  • Fuel cell systems offer high efficiencies for energy conservation for transportation application. In addition, they can operate on alcohols and alternative fuels, while producing little or no noxious emissions. The goal of the fuel cell in transportation should be research and commercialization of fuel cell vehicles as economic competitors for internal combustion engine vehicle. The objective of the present study is to analyze feasibility of the fuel cell/battery combination as a power source for a bus.

  • Bio-diesel oil is a great possibility to solve the pollution problem caused by the exhaust gas from diesel engine vehicles. Recently the use of bio-oils in disel engines has received considerable attention to the forseeable depletion of world oil supplies. So, Bio-diesel oil has been attracted with attentions as an alternative and clean energy source. The objective of this paper is to experimentally investigate the characteristic of performance using light oil, rice-bran oil, heated rice-bran oil, rice-bran oil treated with ultrasonic energy. We included rice-bran oil and applied ultrasonic energy to highly viscous bio-oils. These methods seems to have never been tried yet. The final data may be able to be applicated for the design of the diesel engine using an alternative fuel.

  • Dimethyl ether (DME) can be used as a clean diesel alternative fuel due to the high cetane number and low emission, it can also be applied to automotive fuel as a blended liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) because physical properties are similar to those of LPG. In this study, feasibility test of LPG vehicle using blended DME-LPG fuel was investigated. Three types of fuel supply such as LPLi (Liquid phase LPG injection), LPGi (Liquid phase gas injection) and mixer type were selected to consider the LPG fuel-injection system. The performance characteristics of LPG vehicle were examined by using LPG and blended DME-LPG fuel in order to compare the exhaust emissions (CO, THC, $NO_X$) and fuel economy. The emissions and fuel economy of DME-LPG blend fuel were comparable to those of LPG with increasing driving distance.

  • Wind power, Solar power and Fuel cell is the representative of new and renewal energy sources. In this paper, the frictional noise made by vehicles tire on roads is considered and researched as alternative electrical generation source. The amplitude and waveform of generated electricity with various types of vehicles according to their velocity, weight and distances between vehicles and sensor are measured and analyzed. As a result, all difference effects mentioned above which make the frictional noise affect quality and quantity of generated electricity. Maximum 0.53[V] and 0.028[W] electricity was generated by truck with 100[km/h] velocity on the express way.

  • Recently, hydrogen has gained considerable attention as an eco-friendly fuel, which helps in reducing carbon dioxide content. Specifically, there is a growing interest in vehicles powered by a hydrogen fuel cell, which is spotlighted as an environmental-friendly alternative. A hydrogen transport system, fuel cell system, fuel supply system, power management system, and hydrogen storage system are key parts of a hydrogen fuel cell truck. In this study, a hydrogen storage system is built and analyzed. The expansion length of the storage vessel at maximum operating pressure (87.5 MPa) was calculated with ABAQUS, and then the optimized system was designed and built. The leak and bubble tests were performed on the built storage system. The leakage of the system was measured to be under 5 cc/hr. Hence, it can be used as a research test for the safety evaluation of leading systems of hydrogen fuel-powered commercial vehicles.

  • Recently, as the matters of environmental pollution, the energy exhaustion and alternative energy source have become more important issues, around industrial countries and the effort to improve fuel consumption is progressed continuously for decrease of air pollution. In an effort to improve fuel consumption for passenger cars, the study of DLC (Diamond Like Carbon) coating which is widely known to good wear characteristics come to the forefront. Therefore, in present study, it was investigated to the influence of DLC coating layer for wear characteristics with the piston ring material and then suggested to the development process for advanced automotive engine parts that showed improved wear characteristics. From these results, Finally, it will be contributed to improve the fuel consumption for passenger vehicles.

  • It seems very difficult to comply with upcoming stringent emission standards in vehicles. To develop low emission engines, better quality of automotive fuels must be achieved. Since sulfur contents in diesel fuels are transformed to sulfate-laden particulate matters as a catalyst is applied, it is necessary to provide low sulfur fuels before any Pt-based oxidation catalysts are applied. In general, flash point, distillation $90\%$ and cetane index are improved but viscosity can be worse in the process of desulfurization of diesel fuel. Excessive reduction of sulfur may cause to degrade viscosity of fuels and engine performance in fuel injection systems. This research focused on the performance of an 11,000 cc diesel engine and emission characteristics by the introduction of ULSD, bio-diesel and a diesel oxidation catalyst, where the bio-diesel was used to improve viscosity of fuels in fuel injection systems as fuel additives or alternative fuels.

  • It is valuable research area regarding to developing manufacturing process of biogas from organic wastes take a side view of alternative for fossil energy and to improve the environmental atmosphere leads to decrease the greenhouse gas be discharged. The regulation which is prepared by environmental department shows that biogas as a transportation fuel is required to purity of above 95%, while it of natural gas is above 88%. However, in this situation it is necessary to prepare the regulation which is distributed by department of transportation as for the fuel be connected to vehicles as well in order to take step forward, and it is suggest to develop the technics of biogas this country's own original one, not be the technics imported from foreign countries, and also to turn to higher practical use of biogas for transportation area, since it shows far much less ratio have compared to other application areas.

  • A fuel cell electric vehicle (FCEV) could be an alternative solution to gasoline powered vehicles. The Korean and Japanese governments have played the midwifery role in the development of the FCEV industry. This study explores the difference in policy goals for FCEV between the two countries. Koreans recognized that FCEV was innovative technology and put forward the notion of technology pre-occupancy. Whereas, the Japanese government discovered that FCEV was one way to apply hydrogen mechanisms, so they identified the supply of hydrogen as one of the industries of interest, and have played the demiurge role. This study suggests that the role of government is to introduce eco-friendly vehicles, using the cases of Korean and Japanese governments, who introduced FCEV to the world first.
