aplicable to the extensive fiber mixing conditions. However, the condition differs from the above at firing temperature around 1,350℃ ,because of the degradation of wire and the progress of sintering of castable. 2. Linear change is getting larger corresponding to the increase of wire content, and the spaling resistivity is increasing corresponding to the increase of wire content and to aspect ratio, and with decreasing wire diameter. 3. Firing shrinkage under load is getting greater as higher wire content, and the shrinkage of the test pieces which fiber is vertically oriented is getting greater than the test pieces which fiber is randomly oriented.

알루미나 튜브의 인장/비틀림 조합하중하의 파괴거동 (Fracture Behaviors of Alumina Tubes under Combined Tension/Torsion)

  • Fracture of Al2O3 tubes for different loading path under combined tension/torsion was investigated. Macroscopic directions of crack propagation agreed well with the maximum principal stress criterion, independent of the loading path. However, fracture strength from the proportional loading test($\tau$/$\sigma$= constant) showed either strengthening or weakening compared to that from uniaxial tension, depending on the ratio $\tau$/$\sigma$. The Weibull theory was capable to predict the strengthening of fracture strength in pure torsion, but not the weakening in the proportional loading condition. The strengthening or weakening of fracture strength in the proportional loading condition was explained by the effect of shear stresses in the plane of randomly oriented microdefects. Finally, a new empirical fracture criterion was proposed. This criterion is based on a mixed mode fracture criterion and experimental data for fracture of Al2O3 tubes under combined tension/torsion. The proposed fracture criterion agreed well with experimental data for both macroscopic directions of crack propagation and fracture strengths.

현탁액과 전해질의 농도가 제타전위에 미치는 영향 (Effect of the Concentration of Suspension and Electrolyte on Zeta Potential)

  • 알루미나 분말과 전해질의 농도가 제타전위 및 등전점에 미치는 영향에 대하여 고찰하였다. 0.1~l $\mu\textrm{m}$의 입도 범위를 지닌 알루미나 분말시료와 NH$_4$NO$_3$를 사용하여 실험을 수행하였으며, 전기영동법을 이용하여 제타전위를 측정하였다. 현탁액 내의 시료량이 증가할수록 제타전위와 등전점은 큰 값을 나타내었으며, 현탁액의 농도가 0.0l wt%일 때 제타전위 측정에 가장 적합한 것으로 나타났다. 또한 전해질 농도가 증가할 경우, 제타전위의 값은 다소 증가하는 경향을 보였으나 큰 변화는 없었고, 등전점 값은 오히려 조금 감소하였다. 제타전위 측정에 가장 적합한 전해질 농도는 10 mM인 것으로 나타났으며, 전해질의 종류에 따라서 제타전위와 등전점의 값이 조금 변하는 경향이 있으나 큰 차이를 발생시키지는 않는 것으로 확인되었다.

Development of Methane Gas Sensor by Various Powder Preparation Methods

  • After $SnO_2$ fine powder by precipitation method, Ca as crystallization inhibitor and Pd as catalyst were added to $SnO_2$ raw material by various methods. Thick film device was fabricated on the alumina substrate by mixing ethylene glycol and such mixed powders. The sensing characteristics of the device for methane gas were investigated. The most excellent gas sensing property was shown by the thick film device fabricated by Method 3 in which Ca and Pd doped $SnO_2$ powder is prepared by mixing $SnO_2$ powder, 0.1 wt% Ca acetate and 1 wt% $PdCl_2$ in deionized water and by calcining the mixture, after $Sn(OH)_4$ is dried at $110^{\circ}C$ for 36h. The sensitivity of the sensor fabricated with $SnO_2$-0.1 wt%Ca acetate-1wt%$PdCl_2$ powder heat-treated at $700^{\circ}C$ for 1h was about 86% for 5,000 ppm methane in air at $350^{\circ}C$ of the operating temperature. Response time and recovery were also excellent.

