Optimization of Al 6063 Heat Sink using CFD Simulation and Comparative Analysis of Thermal Dissipation Properties with Thermal Conductive Polycarbonate (CFD전산모사를 이용한 Al 6063 Heat Sink 최적화 설계와 열전도성 Polycarbonate와의 방열성능 비교 분석)

  • In the LED lighting applications, because LED packages are the origin of heat generation, there are thermal design problem on heat sinks. In the thermal design, it is important to consider the total volume and the total weight of heat sink simultaneously. In this study, an Al 6063 heat sink was optimized using Computational Fluid Dynamics(CFD) simulation tool for the cooling of 30W LED module, and then the cooling performance and the total weight of heat sinks with Al 6063 and Thermal Conductive Polycarbonate(TCP) were compared under the same conditions. As the result of simulation, an Al 6063 heat sink was optimized with 22 ea. of fins and 1.6 mm of fin thickness. LED Junction Temperature of the TCP Heat Sink was $5.6^{\circ}C$ higher, but total weight of it was 47 % less than the Al 6063.

피팅 부식을 이용한 LED용 Al 6063 방열판의 열 방출 특성 향상

  • 에너지 효율이 높은 LED조명을 사용하면 에너지 절감, 이산화탄소, 환경오염물질 배출 감소의 효과를 얻을 수 있다. 그러나 LED조명에서 발생하는 열은 LED조명의 수명과 에너지 효율을 감소시킨다. 따라서 LED조명을 상용화하기 위해서는 LED조명에서 발생되는 열을 효율적으로 제거하는 것이 필수적이며 LED조명 방열판의 생산단가 또한 낮아야 한다. 이러한 조건을 충족하는 LED조명용 방열판은 Al 6063이 주로 사용되고 있다. Al 6063은 열전도 특성이 우수하고 생산단가가 저렴하다. 그러나 100 W급 이상의 고출력 LED조명에 Al 6063을 사용하기 위해서는 Al 6063의 열 방출 특성을 향상시킬 필요가 있다. 금속의 열 방출 특성을 향상시키기 위해서 주로 이용되는 방법은 표면적을 극대화 시키는 것이다. 금속에 국부적인 깊이 부식을 일이키는 Pitting corrosion을 이용하면 저렴한 비용으로 Al 6063의 표면적을 극대화하여 방열판의 열 방출 특성을 향상시킬 수 있다. 실험에 사용한 기본적인 구조의 Al 6063 방열판의 크기는 $50{\times}50{\times}30(mm)$ 이며 1M HCl + 0.05M $H_2SO_4$에서 $I_a$ = +40 mA, $t_a$ = 60 ms, $I_c$ = -40 mA, $t_c$ =20 ms로 50, 100, 200 cycle AC 에칭 하였다. Pitting corrosion된 방열판은 $3W{\times}3$개의 LED모듈에서 1시간 발광 시킨 후, 열화상 카메라를 이용하여 표면온도를 측정하였다. 실험결과 AC에칭 cycle이 증가할수록 발열특성이 우수하였으며, Pitting corrosion을 이용하지 않은 방열판에 비해 최대 $5^{\circ}C$의 표면온도 감소가 이루어졌다. 본 연구를 통해, 저렴하면서도 열 방출 특성이 높은 방열판을 설계하면, 고출력 LED조명의 상용화를 앞당길 수 있을 것이다.

  • The Friction Stir Welding (FSW) has mainly been used for making butt joints in Al alloys. Development of FSW would expand the number of applications. The FSW is a relatively solid-state joining process. This study possibility of a welding between C1020 and Al6063 by means of FSW has fundamentally clarified. The primary process parameters, such as a rotating speed, rotating direction of tool and off-set of pin periphery from materials interface were optimize, respectively.

  • Aluminum alloy matrix composites reinforced by SiC particles were prepared by rheocompocasting, a process which consists of the incoporation and distribution of reinforcement by stirring within a semi-solid alloy. When the volume fraction of SiCp and stirring speed were fixed, the dispersion of SiCp in Al-matrix alloy depended on stirring time and solid volume fraction in slurry. The results were as follows : 1) As a dispersed SiCp during stirring at $647^{\circ}C$ in 6063-Al alloy, SiC was better dispersed than that other temperature, where solid volume fraction was 43% in slurry. 2) When increased solid fraction in slurry, rate of dispersing SiC increased during stirring and porosities decreased in matrix alloy after casting. 3) Inspite of stirring with 800rpm, since solid particles of matrix alloy in slurry joined each other and occured joining growth, so that SiC was not dispersed into solid particle.

