규제정책의 관점에서 바라본 온실가스(GHG) 배출권거래제가 국내 항공운송산업에 미치는 영향 (The Impact of GHG Emission Trading System on Air Transport Industry and Implication in View of Regulatory Policy)

  • The emission trading system implemented in Korea is a system in which the government allocates or sells emission rights by setting the emission allowable amount to economic players subject to the emission trading system, allowing companies to freely trade shortfall or extra money through the emission trading market. Korea also had implemented its first emission trading system scheme period of time from 2015 to 2017. As a result of the first planning period in which total of seven Korean airlines were targeted, the emission amount was about 5.51 million KAU, while the quota amount was only about 4.85 million KAU, about 116% of the actual quota was emitted and Domestic airlines have incurred additional costs of about 10.7 billion won. Due to ICAO's implementation of CORSIA, the airlines are expected to have to shoulder additional costs because purchasing exceed quota will be increased in order to offset excess emissions not only on domestic but also on international routes. Thus, this paper had analyzed the characteristics of the carbon trading system of air transport industry and suggested a mix of regulatory policies as an improvement method.

SNS 리뷰데이터의 활용 : 저가항공사와 대형항공사를 중심으로 (Utilization of SNS Review Data for a Comparison between Low Cost Carrier and Full Service Carrier)

  • There exist a number of studies pertaining to the determinants of customer satisfaction between low-cost and full-service carriers in the airline industry. Most studies measured service quality using SERVQUAL based on a survey method. This study offers a new perspective by employing a big data analytic approach using SNS data, which reflects the immediate response of customers as well as trends in real time. This study chose eight factors from TripAdvisor's customer review site as determinants of customer satisfaction and compared the differences between low-cost and full-service airlines. The factors analyzed were seat comfort, customer service, cleanliness, food and beverage, legroom, entertainment, value for money, and check-in and boarding. Additionally, ratings from domestic and foreign customers were compared. The findings show that customer service and value for money are significant factors in satisfaction with low-cost airlines while all variables except legroom and entertainment are significant for full-service airlines. The results show that SNS-based data and analysis of big data are important for improving decision-making effectiveness and increasing customer satisfaction in the airline industry.

  • With the progress and prosperity of commerce and industry, time and money increasingly form an equal partnership. Using air carriers to shorten the round-trip time has become an important choice for many people in the tourism process. Faced with increasing competition within the aviation service environment, airline evaluation criteria and the requirements of customers are gradually dominating the evaluation mechanism for air transport service quality. Over the past few years, attention on the transport quality of service has been primarily focused more on land-based transport, and less on the relevant evaluation criteria of airlines. Many studies have shown that quality of service will directly affect customer satisfaction, resulting in the fact that good quality aviation services have become increasingly important. Therefore, in practical industrial operations with limited resources, there is an urgent need to delve into the assessment guidelines that have an impact on customers when they choose an airline, which can be used as a basis for improving customer satisfaction. Through a literature review and a reliability and validity analysis, this study summarized 19 evaluation criteria, using the purposive sampling method and the decision laboratory method (DEMATEL). In addition, this study viewed the causal relationship between the evaluation criteria and the degree of association as a continuing project for airlines. This study selected appropriate empirical samples from two domestic airlines. The conclusions may provide recommendations for all airlines.

부품공유를 통한 저가항공사의 효율성 향상 방안 연구 (A study on Improving Operation Efficiency of LCC through Parts Pooling)

  • Passengers and Airlines wish neither delay nor cancellation due to aircraft defects. However, about 1 delay or cancellation case occurs out of 100 departures worldwide whereas 1 quarter case does in Korean domestic industry. Independent LCC carriers in Korea have almost double case. Most cases are recovered by replacing aircraft components. Airlines have prepared the spare components based on the reliability data by manufacturers to rectify defects or perform preventive maintenances. The total value for initial spares including engine is 40% of the aircraft price when they operate less than 5 aircraft. The more airlines operate the aircraft, the less the ratio of the investment for spares reflecting the economy of scale. This study intends to suggest how to improve the efficiencies as well as the safety of LCC throughout parts pooling including engines.

