Poorly-posed problems in the balanced discriminant analysis was considered. We restrict consideration to the case of observations and the number of variables are the same and small. When these problems exist, we do not use a maximum likelihood estimates(MLE) to estimate covariance matrices. Instead of MLE, an alternative estimate for the covariance matrices are proposed. This alternative method make good use of two regularization parameters, $\lambda$} and $\gamma$. A new test rule for the discriminant function is suggested and examined via limited hut informative simulation study. From the simulation study, it is shown that the suggested test rule gives better test result than other previously suggested method in terms of error rate criterion.

Robust design is an approach to reducing performance variation of quality characteristic values in quality engineering. Taguchi has an idea that mean and variation are handled simultaneously to reduce the expected loss in products and processes. Taguchi parameter design has a great deal of advantages but it also has some disadvantages. The various research efforts aimed at developing alternative methods. In the Taguchi parameter design, the product-array approach using orthogonal arrays is mainly used. However, it often requires an excessive number of experiments. An alternative approach, which is called the combined-array approach, was suggested by Welch et. al. ( 1990) and studied by others. In these studies, only single quality characteristic was considered. In this paper we propose how to simultaneously optimize multiple quality characteristics using desirability function when we used the combined-array approach to assign control and noise factors. An example is illustrated to show the difference between the Taguchi's product-array approach and the combined-array approach.

As an attempt to systematize the environmental education in schools according to the 7th curriculum, this study extracted the contents of environmental education to which Social Studies Education can approach in the social studies lessons. This study analyzed these contents from the goals of environmental education and from its contents and, as a result, it found out the following: (1) in the aspect of ‘knowledge’ and ‘skills’, Social Studies and the goals of environmental education have direct relations with each other, and (2) Social Studies can be taught in the aspect of ‘environmental pollution’, ‘environmental preservation ＆ alternative’ ,‘human environment’, ‘population’, ‘inderstrialization & urbanization, ‘resources’, and so on. By utilizing various teaching and learning methods of Socal studies education, We can approach the goals of environmental education: ‘attitudes’ and ‘participation’. We think that ‘problem solving ability’ is main teaching method” in Socal Studies.

Bio-diesel oil is a great possibility to solve the pollution problem caused by the exhaust gas from diesel engine vehicles. Recently the use of bio-oils in disel engines has received considerable attention to the forseeable depletion of world oil supplies. So, Bio-diesel oil has been attracted with attentions as an alternative and clean energy source. The objective of this paper is to experimentally investigate the characteristic of performance using light oil, rice-bran oil, heated rice-bran oil, rice-bran oil treated with ultrasonic energy. We included rice-bran oil and applied ultrasonic energy to highly viscous bio-oils. These methods seems to have never been tried yet. The final data may be able to be applicated for the design of the diesel engine using an alternative fuel.

The purpose of this study is the investigation of the physically handicapped childrens' residentical life, using furniture and opinion of auxiliary furniture ot find out alternative forms of desirable furniture. This study consists of two parts: a survey of residential life and furniture usage and a new chair design based on the survey. Documentary research, observational investigation and questionaire survey methods were used. According to the survey, a chair was chosen as the most needed piece of furniture. The alternative chair was designed to accomodate to the individual physical needs of each child. The structural charasteristics of the chair form consist of four parts: 1) basic seat 2) supporting metal frame 3) detachable chair legs 4) detachable table top. Auxilliary options include adjustable parts such as a head rest, seat belt, arm rest and pedestal.

This experiment was conducted to investigate the effects of turf grass growth to seedling rates and bed soil types. The results of this experiment were summarized as follows; the more increasing the seedling rates, the plant height and leaf length were longer, but the number of leaf and number of branch were fewer. In case of transplanting of turf grass seedling by rice transplanting machine, it might be considered that the proper alternative bed soil was sandy loam soil with regarding to the economic aspects. The maximum seedling rate of turf grass in the seedling tray for rice was 1,000 of seedling amount due to the nutrient competition with intensive seedling. As the results indicated, it might be recommended that the proper alternative bed soil was sandy loam soil with 1,000 of seedling rates in case of transplanting of turf grass seedling by rice transplanting machine.

Women’s employment rate is decreasing and unemployment rate is increasing since we crime to financial crisis in Korea. So, many women are interested in the running their own business. But people have not recognized the business as a field of women and women have not been accustomed to nil the business. This study aims to introduce the family business as an alternative of women’s employment. This study examines the prospect about family business in Korea through the literature. For this purpose, definition and present state about family business in Korea, motive and background which women start or succeed the family business, advantages and disadvantages which women have when they run the family business, and methods for supporting woman entrepreneur are suggested. finally, some suggestions in educational field for enlarging the women’s roles and relative importance in family business are presented.

This paper concerns graphical methods for discriminant analysis. We discuss Sammon's graph, MV graph and possibility of an alternative. The properties of the three graphs are investigated using real data and simulation studies. Dimensionality reduction for an alternative and robust procedure are discussed.

N-terminal kinase-like (NTKL) protein was initially identified as a protein binding to protein kinase B (PKB, also known as Akt). Though NTKL-BP1 (NTKL-binding protein 1) has been identified as an NTKL binding protein, its functions related to binding have not yet been elucidated. Here, a new alternative spliced variant of NTKL and its association with integrin ${\beta}1$ is described, in addition to the kinase activity of NTKL and its substrate candidates. Although the phosphorylation of the candidates must be further confirmed using other experimental methods, the observation that NTKL can phosphorylate ROCK1, DYRK3, and MST1 indicates that NTKL may act as a signaling protein to regulate actin assembly, cell migration, cell growth, and to facilitate differentiation and development in an integrin-associated manner.

Colon interposition is commonly used for esophageal reconstruction in patients with a previous gastrectomy. However, when colon interposition fails and alternative reconstruction is required, there are few options for reconstructing the long segment from the esophagus to the stomach. Here, we report on cases of esophagogastric reconstruction with limited alternative options after the failure of transverse and left colon interposition. In these cases, reconstruction was performed using two different microvascular methods: double-pedicle jejunal free flap and supercharged ileocolic interposition graft.
