Continuous casting of the $Al-CuAl_2$ eutectic composite was carried out by the upward continuous casting process. The morphology of the eutectic growth and the stability of solid-liquid interface were investigated under various growth conditions. It was possible to get the planar solid-liquid interface at the condition of $G_L/R$=$3.6{\times}10^3^{\circ}Csec/mm^2$. And the colony structures were formed at the conditions of $G_L/R$ < $R=0.33{\times}10^3^{\circ}Csec/mm^2$. The inter-lamellar spacing of $Al-CuAl_2$ eutectic composite was decreased with the increase of pulling speed. The reduction of inter-lamellar spacing & value of $G_L/R$ caused the increase of ultimate tensile strength and Rockwell hardness in $Al-CuAl_2$ eutectic composite.
Mullite whiskers were synthesized by a vapor-solid reaction with $Al(OH)_3-SiO_2-AlF_3$. The heat treatment temperature did not affect the shape of mullite whisker but the composition change resulted in different sizes. The first one was $30-50{\mu}m$ in size with the aspect ratio of 60 and above, and the second one was $600{\mu}m$ and below in size with the aspect ratio of 15 and below. The $Al_2O_3$ content in formed mullite whisker was 73.57-80.29 wt%, which is high $Al_2O_3$ content composition. The Young's modulus and the hardness measured by nano-indentation method were 136.7 GPa and 19.81 GPa, respectively.
Aluminum nitride(AlN) thin films were deposited on silicon substrate by reactive RF magnetron sputtering without substrate heating. We investigated the dependence of some properties for AlN thin film on sputtering conditions such as working pressure, $N_2$ concentration and RF power. XRD, Ellipsometer and AES has been measured to find out structural properties and preferred orientation of AlN thin films. Deposition rate of AlN thin film was increased with an increase of RF power and decreased with an increase of $N_2$ concentration. AES in-depth measurements showed that stoichiometry of Aluminium and Nitrogen elements were not affected by $N_2$ concentration. It has shown that low working pressure, low $N_2$ concentration and high RF power should be maintained to deposit AlN thin film with a high degree of (0002) preferred orientation.
Thermite reaction products of MgO and Al were added to MgO-C refractory to improve the properties of corrosion against the attack of slag, oxidation and mechanical spalling. Corrosion rate of MgO-C-MgAl2O4 spinel refractory at the ratio of 3.3(CaO/SiO2) slag was smaller than that of MgO-C and MgO-C-Al refractory. The excellent corrosion resistance of the MgO-C-MgAl2O4 spinel refractory against the slag attack was appeared by Al and MgAl2O4 spinel with high melting point and corrosion resistance and the high thermal conductivity and low thermal expansion of AIN. Hot M.O.R at 140$0^{\circ}C$ and the resistance of oxidation weight loss at 90$0^{\circ}C$ were 210kg/cm2 and -12% respectively.
This study was investigated to the reaction of alumina sintering with alkaline. The soluble $NaAlO_2$ was made after the commercial ${\alpha}-Al_2O_3$ was calcinated with NaOH. The reaction of alumina was carried out to be based on the effects of calcination temperature, time, and the mixing ratio of ${\alpha}-Al_2O_3/NaOH$. The alumina was calcined over $500^{\circ}C$ with NaOH powder after it was sieved with 170/270 mesh. The calcined alumina with NaOH powder was dissolved into $25^{\circ}C$ distilled water and filtrated, and HCI was added to adapt pH 6.5~7.5. The residue was separated with vacuum pump for filtration after it was adapted to proper pH, and aluminum compound was precipitated with $Al(OH)_3$. The investigation was carried out with the variables; the calcination temperature($500-900^{\circ}C$), the calcination time (30~90 min), and the concentration of HCI when leaching(0.5~3.0N) respectively. In this investigation, the main product of ${\alpha}-Al_2O_3$ and NaOH was $NaAlO_2$ and the maximum conversion ratio was 91.4% under the optimum conditions as followed ; the ratio of NaOH/${\alpha}-Al_2O_3$ was 1.5 and the calcination conditions were $800^{\circ}C$ and 90 min.

