Background: Atopic dermatitis starts as an early childhood type I hypersensitivity to environmental allergens and is often the first step in the atopic march to develop into asthma and allergic rhinitis. Despite progress that has been achieved in management, this health problem remains poorly controlled and cause great pain and suffering for many children and their parents To introduce nurses to recent progress in pathophysiology, management and preventive measure of atopic disease. Search method: Systemic search was done using the PubMed and CINAHL from 1980 to 2005. In addition, historical references were taken from standard medical textbook. Results: In total, 30 relevant publications were located including primary research and review articles that cover the pathophysiology, management, and preventive measure of atopy. The evidence emerging from literature indicate that non-medical approaches such as breastfeeding and probiotics would improve management outcomes. Conclusion: The review suggests that breastfeeding and probiotic approaches would be the most effective preventive measures for children with atopic diseases.

Nummular eczema is well-shaped, coin-like lesion. Usually it is surrounded by the papules and vesicles, and is likely to be the impetigo. It's said that nummular eczema is combined with atopic dermititis, contact dermatitis, bacterial infection and so on. Recently, we experienced a nummular eczema with impetigo and that was successfully treated by the herb-medication and the ceramic resonance therapy. The medications taken by the patient were yunwhasagnatang and gamisopungsan which is used to treat allergic disease and make immune system be strong. The former effects the liver to be cool down and healthy and it also has anti-imflamatory reactions like the corticosteroid hormone. Ceramic resonance therapy utilises irradiation within the frequency range of the radiation emitted by the human body. So we report this case with a brief review of the oriental medical and medical literatures.

본 연구는 옻(Rhus verniciflua)에 대한 국산 미생물 발효차 폴리 페놀물질 인 theaflavin(TF)과 thearubigin(TR)의 항알레르기 효과를 조사하였다. HPLC, column chromatography 및 TLC로 이용하여, 한국 원주산, 일본산 및 중국산 락커(lacquer)로부터 아주 강한 알레르기를 유발하는 long chain alkylphenol을 함유하는 crude urushiol 성분을 분리하였다. 고분자 이중 및 삼중불포화물질의 함량은 중국산 라커의 crude urushiol에 가장 많이 포함되어 있었다. 중국산 라커의 crude urushiol에서 유발되는 접촉성 알레르기 피부염 발생은 5%농도에서 한국산이나 일본산 라커의 시료보다 높았으며, TF 및 TR를 처리한 모든 농도에서 접촉성 알레르기 피부염의 유의적인 감소를 나타내었다. 이들 결과로부터 발효차의 폴리페놀성 TF와 TR은 옻의 접촉성 피부염에 대한 유의적인 항알레르기 효과를 나타내었다.

Allergic contact dermatitis is a common skin disease resulting from specific immunologic sensitization to topically applied various allergen. The Purpose of this study was to investigate skin morphologic cahnges by light microscopic and scanning electron Microscope, changes of protein band by SDS-PAGE(SDS-polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis) in the skin effectiveness for beruty improvement of Geranium essential oil on skin troubles by surfactant. The results of the study are as follows, 1. From the observed result of FE-Scanning Electron Microscope, groups treated by Geranium essential oil in group treated Geranium essential oil during 1 week in surfactant treated group during 1 week, the group was repaired in irregularity surface of tissue by alleviate-keratinization of Geranium essential oil. 2. As a result of protein analysis the group treated on surfactant was rised protein upper range of 97,0004a11on by hyper-keratinization and group treated during 1 week by surfactant was decreased protein below range of 43,000dalton.

The effect of aqueous extracts of medicinal plants $AMP-365^{TM}$ was tested for immune system regulating activity based on anti-inflammatory activity, anti-oxidant, macrophage proliferation and T-lymphocyte proliferation activity. $AMP-365^{TM}$ dose-dependently increased proliferation of RAW264.7 macrophage cells and its nitric oxide production as well as DPPH radical scavenging activity. On the other hand, T-lymphocyte proliferation activity was decreased on dose-dependent manner. Passive cutaneous anaphylaxis reaction was alleviated by 49% by administering 250 mg/kg of $AMP-365^{TM}$. The results suggest that $AMP-365^{TM}$ can be beneficial in the treatment of immediate allergic reactions as an adjuvant supplement material.

Rubia cordifolia has been used to treat diseases for many years in China and India. Although the biological properties and major compounds of R. cordifolia have been extensively studied, the underlying mechanisms of its biological effects remain elusive. In terms of immunological effects, anti-inflammation effect of macrophage (Raw 264.7) simply has been reported. In this study, R. cordifolia was extracted in 70% ethanol and the extract did not affect to macrophage (Raw 264.7) pro-inflammation and T cell (Molt-4). However, in mast cell (RBL-2H3), it showed inhibition of degranulation. The inducing inhibitory effect on degranulation was related to concentration dependent variation in phosphorylation of ERK-1/2 and upregulating the JNK phosphorylation in RBL-2H3 cells. Based on these data, we concluded that R. cordifolia newly have anti-allergenic effects in RBL-2H3 and might be used as a therapeutic agent to treat or prevent allergic diseases such as asthma and atopic dermatitis.

The use of skin whitening agents have been recently increased in various kinds of cosmetic products, although there were reports that whitening agents might cause allergic contact dermatitis. A murine local lymph node assay (LLNA) has been developed as an alternative to guinea pigs for contact sensitization potential. This study was carried out to investigate the skin sensitization potential of three whitening agents, kojic acid, arbutin, azelaic acid, by LLNA using a non-radioistopic endpoint.(omitted)

양파(노란색, 붉은색, 흰색)의 열수 추출물이 DNCB로 감작된 4주령 BALB/c mouse 암컷에 유도된 접촉성 피부염의 억제효과를 조사하였다. 림프절, 비장 및 흉선의 무게는 양파 투여군이 DNCB 대조군보다는 낮게 나타났다. 양파 추출물을 투여한 군에서 귀의 무게는 양파 추출물의 농도가 높을수록 감소하는 경향을 보였으며, 대조군과 비교하여 무게에 함량 변화가 있었다. 양파추출물을 1,000 mg/kg 농도로 투여하면 귀의 무게는 대조군과 유사한 수준까지 낮아졌으며, 귀의 두께는 양파추출물을 투여한 군에서 시간이 경과할수록 두께가 감소하는 경향을 나타내었다. MDA 함량은 DNCB대조군과 양파 투여군을 비교하였을 경우에, 간 조직에서 차이가 나타나지 않았으나, 염증이 발생한 귀 조직에서는 차이가 나타났으며, NO 함량은 모든 양파그룹에서 염증이 억제되어 대조군에 유사하게 측정되었다.

Cutaneous injuries stung by jellyfish are not uncommon in human exposed to marine environments. Most of the cases occur to scuba divers, fishermen, and travelers swimming at the beach. The symptoms vary from mild dermatosis to fatal systemic reaction. Some group of jellyfish like Atlantic Portuguese man-of-war (Physalia physalis) provokes acute severe skin injuries with systemic symptoms of nausea, bradycardia, and rarely anaphylaxis. But it is unusual case that allergic dermatitis caused by Scyphistoma which is polyp stage of jellyfish (Aurelia aurita) happened to zoo keepers working at indoor dolphin pool. This case report is about dermatosis with symptoms such as painful, irritant, itching, and erupted skin lesions on the neck and face of zoo keepers working at dolphinarium in Seoul zoo, Korea.
