This paper presents a method for designing a full state feedback linear static control law. This will stabilize a given linear uncertain system and also guarantee the performance of the system. The uncertain systems are described by state equation which contains uncertain parameters in system and input distribution matrices. The method is based on the guaranteed cost control of Chang and Peng(1972). The controller gain can be obtained by the solution of a algebraic Riccati equation in which the input weighting matrices depend on the uncertainty bounds. The algebraic Riecati equation in this paper is same as that of weighted LQ regulator problem.
In this paper, constraint aggregation is combined with the adjoint and multiple shooting strategies for optimal control of differential algebraic equations (DAE) systems. The approach retains the inherent parallelism of the conventional multiple shooting method, while also being much more efficient for large scale problems. Constraint aggregation is employed to reduce the number of nonlinear continuity constraints in each multiple shooting interval, and its derivatives are computed by the adjoint DAE solver DASPKADJOINT together with ADIFOR and TAMC, the automatic differentiation software for forward and reverse mode, respectively. Numerical experiments demonstrate the effectiveness of the approach.

The directional algebraic reconstruction technique (DART) using the trigonometric current pattern is one of the image reconstruction algorithms in electrical impedance tomography (EIT). This method needs to compute resistances between electrode pairs as using relation between the injected currents and measured voltages for the reconstruction of the inner image. The delay time is incurred in this process. Therefore this paper proposes modified directional algebraic reconstruction technique (mDART) using the adjacent current pattern instead of the trigonometric current pattern to solve the delay time for initial resistance values. The proposed method uses measured voltages instead of computed resistances in the reconstruction algorithm. Hence this method can eliminate the delay time because it does not use the resistances. In conclusion, the proposed method improves image quality and image reconstruction time by using the adjacent current pattern. To prove performance of the proposed method, we carried on computer simulation of various cases.
In this article we have presented a unique representation for interval arithmetic. The traditional interval arithmetic is transformed into crisp by symbolic parameterization. Then the proposed interval arithmetic is extended for fuzzy numbers and this fuzzy arithmetic is used as a tool for uncertain finite element method. In general, the fuzzy finite element converts the governing differential equations into fuzzy algebraic equations. Fuzzy algebraic equations either give a fuzzy eigenvalue problem or a fuzzy system of linear equations. The proposed methods have been used to solve a test problem namely heat conduction problem along with fuzzy finite element method to see the efficacy and powerfulness of the methodology. As such a coupled set of fuzzy linear equations are obtained. These coupled fuzzy linear equations have been solved by two techniques such as by fuzzy iteration method and fuzzy eigenvalue method. Obtained results are compared and it has seen that the proposed methods are reliable and may be applicable to other heat conduction problems too.

This paper presents an efficient numerical method for the computation of eigenpair derivatives for a real symmetric eigenvalue problem with distinct and multiple eigenvalues. The method has a very simple algorithm and gives an exact solution. Furthermore, it saves computer sotrage and CPU time. The algorithm preserves not only the symmetricity but also the band width of the matrices, allowing efficient computer storage and solution techniques. Results from the proposed method for calculating the eigenpair derivatives are compared with those from Rudisill and Chu's method and Nelson's method which is known efficient one in the case of distinct natural frequencies. As an example to demonstrate the efficiency of the proposed method in the case of distinct eigenvalues, a cantilever plate is considered. The design parameter of the cantilever plate is its thickness. For the eigenvalue problem with multiple natural frequencies, the adjacent eigenvectors are used in the algebraic equation as side conditions, lying adjacent to the multiplicity of multiple natural frequency distinct eigenvalues, which appear when design parameter varies. A cantilever beam is used to demonstrate the efficiency of the proposed method in the case of multiple natural frequencies. Results form the proposed method for calculating the eigenpair derivatives are compared with those from Dailey's method(an amendation of Ojalvo's work) which finds the exact eigenvector derivatives. The design parameter of the cantilever beam is its height. Data is presented showing the amount of CPU time used to compute the first ten eigenpair derivatives by each method. It is important to note that the numerical stability of the proposed method is proved.
The stresses and deflections in a laminated rectangular plate under thermal vibration are determined by using the moving least squares differential quadrature (MLSDQ) method based on the first order shear deformation theory. The weighting coefficients used in MLSDQ approximation are obtained through a fast computation of the MLS shape functions and their partial derivatives. By using this method, the governing differential equations are transformed into sets of linear homogeneous algebraic equations in terms of the displacement components at each discrete point. Boundary conditions are implemented through discrete grid points by constraining displacements, bending moments and rotations of the plate. Solving this set of algebraic equations yields the displacement components. Then substituting these displacements into the constitutive equation, we obtain the stresses. The approximate solutions for stress and deflection of laminated plate with cross layer under thermal load are obtained. Numerical results show that the MLSDQ method provides rapidly convergent and accurate solutions for calculating the stresses and deflections in a multi-layered plate of cross ply laminate subjected to thermal vibration of sinusoidal temperature including shear deformation with a few grid points.

