팔라듐 합금 수소분리막의 내구성 향상 (Improvement in Long-term Stability of Pd Alloy Hydrogen Separation Membranes)

  • Pd alloy hydrogen membranes for hydrogen purification and separation need thermal stability at high temperature for commercial applications. Intermetallic diffusion between the Pd alloy film and the porous metal support gives rise to serious problems in long-term stability of Pd alloy membranes. Ceramic barriers are widely used to prevent the intermetallic diffusion from the porous metal support. However, these layers result in poor adhesion at the interface between film and barrier because of the fundamentally poor chemical affinity and a large thermal stress. In this study, we developed Pd alloy membranes having a dense microstructure and saturated composition on modified metal supports by advanced DC magnetron sputtering and heat treatment for enhanced thermal stability. Experimental results showed that Pd-Cu and Pd-Ag alloy membranes had considerably enhanced long-term stability owing to stable, dense alloy film microstructure and saturated composition, effective diffusion barrier, and good adhesive interface layer.

전자선 용해법에 의한 sponge Ti 및 Ti-6Al-4V 합금의 정련 및 용해에 관한 연구 (Study on refining and melting of sponge Ti and Ti-6Al-4V alloy by electron beam melting)

  • 적은 양의 침입형 불순물을 함유한 고순도 재료를 제조하기 위해 70 ㎾ 걸자 빔용해기를 제작하였으며 이를 이용해서 sponge Ti와 Ti-6Al-4V 합금을 용융시켰다. 전자 빔 용해법을 이용해 정련된 sponge Ti에 대한 실험 결과를 바탕으로 초기 용해 180초 동안에는 Ti의 순도가 증가하였지만 그 이후로는 크게 변화지 않는 것을 알 수 있었다. 그리고 Ti의 정련 결과, 침입형 불순물과 금속 불순물의 양을 포함한 전체 불순물의 양이 900 ppm인 고순도(99.9 wt%)의 Ti를 얻었다. Ti-6Al-4V 합금의 전자 빔 용해에 대한 실험 결과로부터 손실되는 Al의 양은 열역학적 데이터, regular solution model 그리고 model of solute removal kinetics를 통해서 판단할 수 있음을 알 수 있었으며, 이 모델들로부터 계산된 합금 조성과 실험을 통해서 구한 합금 조성이 일치하였다. 그리고 Ti-6Al-4V 합금의 조성은 매우 균일하였으며 이것은 EPMA line scanning을 통해서 확인하였다.

Ar/He 보호가스분위기에서 Al 5083 합금의 대전류 MIG 용접특성 (High Current MIG Welding of Al 5083 Alloy under Ar/He Mixed Gas Shielding)

  • Recently, use of thick Al 5083 plate has increased in production of LNG storage tank. In general, multi-pass welding has been used to achieve sufficient penetration in thick plate welding. High current welding which enables high deposition and deep penetration is preferred in thick plate welding because the increase of number of pass increases manufacturing cost and formation of weld defect. In this study, welding characteristics according to various Ar/He shielding gas composition was investigated in high current MIG welding. The bead-on-plate welding and V groove welding were conducted on Al 5083 alloy with a thickness of .25 mm. The effect of shielding gas composition on bead shape was evaluated and proper shielding gas composition was proposed. Also arc stability was examined under selected shielding gas composition. One side-one pass welding experiments were conducted for V groove specimen with a thickness of 25 mm. Mechanical properties and hardness profiles were measured for the V groove specimens.

고강도 Al-Zn-Mg-Cu 합금에서 조성에 따른 응력부식균열 특성 (Stress Corrosion Cracking of High Strength Al-Zn-Mg-Cu Aluminum Alloy with Different Compositions)

  • High strength 7xxx series Al-Zn-Mg alloy have been investigated for using light weight automotive parts especially for bump back beam. The composition of commercial 7xxx aluminum has the Zn/Mg ratio about 3 and Cu over 2 wt%, but this composition isn't adequate for appling to automotive bump back beam due to its high resistance to extrusion and bad weldability. In this study the Zn/Mg ratio was increased for better extrusion and Cu content was reduced for better welding. With this new composition we investigated the effect of composition on the resistivity against stress corrosion cracking. As the Zn/Mg ratio is increased fracture energy obtained by slow strain rate test was decreased, which means degradation of SCC resistance. While the fracture energy was increased with Cu contents although it is below 1%, which means improvement of SCC resistance. These effects of composition change on the SCC resistivity were identified by observing the fracture surface and crack propagation.