A Study on the Friction Weldability of Carbon Steel (SM45C) to Aluminum Alloy (A6063) (탄소h강(SM45C)과 알루미늄 합금(A6063)의 마찰용접성에 관한 연구)

  • This study deals with the friction weldability of machine structural carbon steel (SM45C) to Al-Mg-Si aluminium alloy (A6063). The bonding strength of friction welded joints, from all mechanical test, exceeded that of A6063 base metal, under the condition of friction time 1.5 sec, upset pressure 80MPa. The friction welded joints under these conditions exhibited tensile strength of 262MPa, bending angle of 90$^{\circ}$ without crack at weld interface and shear strength of 113MPa. Consequently, the friction weldability of SM4C to A6063 was very excellent, and that was possible without special preparation of weld surfaces.

Evaluation of the Microstructures and Mechanical Properties on Friction Welded A6063 Alloy (마찰접합 된 A6063 합금의 미세조직과 기계적 특성 평가)

  • This study was carried out to evaluate the developed microstructures and mechanical properties of friction welded A6063 alloy. For this work, specimens were prepared at a size of 12 mm ${\O}{\times}80mm$, and friction welding was carried out at a rotation speed of 2,000 RPM, friction pressure of $12kgf/cm^2$ and upset pressure of $25kgf/cm^2$. To perform an analysis of the grain boundary characteristic distributions, such as the grain size, orientation and misorientation angle distributions, the electron back-scattering diffraction method was used. In addition, in order to identify the dispersed intermetallic compounds of the base and welded materials, transmission electron microscopy was used. The experimental results found that the application of friction welding on A6063 led to significant grain refinement of the welded zone relative to that of the base material. Besides this, intermetallic compounds such as AlMnSi and $Al_2Cu$ were found to be dispersed with more refined size relative to that of the base material. This formation retains the mechanical properties of the welds, which results in the fracture aspect at the base material zone. Therefore, based on the developed microstructures and mechanical properties, the application of friction welding on A6063 could be used to obtain a sound weld zone.

Structural Analysis of Deformation and Force on Base Frame by Materials of Processed Food Equipment (가공식품 설비의 재질별 베이스 프레임에 관한 변형 및 하중 구조해석)

  • In this paper, structural analysis was conducted on the base frame for materials of the conveyor system that automatically produces nurungji. The materials of the base frame were selected as SS400, STS304, Al6063-5. Structural analysis performed Von-Mises stress and maximum displacement for 38 hot plates in real situation, and performed weight of distribution force for yield strength, and calculated safety factor. SS400 and STS304 have little displacement, but Al6063-5 is deformed to 0.149mm, which is 2.6 times greater than other materials. However, since the safety factor was calculated as 8.5, it can be applied to the applicable food processing equipment. The weight of the distributed force for the yield strength of the materials was 17.7kN for SS400, 14.7kN for STS304, and 10.2kN for Al6063-T5. When manufacturing other processed foods with a base frame of the same size, a material suitable for the corresponding weight should be selected.

Deformation Behavior of 6063 Al Alloy Deformed by Shear-Drawing Method (전단-신선 가공된 6063 알루미늄 합금의 변형거동)

  • This work investigated the microstructure and mechanical properties of 6063 Al alloy fabricated by shear-drawing (SD) technique where shear and drawing strains were combined together within a predetermined die. To find the optimum condition for sound deformation, three different dies having different inner angle and diameter of the exit channel were prepared. After single deformation of the present sample, the sound deformation took place without an abrupt failure of the sample if the inner angle would be greater than $135^{\circ}$ in this study, when the channel diameter of the SD die was reduced from 10 to 9 mm. Microstructural observation showed that the inner angle of $135^{\circ}$ was found to be more effective than that of $150^{\circ}$ in terms of the alignment of each grain to the shear direction imposed by SD method. In addition, the yield strength of the SD-deformed sample was twice higher than that of the initial counterpart while loosing ductility in tension.

A Study on the Press Forming by Rectangular Tube of Al6063 Alloys (Al6063 합금 중공각재 튜브에 의한 프레스 성형 연구)

  • In this study, a method for the press forming of rectangular aluminium tube has been proposed. Rectangular aluminium tube has high stiff as the cold steel which can be lighter over 30% weight. It is increased every year by being recycled over 80%. Press die consists of punch, wing-die and holder for aluminium tube bending. When punch is applied with aluminium tube, holder is operated as same punch and wing-die is rotated through hinge. Stress-strain relations and springback are considered by bending angle of aluminium tube. In this study, the behaviors on tubes of square aluminium and rectangular aluminium with different thickness and area are established by the analysis of $DEFORM^{TM}$-3D program. Reducing fuel consumption is expected by using the aluminium tube deformation and it becomes the lightweight through recycling.