The paper proposes a practical meshless method for the free vibration analysis of clamped plates having arbitrary shapes by extending the non-dimensional dynamic influence function (NDIF) method, which was developed by the author in 1999. In the proposed method, the domain and boundary of the plate of interest are discretized using only nodes without elements unlike FEM and the system matrices are obtained by making domain nodes and boundary nodes satisfy the governing differential equation and boundary conditions, respectively. However, since the above system matrices are not square ones, the problem of free vibrations of clamped plates is not reduced to an algebraic eigenvalue problem. An additional theoretical treatment is considered to produce an algebraic eigenvalue problem. It is revealed from case studies that the proposed method is valid and accurate.
A stable walking pattern generation method for a biped robot is presented in this paper. In general, the ZMP (zero moment point) equations, which are expressed as differential equations, are solved to obtain a stable walking pattern. However, the number of differential equations is less than that of unknown coordinates in the ZMP equations. It is impossible to integrate the ZMP equations directly since one or more constraint equations are involved in the ZMP equations. To overcome this difficulty, DAE (differential and algebraic equation) solution method is employed. The proposed method has enough flexibility for various kinematic structures. Walking simulation for a virtual biped robot is performed to demonstrate the effectiveness and validity of the proposed method. The method can be applied to the biped robot for stable walking pattern generation.
The algebraic reconstruction technique is one of the reconstruction methods in CT and shows good image quality against noise-dominant conditions. The number of iteration is one of the key factors determining the execution time for the algebraic reconstruction technique. However, there are some rules for determining the number of iterations that result in more than a few hundred iterations. Thus, the rules are difficult to apply in practice. In this study, we proposed a method to determine the number of iterations for practical applications. The reconstructed image quality shows slow convergence as the number of iterations increases. Image quality 𝜖 < 0.001 was used to determine the optimal number of iteration. The Shepp-Logan head phantom was used to obtain noise-free projection and projections with noise for 360, 720, and 1440 views were obtained using Geant4 Monte Carlo simulation that has the same geometry dimension as a clinic CT system. Images reconstructed by around 10 iterations within the stop condition showed good quality. The method for determining the iteration number is an efficient way of replacing the best image-quality-based method, which brings over a few hundred iterations.
This paper presents analytical approximate solutions for the initial post-buckling deformation of the pipes in oil and gas wells. The governing differential equation with sinusoidal nonlinearity can be reduced to form a third-order-polynomial nonlinear equation, by coupling of the well-known Maclaurin series expansion and orthogonal Chebyshev polynomials. Analytical approximations to the resulting boundary condition problem are established by combining the Newton's method with the method of harmonic balance. The linearization is performed prior to proceeding with harmonic balancing thus resulting in a set of linear algebraic equations instead of one of non-linear algebraic equations, unlike the classical method of harmonic balance. We are hence able to establish analytical approximate solutions. The approximate formulae for load along axis, and periodic solution are established for derivative of the helix angle at the end of the pipe. Illustrative examples are selected and compared to "reference" solution obtained by the shooting method to substantiate the accuracy and correctness of the approximate analytical approach.