  • In recent years, Korea's aviation industry has been developing rapidly due to the emergence of low-cost airlines. In order to survive in such competition, airlines are making various efforts to save the operation cost as much as possible. Fuel costs account for more than 25% of operating costs. For airlines, reducing aircraft fuel costs is an important part of improving profitability. In this study, analyzing the difference weight between flightplan and W&B Manifest for calculated the fuel that was unnecessarily loaded. As a method to calculate the unnecessary fuel was used by Airbus company flight planning program.

항공사에 대한 온라인 구전이 승객행동에 미치는 영향에 관한 연구 (The Influence of EWOM on Passengers' Behavioral Intentions)

  • The ultimate aim of this research is to analyze the effects of on-line word of mouth (WOM) regarding airlines on behavior intention of airline passengers through information accommodation, attitude and trust. For the purpose, we have carried out a questionnaire survey with passengers who have used airline social media and websites as target, and analyzed a total of 362 copies of the questionnaire using structural equation. As a result of analysis, on-line WOM turned out to have a significant effect on accommodation, and the accommodation turned out to have significant effects on attitude and trust. Also, attitude turned out to have a significant effect on trust, and the trust turned out to have a significant effect on behavior intention. This research has significance in that it can help establish a WOM marketing strategy of airlines through grasping the actual situation of on-line WOM of airlines and present a possibility of WOM marketing utilizing social media as an appropriate marketing for aviation industry. At the same time, it also has an academic significance in that it predicted actual behavior intention of passengers who have used on-line WOM on airlines.

A Study on Pilots' Behavior on Decision of Maneuvering Aircraft for Fuel Efficient Flight Operation

  • The response to climate change of international air transport industry might be initiated by ICAO's CORSIA (Carbon Offsetting and Reduction Scheme for International Aviation) which will impact on international airlines' flight operation behavior in the future. Though the airlines' efforts to reduce fuel consumption has been a major issue in economics of aviation industry, the improvement of fuel efficiency in flight operation will have additional impact on their profitability by introducing carbon emission cost. The fuel consumption in flight operation will be somewhat influenced by pilots' technical action for maneuvering aircraft during flight operation. This study will investigate pilots' behavior on decision for tactical aircraft control for mission flight. The data will be collected by the survey through sample pilots asking about their intention and perception on fuel savings during flight operations. The data will be analyzed by AHP process and the study will find out the elements and factors influencing pilots' behavior on technical decision of flight and their weights on fuel saving effects.

Decomposing Relationship between Safety Climate, Safety Perception, and Safety Behavior in Airline Industry

  • This research aims to investigate the relationship between safety climate and safety perception and safety behavior. Safety perception of the relationship is considered to have a mediating effect. Previous literature has tended to regard safety perception as an independent variable at the same level as the safety climate, which can be said to depend on behavioralism to approach the causal relationship to an one-way perspective. The survey was administrated through full- service carries in Korea such as Korean Air and Asiana Airlines, and low-cost carriers such as JeJu air, Jin air, and Air Pusan. It can identify a mediator of safety perception between safety climate and safety behavior. There are significant indirect effects of each value, which means mediators values of safety perception of safety climate variables and safety behavior. The study highlights that airlines should focus on the importance of their psychological aspects to strengthen the safety behavior of flight attendants and the value of organizational efforts to mature safety perceptions, suggesting some implications of theoretical and practical aspects.

