In this study, Anaerobic sewage sludge in a batch reactor operating at $35^{\circ}C$ was used as the seed to investigate the effect of pretreatments of waste activated sludge and to evaluate its hydrogen production potential by anaerobic fermentation. Various pretreatments including physical, chemical and biological means were conducted to utilize for substrate. As a result, SCODcr of alkali and mechanical treatment was 15 and 12 times enhanced, compared with a supernatant of activated sludge. And SCODcr was 2 time increase after re-treatment with biological hydrolysis. Those were shown that sequential hybridized treatment of sludge by chemical & biological methods is most efficient process for sludge treatment. The pre-treatment activated sludge was tested to conform hydrogen production potential in batch experiments. When buffer solution was added to the activated sludge, hydrogen production potential increased as compare with no addition.
We have isolated an anticoagulant polysaccharide from the alkali extracts of Coriolus versicolor. The anticoagulant polysaccharide was purified through a gradual ethanol precipitation and three concecutive chromatography of DEAE-Toyopearl 650C, Sephadex G-100, and Sepharose CL-6B by measuring activated partial thromboplastin time (aPTT). The anticoagulant polysaccharide showed the homogenecity on HPLC using a gel permeation column and had about $7.2{\times}10^{5}$ molecular weight. The polysaccharide consisted of fucose, glucose, and galactose in a molar ratio of 1.0:0.2:0.2:0.1, and also compromised 19.32% of sulfate at its constituent sugars. The polysaccharide showed the two typical bands of C-O-S $(823\;cm^{-1})$ and S=O $(1257\;cm^{-1})$ in the IR spectroscopy. The sulfated polysaccharide (CV-40-Va-1) inhibited the blood coagulation via the intrinsic pathway like heparin whose activity produced a concentration dependent effect in aPTT and thrombin time (TT).
The analysis of 41Ca in concrete generated from the nuclear facilities decommissioning is critical for ensuring the safe management of radioactive waste. An analytical method for the determination of 41Ca in concrete is described. 41Ca is a neutron-activated long radionuclide, and hence, for accurate analysis, it is necessary to completely extract Ca from the concrete sample where it exists as the predominant element. The decomposition methods employed were the acid leaching, microwave digestion, and alkali fusion. A comparison of the results indicated that the alkali fusion is the most suitable way for the separation of Ca from the concrete sample. Several processes of hydroxide and carbonate precipitation were employed to separate 41Ca from interferences. The method relies on the differences in the solubility of the generated products. The behavior of Ca and the interfering elements such as Fe, Ni, Co, Eu, Ba, and Sr is examined at each separation step. The purified 41Ca was measured by a liquid scintillation counter, and the quench curve and counting efficiency were determined by using a certified reference material of known 41Ca activity. The recoveries in this study ranged from 56 to 68%, and the minimum detectable activity was 50 mBq g-1 with 0.5 g of concrete sample.
The purpose of this study is to investigate the effect of sulfate (${SO_4}^{2-}$) and magnesium ($Mg^{2+}$) ions on sulfate resistance of Alkali-activated materials using Fly ash and Ground granulated blast furnace slag (GGBFS). In this research, 30%, 50% and 100% of GGBFS was replaced by sodium silicate modules ($Ms(SiO_2/Na_2O)$, molar ratio, 1.0, 1.5 and 2.0). In order to investigate the effects of $Mg^{2+}$ and ${SO_4}^{2-}$, compression strength, weight change, lengh expansion of the samples were measured in 10% sodium sulfate ($Na_2SO_4$), 10%, 5% and 2.5% magnesium sulfate ($MgSO_4$), 10% magnesium nitrate ($Mg(NO_3)_2$), 10% [magnesium chloride ($MgCl_2$) + sodium sulfate ($Na_2SO_4$)] and 10% [magnesium nitrate $(Mg(NO_3)_2$ + sodium sulfate ($Na_2SO_4$)] solution, respectively and X-ray diffraction analysis was conducted after each experiment. As a result, when $Mg^{2+}$ and ${SO_4}^{2-}$ coexist, degradation of compressive strength and expansion of the sample were caused by sulfate erosion. It was found that the reaction of $Mg^{2+}$ with Calcium Silicate Hydrate (C-S-H) occurred and $Ca^{2+}$ was produced. Then the Gypsum ($CaSO_4{\cdot}2H_2O$) was formed due to reaction between $Ca^{2+}$ and ${SO_4}^{2-}$, and also Magnesium hydroxide ($Mg(OH)_2$, Brucite) was produced by the reaction between $Mg^{2+}$ and $OH^-$.

