Carbon-epoxy prepreg has been introduced in the forming of the upper and lower swash plates that control the pitch of rotor blade of unmanned helicopter because of its lightweight. Taguchi experimental method has been used by introducing the variables such as arrangement angle, laminated number and forming temperature, in order to obtain the proper forming method by using prepreg satisfying the required strength of the swash plate. In the evaluation of structural safety for the swash plates, three kinds of models are considered by using FE-analysis. In comparison of the hot forged products with Al6061-T6 and the formed products with prepreg, it was found that ultimate tensile strength of the products with prepreg is three times higher than that of the Al6061-T6, and the weight reduction of 68.5g can be achieved by using prepreg swash plates.
Recently, 5000 series and 6000 series Al alloys have been used as hull materials for small and medium-sized ships because of their excellent weldability, corrosion resistance, and durability in marine environments. Al ships can navigate at high speed due to their light weight. However, cavitation-erosion problems cause reducing durability of Al ship at high speed. In this investigation, 5052-O, 5083-H321, and 6061-T6 Al alloy materials were used to evaluate the damage characteristics with amplitude (cavitation strength). As a result of the electrochemical experiments, the corrosion current density and corrosion potential of 6061-T6 in seawater were 8.52 × 10-7 A/㎠ and -0.771 V, respectively, presenting the best corrosion resistance. The cavitation-erosion experiment showed that 5052-O had the lowest hardness value and cavitation-erosion resistance. 5052-O also had a very short incubation period. As the experiment progressed for 5052-O, pitting formed and grew in a short time, and was observed as severe cavitation-erosion damage that eliminated in large quantities. Among the three specimens, 5083-H321 presented the highest hardness value and the damage rate was the smallest after the initiation of pitting.

In this study, the characteristics of aluminum tube hydroformed products at different extrusion type and heat treatment conditions were investigated. For the investigation, as-extruded, full annealed and T6-treated Al 6061 tubes at different extrusion type were prepared. To evaluate the hydroformability, free bulge test was performed at room temperature to $300^{\circ}C$. Also mechanical properties of hydroformed products at various pre- and post-heat treatments were estimated by hexagonal prototype hydroforming test at $250^{\circ}C$. And the tensile test specimens were obtained from hexagonal prototype hydroformed tube. As a results, hydroformability of full annealed tube is $5{\sim}8%$ higher than that of extruded and T6-treated tube. The tensile strength and elongation of T6-post heat treated indirect extrusion tube were more than 330MPa and 12%, respectively. However, T6 pre treated hydroformed product represents high strength, 330MPa and low elongation, 8%. Therefore, Hydroformability of Al6061 tube showed similar value for both extrusion types. However flow stress of direct tube showed $20{\sim}50MPa$ lower value than indirect tube.

Due to the development of high-strength fibers and adhesives, it is now possible to repair cracked metallic plates by bonding reinforced patches to the plate over the crack. In this study, pre-cracked aluminum 6061-T6 alloy plates repaired with bonded carbon/epoxy composite patch are applied to investigate the effect of various patch shapes on the tensile strength and the fatigue behavior of the structure. A non-patch-boned cased and 2 type-50$\times$50, 40$\times$20 mm-composite patch-bonded cases were tested to obtain fracture loads and fatigue crack growth rate. The results showed that the patch-bonded repair improves the static strength by 17% and the fatigue life by 200% compared to non-repaired case. It means that patch-boned repair is more effective in the fatigue life. It was also revealed that the patching method along crack growth direction is more efficient in cost and weight reduction. By observing the fractography, patch-bonded repair specimens demonstrated zigzag fracture patterns compared with the non-patched specimens, which shows a typical ductile fracture.