주요 항공사별 여객의 변동률 및 방향성 연구 (A Study on the Rate of Change and Direction of Passengers by Major Airlines)

  • 본 연구 목적은 주요 항공사별 여객의 동향과 변동률을 도출하고 방향성과 동조화현상을 파악하는데 있다. 통계청 국가통계포럼에서 항공사별 자료를 수집하고 2011년 1월부터 2023년 11월까지 총 155개 월간자료를 활용하였다. 국내 대형항공사인 대한항공과 아시아나항공, 저비용항공사인 제주항공, 진에어, 티웨이 그리고 외국항공사를 대상으로 변동률을 산출하였다. 분석결과, 상관관계분석은 한국 총 여객에 대해 아시아나, 대한항공, 제주항공, 티웨이, 진에어, 외항사 순으로 높게 나타났다. 상승률은 티웨이, 진에어, 제주항공, 외항사, 아시아나, 대한항공 순으로 높게 나타났다. Scatter 분석에서 한국 총 여객에 대해 아시아나와 대한항공이 매우 강한 동조화현상을 보여주었고, 제주항공, 티웨이, 진에어, 외항사은 일정 수준 유사한 방향성을 보여주었다. Box-Box Plot 분석에서, 각 항공사는 코로나 19 발생으로 일시적인 급등락현상이 다수 발생하였던 것으로 보였다. 저비용항공사의 출현으로 승객 입장에서는 선택의 폭이 넓어지면서 서비스에 대한 기대감이 커질 것이고 그럴수록 항공사 간 경쟁이 높아질 것으로 보여 기업 발전을 위해 이를 만족시킬 수 있는 환경개선이 뒤따라야 할 것이다.

동북아 항공물류허브을 구축하기 위한 다자적 접근방안 (Multilateral Approach to forming Air Logistics Hub on North East Asia Region)

  • 동북아 항공운송시장에서는 중국시장의 개방으로 항공운송시장이 전에 없는 급팽창을 하고 있으며, 전 세계 항공운송시장에서 아시아-태평양의 비중이 커지고 있다. 향후 점차적으로 확대될 이 지역의 인적, 물적, 서비스 그리고 정보의 교류를 위해서는 동북아 역내에서 보다 자유로운 항공편의 연결이 필요하다. 이런 측면에서 이 글에서는 지역 내 항공운송시장 통합을 위한 동북아 항공운송시장에 적용 가능한 대안을 제시하였다. 첫째, 각 국의 국내 항공운송시장에 대한 정책 변화가 필요하고, 둘째, 각 국 국내시장의 자유화 정책의 확대, 셋째, 동북아 지역 내의 양자협정의 보다 자유로운 항공협정의 체결이 필요 넷째, 동북아 항공시장에 참여하고 있는 각 국 항공사 간 전략적제휴의 확대, 다섯째, 경쟁력 있는 공항 및 노선 또는 저수요 노선부터 단계적으로 자유화 실시, 여섯째, 동북아 3 국의 주요 공항 간 셔틀 운영 필요, 일곱째, 동북아 삼국간 국제표준의 항공안전 및 보안체계의 공동 구축, 여덟째, 항공 외의 분야에서 우선적 자유화 추진, 마지막으로 아시아-태평양 지역 민간항공기구의 설립과 한, 중, 일간의 협의기구를 설립하여 각 국이 정기적으로 항공운송시장의 통합과 자유화에 대한 의견 개진을 통한 점진적인 자유화를 유도해야 할 것이다. 동북아에서 항공자유화를 위한 단기적 차원의 진전은 어려울 것이다. 그러나 중국 항공사의 계속적인 성장과 일본계 항공사들의 저비용 구조화에 대한 진전이 이루어질 경우 의외로 조속한 항공운송시장의 통합이 이루어질 수 도 있다. 항공운송시장은 과거 25년간 대변혁의 과정을 겪었다. 대 변혁의 과정 중에 가장 크게 영향을 미친것은 자유화였으며, 그 결과로 요금은 인하되고, 항공수요는 증가하였다. 이로써 침체되어있던 항공운송산업은 새로운 성장 산업으로 등장하게 되었다. 자유화 정책의 확대 추진을 통해서 만이 지역 내 교류를 활성화 할 수 있으며, 이를 주도한 국가가 지역의 중심으로서 역할을 수행할 수 있을 것이다.