This paper describes the investigation into the durability alkali-activated materials(AAM) mortar and paste samples manufactured using fly-ash(FA) and ground granulated blast furnace slag(GGBFS) exposed to a sulfate environment with different GGBFS replace ratios(30, 50 and 100%), sodium silicate modules($Ms[SiO_2/Na_2O]$ 1.0, 1.5 and 2.0). The tests involved immersions into 10% sodium sulfate solution($Na_2SO_4$), 10% magnesium sulfate solution($MgSO_4$), 10% magnesium nitrate solution($Mg(NO_3)_2$) and 5% magnesium nitrate($Mg(NO_3)_2$+5% sodium sulfate solution+$Na_2SO_4$). The evolution of compressive strength, weight, length expansion and microstructural observation such as x-ray diffraction were studied. As a results, in case of immersed in $Na_2SO_4$, $Mg(NO_3)_2$ and $Mg(NO_3)_2+Na_2SO_4$ shows increase in long-term strength. However, for samples immersed in $MgSO_4$, the general observation was that the compressive strength decreased after immersion. The most drastic reduction of compressive strength and expansion of weight and length occurred when GGBFS or Ms ratios were higher. Also, the XRD analysis of samples immersed in magnesium sulfate indicated that expansion of AAM caused by gypsum($CaSO_4{\cdot}2H_2O$) and brucite(MgOH). The results showed that, an additional condition $Mg^{2+}$ in which ${SO_4}^{2-}$ is the presence of a certain concentration, sulfate erosion has to be accelerated.
FAB CAD MS/MS(Fast Atom Bombardment Collision Activated Dissociation Mass Spectrometry/Mass Spectrometry) was used to study different degree of bond stability according to the linkage positions of alkali cationized $(Na^+, Li^+, K^+, NH_4^+)$ stereoisomeric and synthetic oligosaccharides. The alkali metal cations were much more stable, requiring over -40 eV of collision energy vs. only -10 eV for the protonated forms. Of the cations, the potassium cationized trisaccharides were more stable than the others. They would not yield fragment ions under the conditions of collision available in triple quadrupole. Other cationized species exhibited decreasing stability in the series $Nap^+>Li^+>NH_4^+$ using 0.8 mTorr argon pressure in the collision cell. Metal cations of the oligosaccharides maintained charge principally on the amino sugar as shown by shift of all the fragment ions containing the amino sugar. The reason for the higher stability of the metal cationized form is the formation of crown ether-like bond around metal cations, N-acetyl group on GlcNAc and oxygens on fucose moiety. Depending on the metal sizes and the conformation of linkage-isomeric region, cationized species gave linkage dependent fragment patterns and exhibited stability in the series 1-6 > 1-4 > 1-3 linkage.

It has been well known that concrete structures exposed to chloride and sulfate attack environments lead to significant deterioration in their durability due to chloride ion and sulfate ion attack. The purpose of this experimental research is to evaluate the long-term durability against chloride ion and sulfate attack of the alkali activated cementless concrete replacing the cement with ground granulated blast furnace slag. For this purpose, the cementless concrete specimens were made for water-binder ratios of 40%, 45%, and 50%, respectively and then this specimens were cured in the water of $20{\pm}3^{\circ}C$ and immersed in fresh water, 10% sodium sulfate solution for 28, 91, 182, and 365 days, respectively. To evaluate the long-term durability to chloride ion and sulfate attack for the cementless concrete specimens, the diffusion coefficient for chloride ion and compressive strength ratio, mass change ratio, and length change ratio were measured according to the NT BUILD 492 and JSTM C 7401, respectively. It was observed from the test results that the resistance against chloride ion and sulfate attack of the cemetntless concrete were comparatively largely increased than those of OPC concrete irrespective of water-binder ratio.