Alloys of Fe-(5, 10, 15)Al and Fe-(10, 20, 30, 40)Cr were corroded at 700 and $800^{\circ}C$ for 70 hr in either atmospheric air or 1 atm of Ar+$1%SO_2$ gases. In these atmospheres, Fe-5Al and Fe-10Cr alloys displayed poor corrosion resistance. In atmospheric air, Fe-5Al alloys formed oxide nodules, while Fe-10Cr alloys formed thick scales and internal oxides. In Ar+$1%SO_2$ gases, Fe-5Al and Fe-10Cr alloys formed thick, nonadherent bi-layered scales, which grew primarily by the outward diffusion of Fe ions and inward diffusion of oxygen and sulfur ions. By contrast, in atmospheric air and Ar+$1%SO_2$ gases, Fe-(10, 15)Al and Fe-(20, 30, 40)Cr alloys displayed good corrosion resistance by forming $Al_2O_3$ and $Cr_2O_3$ layers on the surface, respectively.
${\gamma}$-LiAlO2 fibers for fiber reinforced molten carbonate fuel cell (MCFC) matrix have been produced from LiAlO2 complex polymeric sols using the sol-gel process. The stable and spinnable LiAlO2 sols could be synthesized by mixing LiNO3 alcohol solutions in aluminum complex polymeric sols prepared through the condensationpolymerization reaction of 1 more of aluminum tri-sec-butoxide with 0.55 mole of mixed chelates (mole ratio of acetylaceton/triethanolamine=0.25/0.3). It was found that the viscosity range for fiber-spinning should be higher than 30 poise. The defect-free flexible ${\gamma}$-LiAlO2 fibers with the average tensile strength of 350 MPa could be obtained when the spinned fibers were heat-treated to 120$0^{\circ}C$ on the specified heating schedule after dried at room temperature.
Nanostructured Cu-$Al_2O_3$ composite powders were synthesized by thermochemical process. The synthesis procedures are 1) preparation of precursor powder by spray drying of solution made from water-soluble copper and aluminum nitrates, 2) air heat treatments to evaporate volatile components in the precursor powder and synthesis of nano-structured CuO + $Al_2O_3$, and 3) CuO reduction by hydrogen into pure Cu. The suggested procedures stimulated the formation of the gamma-$Al_2O_3$, and different alumina formation behaviors appeared with various heat treating temperatures. The mean particle size of the final Cu/$Al_2O_3$ composite powders produced was 20 nm, and the electrical conductivity and hardness in the hot-extruded bulk were competitive with Cu/$Al_2O_3$ composite by the conventional internal oxidation process.
Al2O3/SiC nanocomposites are fabricated through intensive ball milling to mix fine SiC particles uniformly with the Al2O3 powder. Another role of milling is to reduce particle sizes by crushing particles as well as agglomerates. However, balls are worn during ball milling and the sample powder mixtures pick up to weight loss of the balls. In this study, pressureless sintering was performed to obtain Al2O3/SiC nanocomposites. It was found that the wear rate of zirconia balls during milling was considerable, and the zirconia addition after even a few hours of ball milling could increase the sintering rates of the nanocomposites significantly. Thus, addition of ZrO2 changed the sintering behaviors as well as mechanical properties of Al2O3/SiC nanocomposites.

The device characteristics and the interface electronic structures of organic light-emitting devices based on tris-(8-hydroxyquinoline)aluminum were investigated with $Al/CaF_2$, Al/LiF, and Al-only cathodes. Similar to the Al/LiF cathode, the $Al/CaF_2$ cathode greatly improved the performance of the device over Al-only cathode. However, a photoelectron spectroscopy study revealed that despite the performance improvement, the evolution of the new peaks during $Al/CaF_2$ cathode formation closely resembled those of the Al-only cathode rather than the Al/LiF cathode.
