  • Metal forming ins the process changing shapes and mechanical properties of the workpiece without initial material reduction through plastic deformation. Above all, because of hot working carried out above recrystallization temperature can be generated large deformation with one blow, it can produce with forging complicated parts or heat resisting super alloy such as Inconel 718 has the worst forgeability. In this paper, we established optimal variation of hot heading precess of the Inconel 718 used in heat resisting component and evaluated mechanical properties hot worked produce. Die material is SKD61 and initial temperature is $300^{\circ}C$. Initial billet temperature and punch velocity changed, relatively. Friction coefficient is 0.3 as lubricated condition of hot working. CAE is carried out suing DEFORM software before making the tryout part, and it is manufactured 150 ton screw press with optimal condition. It is known that forming load was decreased according to decreasing punch velocity.

  • Low temperature ${\delta}$-precipitation phenomenon below 2-step aging ($718^{\circ}C$, $8hr+621^{\circ}C$, 8 hr) temperature of cold drawn Inconel 718 alloy wire was investigated. The investigation was carried out on wires with a cold drawn ratio of 0, 20, 50 and 70% using OM, SEM, XRD, TEM, and DSC. In microstructures of 50 and 70% drawn wire, many precipitates were found along the grain boundaries and the twin boundaries in deformation band. From the results of the XRD and TEM analysis, the precipitates were identified as plate-like ${\delta}$-phase. From the results of the DSC analysis, it was also found that a temperature of ${\delta}$-precipitation decreases with an increase of the cold drawn ratio. We concluded that cold drawing of inconel 718 wire promotes the ${\delta}$-precipitation, and under the condition of a high drawing ratio, the ${\delta}$-phase could be precipitated at a temperature below the aging temperature ($718^{\circ}C$).

  • Localized corrosion behavior of Ni-based Inconel 718 alloy was investigated by electrochemical anodic polarization techniques in NACE TM 0177 A solution of 5 wt% NaCl + 0.5 wt% acetic acid at room temperature. After the solution heat treated at 1080 ℃ for 2.5 h, Inconel 718 was age-hardened at 780 ℃ for 8 h. The microstructure of the alloy surface was investigated by optical microscopic or scanning electron microscopic technique. The austenitic phase with the presence of metal carbides was observed on the surface of Inconel 718. Metal-carbides such as Nb-Mo and Ti-carbide with diameters of approximately 10 and 3 ㎛, respectively, were formed in Inconel 718. Anodic polarization results revealed that localized corrosion was observed at the interface between austenitic phase of a substrate and metal carbides. Difference in electrochemical property between a metal carbide and an austenitic substrate could provide an initiation site for localized corrosion of Inconel 718 surface.

  • Inconel 718 alloy, widely used as material of aircraft engine, has a good mechanical property in high temperature, strong anti-oxidation characteristics in oxidated current over $900^{\circ}C$, and also is not easily digested in the air containing sulfur, therefore, its usage as mechanical component is expanding rapidly. Even though Inconel alloy 718 is difficult to machine, it requires highly precise processing/machining to sustain its component quality of high accuracy. In this paper, general turning operation conditions arc tested to select the best cutting process condition by measuring surface roughness through implementing experiments with orthogonal array of cutting speed, feeding speed and cutting depth as processing parameters based on the Taguchi method. Optimal turning operation conditions are extracted from the proposed experimental models.

  • The objective of this paper is to investigate the effects of the laser power, the material thickness, comer angles, and the loop size on the formation of the comer in the cutting of Inconel 718 super-alloy sheet using high-power CW Nd: YAG laser. In order to investigate the influence of comer angles and loop sizes on the melted area and the formation of comer in the sharp comer, angular cutting tests and loop cutting tests were carried out. The results of the angular cutting tests were shown that the melted area is minimized and the melting mode is changed from nose melting in the thickness direction to the secondary melting induced by the attached dross when the comer angle is $90^{\circ}$. Through the results of loop cutting tests, the variation of the melted area and the comer shape in the sharp comer according to the loop size were examined. In addition, it was shown that a proper loop size is approximately 3 mm. The results of above experiments will be reflected on the knowledge base to generate optimal cutting path of the laser.

  • This study is to investigate the influence of hydrogen attack and UNSM on fatigue behaviors of the Inconel 718 alloy. The decrease of the fatigue life between the untreated and the hydrogen attacked material is 10-20%. The fatigue lives of hydrogen attacked specimen decreased without a fatigue limit, similar to those of nonferrous materials. Due to hydrogen embrittlement, about 80% of the surface cracks were smaller than the average grain size of $13{\mu}m$. Many small surface cracks caused by the embrittling effect of hydrogen attack were initiated at the grain boundaries and surface scratches. Cracks were irregularly distributed, grew, and then coalesced through tearing, leading to a reduction of fatigue life. Results revealed that the fatigue lives of UNSM-treated specimens were longer than those of the untreated specimens.

  • The objective of this paper is to investigate the statistical properties of Vickers hardness (HV) for friction welded parts in a Ni-based super alloy (Alloy718). In the case of post weld heat treatment (PWHT) parts, hardness tests were repeated for three different applied loads, 100, 200, and 300 g, with a duration time of 10 seconds. The arithmetic means of the Vickers hardness in heat affected zone (HAZ) materials were smaller than those of the base metal (BM) in all of the applied loads. The coefficient of variation (COV) for the BM and HAZ decreased by increasing the applied load. The probability distribution of the Vickers hardness followed the Weibull distribution well. The distribution of the Vickers hardness was not found to be symmetric. The shape parameter and scale parameter increased by increasing the applied load at both the BM and HAZ.

  • Application of the aged Inconel 718 in hydrogen environment is seriously restraint by its high hydrogen embrittlement (HE) sensitivity. m previous researches, we have suggested the possibility and applicability of the laser surface annealing (LSA) process in improving the HE resistance of this alloy. Sequentially, a study on the effects of the precipitates in the Inconel 718 on its HE sensitivity was conducted in this research. Firstly, flat bar specimens were heat-treated to obtain various kinds of precipitation microstructures concerning the ${\gamma}$" phase and the 6 phase. Hydrogen was charged into the specimen by a cathodic charging process. The loss in reduction of area (RA) caused by hydrogen charging was used to assess the HE sensitivity. The HE sensitivity of the alloy was lowered with decreasing the volume fraction of ${\gamma}$". Moreover, it was possible to increase the HE resistance of the aged alloy by dissolving the $\delta$ phase, keeping the strength at the same level as that of the common aged alloy. Thus, we concluded that both the $\delta$ phase and the ${\gamma}$" phase affected the HE sensitivity of Inconel 718. Next, two kinds of notch tensile specimens were fabricated, one kind having $\delta$ phase and the other having no $\delta$ phase. All these specimens were aged via the same aging heat treatment process. The LSA process annealed a thin layer of the notch bottom of each specimen. One specimen of each kind was charged with hydrogen by the cathodic hydrogen charging process. Loss in the notch tensile strength (NTS) caused by hydrogen was used to evaluate the HE sensitivity. It was found that while the HE sensitivity of conventionally aged Inconel 718 was decreased by the LSA process, the HE sensitivity of the $\delta$-free aged Inconel 718 could further be decreased. Therefore, for applications in hydrogen environments, it is possible to fabricate alloys with both good HE resistance and high strength by controlling the precipitation conditions, and to improve HE resistance further via applying the LSA process.