  • Titanium and titanium alloy are excellent in corrosion resistance and specific intensity, and also in the biocompatibility. On the other hand, the brazing is bonding method of which productivity and reliability are high, when the complicated and precise structure of the thin plate is constructed. However, though conventional titanium-based brazing filler metal was excellent in bond strength and corrosion resistance, it was disadvantageous that metal structure and mechanical property of the base metal deteriorated, since the brazing temperature (about 1000 C) is considerably high. Authors developed new brazing filler metal which added Zr to Ti-Cu (-Ni) alloy which can be brazed at 900 C or less about 15 years ago. In this paper, the development of more low-melting-point brazing filler metal was tried by the addition of the fourth elements such as Ni, Co, Cr for the Ti-Zr-Cu alloy. As a method for finding the low-melting-point composition, eutectic composition exploration method was used in order to reduce the experiment point. As the result, several kinds of new brazing filler metal such as 37.5Ti-37.5-Zr-25Cu alloy (melting point 825 C) and 30Ti-43Zr-25Cu-2Cr alloy (melting point: 825 C) was developed. Then, the brazing joint showed the characteristics which were almost equal to the base metal from the result of obtaining metallic structure and strength of joint of brazing joint. However, the brazing filler metal composition of the melting point of 820 C or less could not be found. Consequentially, it was clarified that the brazing filler metal developed in this study could be practically sufficiently used from results such as metal structure of brazing joint and tensile test of the joint.

A Brief Review of κ-Carbide in Fe-Mn-Al-C Model Alloys

  • The multiple length scale analysis of previously designed Fe-Mn-Al-C based low-density model alloys reveals the difference in ordered ${\kappa}-carbide$, $(Fe,Mn)_3AlC_x$, between Fe-25Mn-16Al-5.2C (at%) alloy and Fe-3Mn-10Al-1.2C (at%) alloy. For the former alloy composition consisting of fully austenite grains, ${\kappa}-carbide$ showed majorly cuboidal and minorly pancake morphology and its chemical composition was not changed through aging for 24 h and 168 h at $600^{\circ}C$. Meanwhile, for the isothermally annealed ferritic alloy system for 1 hr at 500 and $600^{\circ}C$, the dramatic change in the chemical composition of needle-shape ${\kappa}-carbide$, $(Fe,Mn)_3(Fe,Al)C_x$, was found. Here we address that the compositional fluctuations in the vicinity of the carbides are significantly controlled by abutting phase, either austenite or ferrite. Namely, the cooperative ordering of carbon and Al is an important factor contributing to carbide formation in the high-Mn and high-Al alloyed austenitic steel, while the carbon and Mn for the low-Mn and high Al alloyed ferritic steel.

Ni-Fe합금도금층의 조선 및 우선배향에 미치는 전해조건의 영향 (The effect of electrolysis conditions on the composition and preferred orientation of Ni-Fe alloy electrodeposits)

  • The effects of electrolysis conditions on the composition and preferred orientation of Ni-Fe alloy were studied using the sulfate-chloride baths paddle agitated. Cathode current efficiency is higher in the deposits from bath 2 than that of deposits from bath 1. The Fe content of alloy deposits from bath 2 is nearly constant(19∼21wt.%) in the wide range of current density, while it decreases noticeably with current density in the deposits from bath 1. The variation of Fe content at the edge of specimen is lower in deposits from bath 2 than those from bath 1. The alloy deposits show (111) & (200) preferred orientation for the deposits from bath 1 and bath 2 respectively.

  • The effect of electrolysis conditions on the composition, the magnetic properties and the preferred orientation of Ni-Fe-Co alloy deposits was investigated using the sulfate-chloride bath paddle agitated. Cathode current efficiency increases with the current density, showing the different tendency of the variation from that of the Ni-Fe electrodeposits. The Co content of the deposits decreases with increasing current density, while the content of Ni and Fe is shown to be minimum or maximum at 3A/$dm^2$ respectively. The Ni/Fe ratio of the alloy deposits is lower than that of Ni-Fe deposits. The coercive force($H_c$) of the deposits increases with the Co content in deposit, showing the relatively low value in the range of 1.8~5.0Wt.% Co. The anisotropy field ($H_k$) of the deposits is higher than that of Ni-Fe alloy deposits, The preferred orientation of the deposits is generally (200), but the orientation factor(R) changes with both the increase of current density and the magnetic field applied during deposition.

니켈-인 도금 층의 기계적 성질에 미치는 아인산 농도의 영향 (Effect of Phosphorous Acid Concentration on Mechanical Properties of Ni-P Electrodeposits)

  • The nickel alloys gets a great deal of attention due to their good mechanical, chemical and magnetic properties. Especially Ni-P alloy systems are very attractive due to their good corrosion resistance and the wear resistance in important technological applications. In this study, the effects of phosphorus acid concentration in plating solution on composition of Ni-P alloy coatings were studied. The Ni-P electrodeposits of the various P contents were investigated in order to understand effect of the composition on mechanical properties of Ni-P electrodeposits. The mechanical properties of electrodeposits increased as the P content in electrodeposits increase. The results of mechanical properties were explained by grain size and P solid solution effect. The effects of heat treatment on mechanical properties of Ni-P alloy coatings were also studied.