The aim of this study is to evaluate the applicability of Granulated Blast Furnace Slag to the development of the Powdered Ready-mixed Shotcrete. First of all, after accomplishing SEM analysis and Leaching Test, the laboratory and field experiments for evaluating the utility of Granulated Blast Furnace Slag were performed. As a result of SEM and Leaching test, the environmental stability was confirmed. That is, non-detection of harmful lists and dense shotcrete structure result from mixing Granulated Blast Furnace Slag. As a result of lab. and field test, Blast Furnace Slag is superior to Plain Batch in improving strength and durability. And it will be able to improve to some extent the problem caused by the delayed reaction of existing Granulated Blast Furnace Slag with alkali activated material. Also the proper amount of Granulated Blast Furnace Slag is estimated to be under 30%. Finally, it is possible that Granulated Blast Furnace Slag can apply to economical recycling and development of the Ready-mixed Shotcrete for its price is only about 5% of Silica-finne's price.
This paper presents an investigation of the mechanical and microstructural properties on hardened samples that were synthesized using blended binder(fly ash(FA) and blast furnace slag cement(BFSC)), alkali activator and sea water or distilled water. Binders were prepared by mixing the FA and BFSC in different blend weight ratios of 6:4, 7:3 and 8:2. Sodium hydroxide and sodium silicate were used 5 wt% of binder, respectively, as an alkaline activator. The compressive strength and absorption were measured at the age of 3, 7 and 28 days, and the XRD, TGA and MIP tests were performed at the age of 28 days. An increase in the content of BFSC leads to an increase in the quantities of ettringite and C-S-H formed, regardless of the type of mixing water. And it also shows higher strength due to the reduction of pores larger than ~50 nm. All hardened samples in this study have common hydration products of C-S-H, $Ca(OH)_2$ and calcite. Hydrocalumite of all reaction products formed was only present in hardened sample mixed with sea water. For each FA/BFSC mixing ratio, the compressive strength of hardened sample mixed with sea water was similar to that mixed with distilled water. It is proposed that the slight increase of strength of samples mixed with sea water is mainly due to the presence of hydrocalumite phase containing chlorine ion, contributing to the change of total porosity and pore size distribution in samples.

This research presents the results of the strength and drying shrinkage properties to study the effect of ground granulated blast furnace slag(GGBFS), fly ash(FA) and calcium sulfoaluminate(CSA) for activated ternary blended slag cement. The activated ternary blended cement(ATBC) mortar were prepared having a constant water-cementitious materials ratios of 0.4. The GGBFS contents ratios of 100%, 80%, 70% and 60%, FA replacement ratios of 10%, 20%, 30% and 40%, CSA ratios of 0%, 10%, 20% and 30% were designed. The superplasticizer of polycarboxylate type were used. The activator was used of 10% sodium hydroxide(NaOH) + 10% sodium silicate($Na_2SiO_3$) by weight of binder. Test were conducted for mini slump, setting time, V-funnel, water absorption, compressive strength and drying shrinkage. According to the experimental results, the contents of superplasticizer, V-funnel and compressive strength increases with an increase in CSA contents for all mixtures. Moreover, the setting time, water absorption ratios and drying shrinkage ratio decrease with and increase in CSA. One of the major reason for the increase of strength and decrease of drying shrinkage is the accelerated reactivity of GGBFS with alkali activator and CSA. The CSA contents is the main parameter to explain the strength development and decreased drying shrinkage in the ATBC.
