In order to protect lives and prevent large-scale injuries in the event of a fire on a ship or an offshore plant, most classification societies are strengthening their fire resistance designs of relevant cargo holds and accommodation compartments to keep flames from being transferred from a fire point to other compartments. Particularly in critical compartments, where flames should not propagate for a certain period of time, such as the A60 class division, both the airtightness and fire-resistant design of a piece passing through a bulkhead are subject to the Safety of Life at Sea Convention (SOLAS) issued by the International Maritime Organization (IMO). In order to verify the suitability of a fire-resistant design for such a penetrating piece, the fire test procedure prescribed by the Maritime Safety Committee (MSC) must be carried out. However, a numerical simulation should first be conducted to minimize the time and cost of the fire resistance test. In this study, transient thermal analyses based on the finite element method were applied to investigate the heat transfer characteristics of a bulkhead penetration piece for the A60 class compartment. In order to determine a rational bulkhead penetration piece design, the transient heat transfer characteristics according to the variation of design parameters such as the diameter, length, and material were reviewed. The verification of the design specification based on a numerical analysis of the transient heat transfer performed in this study will be discussed in the following research paper for the actual fire protection test of the A60 class bulkhead penetration piece.

The demand for the development of rolling stock technology to maintain the best performance in various climatic environments has increased to expand the overseas market of rolling stock. In this study, international and domestic standards that must be applied to build a harsh climatic environment test system were investigated and compared. The way of improvement for domestic standards is proposed. The wind velocities and temperatures are specified in the UIC, EN, and IEC standards for climatic wind tunnel, and EN 50125-1 provides the velocity test up to 180km/h, the largest wind speed. UIC and EN provide the lowest temperature of -45℃, and IEC 62498-1 provides the highest temperature 55℃. The solar radiation test was specified up to 1200W/m2 in the UIC, EN, and IEC. The IEC, EN, and KS R 9145 provide the water tightness standards, which are different from each other in water capacity, pressure, and methods. The snow test method was not well specified. KRTS-VE-Part 31 provides pressurization test methods. The airtightness standards for high-speed rolling stock are defined and regulated for internal pressure change rate in UIC 660 and 779-11. The domestic standard for the wind tunnel test was not well prepared, and the solar radiation test and snow test do not exist in Korea. Therefore, it is necessary to improve domestic standards to an international level for the climatic wind tunnel test of rolling stock.

Tightness performance that blocks compartments is important for surface ships to achieve superior mission performance and survivability in combat environments. To meet the above requirements, airtightness of the structural elements and the appropriate strength to specific areas are checked during a test run after ship construction. In particular, air tests of compartments adjacent to the water surface are performed. In an air test, air is injected into the compartment up to the test pressure of the test memo. The pressure drop value is checked after 10 minutes to determine if the requirements of the corresponding area are satisfied. In summer, however, when the influence of the outside temperature is large, a phenomenon in which the internal pressure increases during the air test was identified. This phenomenon reduces the reliability of the test result. Therefore, a system was designed to compensate for temperature changes in the compartments through this study. The developed system calculates the amount of pressure change caused by a temperature change in the compartment and outputs a correction value. The pressure change was calculated using the ideal gas equation, reflecting the maintenance, increase, and decrease in temperature during the test process. A comparison of the calculated pressure correction value with the database of NIST REFPROP revealed a difference of 0.126% to a maximum of 0.253%.
The air-cooled proton exchange membrane fuel cells (PEMFC) stacks, which is widely used in small-sized PEMFC, have a problem in that durability is weaker than that of the water-cooled type. Because the cathode is open to the atmosphere and the structural problem of the air-cooled stack, which is difficult to maintain airtightness, is highly likely to form a hydrogen/air boundary during start-up/shut-down (SU/SD). Through the accelerated durability evaluation of the 20 W air-cooled PEMFC stack, the purpose of this study was to find out the cause of the degradation of the stack and to contribute to the improvement of the durability of the air-cooled PEMFC stack. In this study, it was possible to evaluate durability in a relatively short time by reducing 20-30% of initial performance by repeating SU/SD 1,000 to 1,200 times on an air-cooled PEMFC stack. After disassembling the stack, each cell was divided into two and the performance analysis showed that the electrode degradation was more severe in the anode outlet membrane electrode assembly (MEA), which facilitates air inflow as a whole, than in the inlet MEA. It was shown that the cathode Pt was dissolved/precipitated to deteriorate the polymer ionomer inside the membrane.

