  • The 6063 Aluminium alloy were electrocolored and anodized at the same time in addition of $CoSO_4$, $FeSO_4$, in the electrolyte and investigated by AES/SAM. It was found that the thickness of anodic oxide film is increased linearly in DC type, and DC combined AC type, the more ratio of anodic Portion in AC, the more increased of anodic film thickness. The color of anodic film was changed from silver to yellow when the increase of the ratio of cathodic portion in AC. Also the increase of $CoSO_4$, $FeSO_4$ in the electrolyte, the coloring time is decreased. From the AES/SAM results, the element of anodic oxide film are Al,O and S. The result of depth profile, the most of the S distributed on the surface and the more S is in DC combined AC type than only DC type.

  • Crystallographic phases of Plasma electrolytic oxidized Al alloy, A1100, A5052, A6061, A6063, A7075, were investigated. Two types of electrolyte $Na_2Si_2O_3$ and Na2P2O7 were also compared. Bipolar pulse, $2000{\mu}sec$ with $400{\mu}sec+420V$ impulse and $300{\mu}sec$ - impulse were applied for 20 min. ${\alpha}-alumina$, ${\gamma}-alumina$, ${\eta}-alumina$, $Al_{4.95}Si_{1.05}O_{9.52}$, and $(Al_{0.9}Cr_{0.1})_2O_3$ were mainly observed. Si, component of electrolyte, were moved into the PEO layer by bipolar pulse. Glassy phase was also observed at the surface of $Na_2Si_2O_3$ electrolyte treated PEO layer, and increased with the Mg content of Al alloy. It is concluded that at first glassy phase was formed by the micro plasma, and the high temperature of plasma turns glassy phase to several crystalline phases. And we could expect that many other crystalline phase could be formed by PEO process.

  • MAO(Micro-Arc Oxidation) method was used to make $Al_2O_3$ surface on 6063 Al specimen. This study was focused on an influence of voltage, density of electrolyte and a period of treatment on the change of surface microstructure by using SEM(Scanning Electron Microscope), EDS(Energy Dispersive X-ray Spectroscopy). The microstructure shows higher roughness and thicker oxidized layer with increase of voltage and maintaining period of treatment. The density of electrolyte affected a formation of more dense surface and increase of a oxidized layer.

  • Physical properties of Plasma electrolytic oxidized 8 different kinds of Al alloys, A-1100, A-2024, A-5052, A-6061, A-6063, A-7075, ACD-7B and ACD-12 were investigated. The electrolyte for PEO was $Na_2SiO_3$ and NaOH and some alkali earthen metal salts system solution. $\eta$-alumina, as well as $\gamma$-alumina, was main crystal phase, which were ever reported. Also, $Al_{4.95}Si_{1.05}O_{9.52}$ was found only in this research. So we can conclude that the process conditions of PEO apparatus and composition and concentration of its electrolyte affects crystal structure and physical properties of PEO layers much more than the compositions of Al alloy.

The electrolyte for PEO was $Na_2SiO_3$ solutions with NaOH and some alkali earthen metal salts. Porous layer near the surface of PEO coating was not found, and surface roughness Ra50 was below 2.5 ${\mu}m$. Surface roughness was affected by growth rate of plasma electrolytic oxidized layer, not by Si content in Al alloy.

  • In this work, anodizing behavior of 6xxx series aluminum alloys was studied under constant current density and constant voltage conditions in 20% sulfuric acid solution by V-t curves, I-t curves, thickness measurement, observations of surface appearance and cross-sectional observation of anodizing films. The film growth rate of the anodizing films on Al6063, Al6061 and Al6082 obtained at 20 V were $0.63{\mu}m/min$. $0.46{\mu}m/min$ and $0.38{\mu}m/min$, respectively. Time to the initiation of imperfections at the oxide/substrate interface under constant current condition was shortened and colors of anodizing films became darker with the amount of alloying elements in 6xxx series aluminum alloys. Based upon the experimental results obtained in this work, it is concluded that maximum anodizing film thickness without interfacial defects is reduced with increasing amount of alloying elements and brighter anodizing films can be obtained by decreasing amount of alloying elements in the aluminum alloys.

  • It is important to know the mechanical properties of the materials under dynamic load. The mechanical properties of most materials are influenced to some extent by strain rate. One of the reliable test device for determining the mechanical properties of materials at high strain rate is Split Hopkinson Pressure bar. In this paper, we conducted the mechanical properties test for the aluminium alloy 6063 and 6061 using the SHPB device.

The electrolyte for plasma electrolytic oxidation was mixture of distilled water, $Na_2P_2O_7$, Cu, Cr metal salts and KOH. ${\eta}$-Alumina, as well as ${\alpha}$-alumina, was main crystal phase. Another crystals such as $(Al_{0.948}Cr_{0.052})_2O_3$ and $(Al_{0.9}Cr_{0.1})_2O_3$ were also formed in the oxide layer. It was thought that the effect of electrolyte compositions on the physical properties and crystal system of PEO layers was greater than the effect of Al alloy composition variation.

  • This study reviewed the theory of acoustic emission applying generation of acoustic emission in metal cutting and proposed a relationship between fundamental cutting parameters and the root mean square (RMS) voltage of the acoustic emission on the basis of the mechanics of the orthogonal cutting operation. Experimental results are presented for 6063-T5 Auminum and the validity of this relationship is evaluated by a series of tests varying cutting speed, feed rate and rake angle in orthogonal cutting. The original formula derived theoretically has been modified in order to utilize independent of fundamental cutting parameters. RMS voltage of acoustic emission depends on cutting speed and strain rate, but it is not much affected by feed rate. Applying lubricant, the drop of RMS level has been observed.