In this study, the corrosion resistance by salt spray was evaluated using A6061-T6 for an electric vehicle battery pack case coated with an organic/inorganic hybrid solution. The lowest curing temperature of 190 ℃ resulted in significant corrosion and pitting. Meanwhile, no corrosion was observed in the coated specimens at 210 ℃ and 230 ℃ except at 210 ℃ - 6 min and 8 min. The surface of the as-received coating specimen observed by FE-SEM exhibited streaks and dents in the rolling direction, but the coating surface was clean. On the 190 ℃ - 6 min coating specimen, which had a lot of corrosion, rolling streaks spread, and dents were caused by corrosion. The 200 ℃ - 12 min coating specimen did not show corrosion, but it showed an etched surface. In the line profile, Si, the main component of the coating solution, was detected the most, and Ti was also detected. In the coating specimens with salt spray, O increased and Si decreased, regardless of corrosion. The peeling rate by adhesion evaluation was 26 - 87% for the 190 ℃ coating specimen, 4 - 83% for the 210 ℃ coating specimen, and 94 - 100% for the 230 ℃ coating specimen. The optimal curing conditions for the coating solution used in this study were 210 ℃ for 10 min.
A cold roll-bonding process was applied to fabricate an AA1050/AA6061/AA1050 laminate complex sheet. Two AA1050 and one AA6061 sheets of 2 mm thickness, 40 mm width and 300 mm length were stacked up after surface treatment that included degreasing and wire brushing; material was then reduced to a thickness of 3 mm by one-pass cold rolling. The laminate sheet bonded by the rolling was further reduced to 1.2 mm in thickness by conventional rolling. The rolling was performed at ambient temperature without lubricant using a 2-high mill with a roll diameter of 210 mm. The rolling speed was 5.0 m/sec. The AA1050/AA6061/AA1050 laminate complex sheet fabricated by roll bonding was then hardened by natural aging T4) and artificial aging (T6) treatments. The microstructures of the as-roll bonded and the age hardened Al complex sheets were revealed by optical microscope observation; the mechanical properties were investigated by tensile testing and hardness testing. The strength of the as-roll bonded complex sheet was found to increase by 2.9 times compared to that value of the starting material. In addition, the hardness of the complex sheets increased with cold rolling for AA1050 and age-hardening treatment for AA6061, respectively. After heat treatment, both AA1050 and AA6061 showed typical recrystallization structures in which the grains were equiaxed; however, the grain size was smaller in AA6061 than in AA1050.

An energy-based fatigue life prediction framework was previously developed by the authors for prediction of axial, bending and shear fatigue life at various stress ratios. The framework for the prediction of fatigue life via energy analysis was based on a new constitutive law, which states the following: the amount of energy required to fracture a material is constant. In the first part of this study, energy expressions that construct the constitutive law are equated in the form of total strain energy and the distortion energy dissipated in a fatigue cycle. The resulting equation is further evaluated to acquire the equivalent stress per cycle using energy based methodologies. The equivalent stress expressions are developed both for biaxial and multiaxial fatigue loads and are used to predict the number of cycles to failure based on previously developed prediction criterion. The equivalent stress expressions developed in this study are further used in a new finite element procedure to predict the fatigue life for two and three dimensional structures. In the second part of this study, a new Quadrilateral fatigue finite element is developed through integration of constitutive law into minimum potential energy formulation. This new QUAD-4 element is capable of simulating biaxial fatigue problems. The final output of this finite element analysis both using equivalent stress approach and using the new QUAD-4 fatigue element, is in the form of number of cycles to failure for each element on a scale in ascending or descending order. Therefore, the new finite element framework can provide the number of cycles to failure at each location in gas turbine engine structural components. In order to obtain experimental data for comparison, an Al6061-T6 plate is tested using a previously developed vibration based testing framework. The finite element analysis is performed for Al6061-T6 aluminum and the results are compared with experimental results.
Materials used for education include SM20C, Al6061, and acrylic. SM20C materials are used a lot in certification tests and functional competitions as carbon steel, but they are also used in industrial sites. Al6061 is said to be a material that produces a lot of tools because it has lower hardness than carbon steel and is highly flexible. When practical guidance is given to students using acrylic materials, it is a material that causes vibration and tool damage due to excessive cutting. In this process, we examine how impact on the 5-axis equipment 2NC head can affect precision control. The weakest part of a five-axis equipment is the head that controls the AC axis. In the event of precision and cumulative tolerances in this area, the precision of all products is reduced. Thus, a key part of the 2NC head, the spindle housing was carried out using Al7075 T6 (U.S. Alcoasa) material and the entire body using FCD450 (spherical graphite cast iron). In the vibration and cutting process acting on these two materials, the analysis was carried out to determine the value of applying the force as a finite element analysis under extreme conditions. We hope that using these analytical data will help students see and understand the structure of 5-axis machining rather than 5-axis cutting.
Materials used for education are materials such as SM20C, Al6061, and acrylic. SM20C materials are carbon steel and are often used in certification tests and functional competitions, but are also widely used in industrial sites. The Al6061 material is said to be a material that has lower hardness and stronger flexibility than carbon steel, so it is a material that generates a lot of compositional selection of tools. If students are taught practical training using acrylic materials, vibration occurs due to excessive cutting in some parts and damage to the tool occurs. In this process, we examine to what extent the impact on the 2NC head, which is a five-axis equipment, can affect precision control. The weakest part of the five-axis equipment can be said to be the weakest part of the head that controls the AC axis. When the accuracy and cumulative tolerance of this part occur, the accuracy of all products decreases. Therefore, the core part of the 2NC head, the spindle housing, was carried out using an Al7075 T6 (Alcoa, USA) material. In the process of vibration and cutting applied to this material, the analysis was conducted to find out the value applied to the finite element analysis under extreme conditions. It is hoped that this analysis data will help students see and understand the structure of 5-axis machining rather than 5-axis cutting.