In this study, shape design and material selection were carried out for a two-stage pressure-reducing regulator to compensate for the shortcomings of a one-stage mechanical decompression regulator. The shape of the contact surface of the depressurization unit was considered, material was selected, and the shape was designed to compensate for the pulsation and slow response through the two-stage decompression and to solve the problem of high pressure deviation. In terms of airtightness, the deformation amount of TPU showed a small amount of displacement of up to 15.82%. Considering the fact that it is applicable to various hydrogen fuel supply systems by securing universality by applying electronic solenoids to the second pressure reduction, magnetic materials were selected. The hydrogen embrittlement and corrosion resistance were evaluated to verify the plating process. Surface corrosion did not occur in only the case of Cr plating. The elongation during the corrosion process was compared using a tensile test, and there was a difference within 2%.
Cathode open-type PEMFC (Proton Exchange Membrane Fuel Cells) stacks, which are widely used in small transport-type PEMFC, have a problem with poor durability. Through the accelerated durability test of the 13-cell PEMFC stack, we tried to find the cause of the degradation of the stack and to contribute to the improvement of the durability of the cathode open stack. A hydrogen/air boundary is formed during start-up/shut-down (SU/SD) due to the structural problem of the cathode open stack in which the cathode is open to the atmosphere and it is difficult to maintain airtightness, thereby deteriorating the cathode. In this study, it was possible to evaluate the durability in a relatively short time by reducing the 54% of the initial performance by repeating SU/SD 1,800 times on the cathode open stack. After dismantling the stack, each cell was divided into two and the performance was analyzed. Overall, the anode outlet MEA, which facilitates air inflow, showed more severe electrode deterioration than the inlet MEA, confirming that the hydrogen/air boundary formation during SU/SD is the main cause of degradation.
PE piping, which has advantages in terms of construction convenience and economy, is widely used for underground burial in the domestic urban gas field. These PE pipes use squeeze-off in many sites to block gas flow during maintenance and repair work. Squeeze-off refers to a method of compressing a PE pipe to block fluid flow, and damage may occur due to the nature of construction in which the pipe is deformed by physical force. In order to prevent damage to PE pipes due to squeeze-off, the main points to be reflected in the squeeze-off operation procedures such as proper compression range, use pressure, and diameter were derived through damage assessment and confidential test according to the compression rate. The compression experiment for PE pipe damage assessment was conducted while changing the compression rate (20%~40%), the pressure of use (2.8 kPa, 25 kPa, 70 kPa), and the pipe diameters (63 mm, 90 mm, 110 mm). As a result of damage assessment according to the compression rate, damage occurred in pipes with compression rates of 45%(110mm) and 73%(63mm), which are for analyzing the effect of excessive compression. In addition, the leakage test was conducted using Ar(argon) during the squeeze-off, and as a result of the experiment, leakage occurred under the conditions of 70kPa and 110mm of pipe. As a result of this study, it was confirmed that squeeze-off for airtightness should be carried out in pipes within a range not exceeding 25 kPa and 90 mm pipes, and the appropriate compression rate to prevent damage to PE pipes is 30%.
This study is to analyze the characteristics of the yellow insulation ring type of the CSST used for tubing when it is artificially deteriorated and damaged by burning. The CSST for tubing consists of a tube, protective coating, nut, yellow insulation ring, packing, and socket. In addition, it is thought that a yellow insulation ring and rubber packing were used to connect the tube and socket in order to improve the airtightness and insulation performance. The result of the verification of the data acquired from the tests in the 95% confidence interval shows that the Anderson-Darling (AD) and P value were analyzed to be 0.945 and 0.015, respectively. This confirms that the test data of the CSST for tubing is reliable. The analysis of the arithmetic mean of the insulation resistance of a CSST showed that the CSST damaged by burning by a torch, and the one damaged by electrical burning, was $16.7k{\Omega}$ (the greatest relatively) and $208{\Omega}$ (the lowest), respectively, while it was $1.72k{\Omega}$ in the case of a normal product. Therefore, the analysis result of the insulation resistance of the CSST collected from the scene of a fire can be utilized to examine the cause of damage by burning. In addition, it was found that when the maximum current of 97 A was applied to the CSST for about 5 s using a Primary Current Injection Test System (PCITS) the protective film and insulation ring of the CSST has no difference from that of a normal product. However, a part of the metal tube was melted.
The construction of experimental greenhouses, operating test, and analysis on variation of different environment factors were conducted to provide fundamental data for design of Korean style air-inflated double-layer plastic greenhouse. The development of technology of attaching plastic to the structure and fasteners to be able to keep airtight was required in order to maintain proper static pressure in air space of double layer coverings. The insulation effect of air inflated greenhouse was better than conventional type. The temperature of arch type roof was greater about $2^{\circ}C$ than peach type roof in air inflated greenhouse. It was recommended that the plastic should be attached at the edges without clearance length in order to ease installation and raise airtightness of double layer coverings. The transmittance of arch type roof was greater than peach type in air inflated one span greenhouse. The transmittance of air inflated greenhouse was greater than conventional type due to frame ratio and distance between double layers in three span greenhouse. The condensation occurred on conventional type greenhouse was more than air inflated type. It was required to examine for a long time in order to analyze it quantitatively.

The purpose of this study is to measure and analyze primary causes of indoor air pollution, including carbon dioxide, minute dust, and total volatile organic compounds, for each room before the beginning of a class through the time of discharge after the end of the class in general classrooms, computer rooms, and science rooms of three newly-established schools that opened in 2006, examine properties of indoor air environment in each room by educational activities at school, and determine effective management schemes; the results of this study can be summarized as follows: 1) As for implications for each item found in the mean for each place, since minute dust (PM10) was more likely to occur in time slots full of students' activities, such as a traveling class and a recess, than in the middle of a class and could be expected fully, it is necessary to make a scheme for cleaning in order to reduce minute dust within a room, for example, by usually using a vacuum cleaner indoors. 2) While carbon dioxide was expected to vary with the differences in the amount of breath between higher-graders and lower-graders in a general classroom but showed insignificant difference by grades, showing differences in pollution by four times at a maximum according to the opening of a window as expected, it is necessary to implement artificial or natural ventilation and take a positive measure, for example, by presenting a concrete ventilation scheme, in order to improve indoor air pollution at a room practice. 3) Total volatile organic compounds were found to exceed the standard by more than twice in general classrooms, science rooms, and computer rooms of the schools because of building materials, furnitures including desks and chairs, panels and boards for environment beautification, and items which could be detected even from students' clothes; while a field directly-reading tool was used, obtaining high reliability for the results, it is necessary to apply an analytical method based on process test separately for actual correct measurement if a significantly great amount of total volatile organic compounds appear as compared with other schools due to measuring expenses and consecutive measurements. 4) Since formaldehyde (HCHO) was generally found to exceed the standard in general classrooms, science rooms, and computer rooms, it is necessary to establish and operate a ventilator during a class in a computer room which requires airtightness and a science room in which an organic compound should be used for a class.