High Temperature Tribological Behaviour of Particulate Composites in the System SiC-TiC-TiB2 during Dry Oscillating Sliding

  • The tribological behaviour of monolithic SiC as well as SiC-TiC and SiC-TiC-$TiB_2$ particulate composite materials has been investigated in unlubricated oscillating sliding tests against $Al_2O_3$ at temperature in the range from room temperature up to $600^{\circ}C$. At temperatures below $600^{\circ}C$ the wear rate of the systems with the composite materials was up to 20 times lower than the wear of the $Al_2O_3$/SiC system and was dominated by the oxidation of the titanium phases. At $600^{\circ}C$ the oxidation rate of the TiC and -TEX>$TiB_2$ grains becomes predominant resulting in an enhanced wear rate of the composite rate of the TiC and TiB2 grains becomes predominant resulting in an enhanced wear rate of the composite materials. The coefficient of friction shows similar values for all materials of investigation, increasing from 0.25…0.3 at room temperature to 0.7…0.8 $600^{\circ}C$. The wear of the $Al_2O_3$/SiC system is mainly abrasive at temperatures above room temperature and is characterised by an enhanced wear of the alumina ball at $600^{\circ}C$.

Effect of Sintering Temperature on the Grain Size and Mechanical Properties of Al2O3-SiC Nanocomposites

  • In this research, some mechanical properties of Al2O3-based composites containing nanoSiC and nanoMgO additives, including elasticity modulus, hardness, and fracture toughness, have been evaluated. Micron-sized Al2O3 powders containing 0.08 wt.% nanoMgO particles have been mixed with different volume fractions of nanoSiC particles (2.5 to 15 vol.%). Untreated samples have been sintered by using hot-press technique at temperatures of 1600 to 1750℃. The results show significant increases in the mechanical characteristics with increases in the sintering temperature and amount of nanoSiC particles, with the result that the elasticity modulus, hardness, and fracture toughness were obtained as 426 GPa, 21 GPa, and 4.5 MPa.m1/2, respectively.

Fracture Toughness of 3Y-TZP Dental Ceramics by Using Vickers Indentation Fracture and SELNB Methods

  • The objective of this research is to analyze the fracture toughness of pure and silica co-doped yttria-stabilized tetragonal zirconia polycrystal (3Y-TZP) bioceramics containing 0.1 and 0.2 wt.% of alumina, and sintered at a temperature of $1500^{\circ}C$. Because of the relatively easy preparation of the test specimens and the high speed of testing, the Vickers indentation fracture (VIF) technique is more frequently used to evaluate the fracture toughness of biomaterials and hard biological tissues. The Young's modulus and hardness values were obtained by means of nanoindentation and indentation methods. The fracture toughness values of 3Y-TZP bioceramics were calculated and analyzed using 15 equations related to the VIF technique, and loadings of 49.03 and 196.13 N with a Vickers diamond. For validation, the results were compared with fracture toughness values obtained by the single-edge laser-notch beam (SELNB) method with an almost atomically sharp laser-machined initial notch.

슬래그 재활용 원료를 이용한 유리섬유 제조 및 특성 (Properties and Fabrication of Glass Fiber using Recycled Slag Materials)

  • In this study, glass fibers are fabricated via a continuous spinning process using manganese slag, steel slag, and silica stone. To fabricate the glass fibers, raw materials are put into an alumina crucible, melted at $1550^{\circ}C$ for 2 hrs, and then annealed at $600^{\circ}C$ for 2 hrs. We obtain a black colored glass. We identify the non-crystalline nature of the glass using an XRD(x-ray diffractometer) graph. An adaptable temperature for spinning of the bulk marble glass is characterized using a high temperature viscometer. Spinning is carried out using direct melting spinning equipment as a function of the fiberizing temperature in the range of $1109^{\circ}C$ to $1166^{\circ}C$, while the winder speed is in the range of 100rpm to 250rpm. We investigate the various properties of glass fibers. The average diameters of the glass fibers are measured by optical microscope and FE-SEM. The average diameter of the glass fibers is $73{\mu}m$ at 100rpm, $65{\mu}m$ at 150rpm, $55{\mu}m$ at 200rpm, and $45{\mu}m$ at 250rpm. The mechanical properties of the fibers are confirmed using a UTM(Universal materials testing machine). The average tensile strength of the glass fibers is 21MPa at 100rpm, 31MPa at 150rpm, 34MPa at 200rpm, and 45MPa at 250rpm.
