The demand of elderly care facilities due to aging population has been increased and the trend of developed countries implies the necessity of innovate approach for elderly care in Korea. The purpose of this research is to evaluate the flexible elderly housing alternative which has been introduced showing adaptability and small scale. This elderly housing alternative was designed to fulfill the condition of residential facilities for various aging phases from the independent elderly to dependent elderly. The workshop method was used for pre-evaluation of the flexible elderly housing alternative from the viewpoint of administrators, care givers and the elderly. The pre-evaluation is to estimate the facility before finalizing the design so that it facilitates more effective and suitable plan by reducing the trial and error beforehand, unlike the post-evaluation. Major responses of plans were positive and the needs for improvement about some concerns were revealed. Thus, relevant aspects of architectural drawings were amended according to workshop participants' needs and features that require to be reflected during further planning procedures were also improved. The result of this research will develop the flexible elderly housing alternative and contribute to foster environment for the elderly as well.

Cost-benefit analysis was conducted to propose the best alternatives for integrated watershed management. Benefits of all alternatives were estimated combining results of choice experiment method with alternative evaluation index (AEI). Choice experiment which is a kind of stated preference techniques was applied to six regions since the Anyangcheon watershed was divided into six according to spatial characteristics and conditions (potential hazard and location). Alternative of NB > 0 must be considerable since they are economically and technically feasible.

Pesticides have provided significant benefits including plant disease control and increased crop yields since people developed and utilized them. However, pesticide use is associated with many adverse effects, which necessitate precise toxicological tests and risk assessment. Most of these methods are based on animal studies, but considerations of animal welfare and ethics require the development of alternative methods for the evaluation of pesticide toxicity. Although the usage of laboratory animals is inevitable in scientific evaluation and alternative approaches have limitations in the whole coverage, continuous effort is necessary to minimize animal use and to develop reliable alternative tests for pesticide evaluation. This review discusses alternative approaches for pesticide toxicity tests and hazard evaluation that have been used in peer-reviewed reports and could be applied in future studies based on the critical animal research principles of reduction, replacement, and refinement.

This study presents the alternative evaluation technique for the high-rise building structural system. The alternative evaluation of the structural system is performed in three steps, that is, preliminary evaluation, main evaluation and detailed evaluation. The evaluation categories are composed of structural performance, economic feasibility and term of work. Each categories are composed of detailed items to evaluate of its own. In preliminary evaluation, qualitative evaluation based on experimental knowledge is performed. In main and detailed evaluations, quantitative evaluations based on numeric data are performed. The weighted-sum method is applied to integrate the evaluated results of each items and its importance. The applicability of the proposed method was verified by applying it to the practical buildings and simulate the procedures.

The goal of this article is to ascertain the factors that govern consumers' choosing to outbound travel product. The authors assess the consumers' travel product choosing processes with information search(internal knowledge, external information knowledge). alternative evaluation(perceived image, emotional experience, price acceptability, appeal, trust), and alternative choice(purchasing intention). Using data on Thailand travel product, the authors find considerable results and conclude by discussing prescriptive recommendations for the travel industry.

It is said that traditional formative evaluation method does not fit in web based learning system because of inefficiency and improper data collecting techniques. This study is to demonstrate alternative formative evaluation method fit in web based learning system. In alternative evaluation, Participant, data collecting techniques and data are different from each web based program development process. As a conclusion, this alternative evaluation method may promote effectiveness and quality of web based program.

The alternative evaluation index (AEI) is developed and applied to determine the priorities of some options for integrated watershed management. Based on the results of continuous simulation model, AEIs of some feasible alternatives are calculated using multicriteria decision making techniques and sustainability evaluation model, DPSIR (Drivers-Pressure-State-Impact-Response).

The report of the Korean Board of Audit and Inspection(BAI) on May 2007 indicates the problems of Life Cycle Cost (LCC) analysis and evaluation in the Design-Build(Turn-Key) and alternative bidding system. The point which the report indicates is that the cost estimation system for LCC analysis has nothing in common each other and there's no consistency among the repair cycle and ratio per facilities parts. For solving these problems, BAI demands the establishment of the guidelines for LCC analysis and evaluation from the competent authority Korean Ministry of Construction And Transportation(MOCT). The objective of this study is to develop the improvement directions for LCC analysis and evaluation which are suitable to the public construction projects especially for the Design-Build and alternative bidding system in Korea. For this study, the LCC related raws and regulations, LCC analysis guidelines of public cooperations, actual condition of LCC analysis and evaluation which include, the elements of LCC, the estimation rules of the initial cost and the maintenance cost, the analysis standards of time value of money, etc. are investigated to provide the improvement directions for LCC analysis and evaluation.

This study focuses on design of supplementary evaluation indicator system geared towards comprehensive rearrangement projects in seats of township and town offices. In the first phase, it tries to reveal major problems and issues related to evaluation of the existing small town promotion projects. In terms of analytical tools, this study depends on the Delphi and AHP techniques. In specific, after three rounds of the Delphi methods, it extracts a series of alternative evaluation indicators derived from the AHP methods. It covers 5 major evaluation criteria, under which 18 independent items are hierarchically interconnected. It expects that these alternative evaluation indicators would contribute to selecting appropriate small town promotion projects. Next, applying these evaluation indicators, we examine couples of comprehensive rearrangement projects in seats of township and town offices. From the comparative contexts, we believe that the proposed alternative evaluation criteria would improve the general satisfaction level of key stakeholders in deciding the priority order of the small town promotion projects.

For any particular development project or environmental regulations, decision-making criteria is required and conflicts among criteria should be resolved. It is necessary to investigate criteria that government agencies employ in making decisions that influence the environment. The evaluation of alternative development proposals and regulatory measures involves much more than environmental issues. Economic, technical, and social factors should be considered along with environmental impacts when making evaluations. Evaluation should be based on values of all individuals who may be affected by public or private decisions. There are many evaluation methods for determining how individuals and groups value alternative public actions. Numerous weighting-scaling methodologies can be used in such evaluations. These methodologies represent adaptations of multiple-criteria or multiple-attribute decision-making techniques. Environmental risk assessment which accounts for uncertainties in choosing among alternative policies and projects is increasingly used.
