A Study on the Pilot Qualification and Qualification System Establishment of The Aerospace Composite Materials

  • The materials applied to the aircraft fuselage, parts, and components must be verified by relative authorities in accordance with the procedures set by the airworthiness authority to achieve the aircraft type certification. There are no examples of domestic composite materials which were verified in order to be applied to aircraft structure. In this study, the composite material certification system of NCAMP, an American composite material standard certification organization, was reviewed and used as the fundamentals of the first aerospace composite material certification system in ROK(Fig 2,8). Also updated material certification documents were developed and confirmed by material certification engineers and inspectors. This aerospace composite material qualification system is intended to modernize the material certification system for AAM(Advanced Air Mobility) as well as aircraft and to enhance the understanding of related technicians and inspectors.

복합재항공기 연료시스템의 낙뢰보호설계 및 인증 연구 (Research on Aircraft Lightning Protection Design and Certification of Fuel System in Composite Material)

  • Lightning protective design of an aircraft fuel system is closely related to the safety of the flight. Recently, composite material in building an aircraft becomes more important because it can reduce the weight of the aircraft. The composite materials decrease the protection against the effect of lightning. Lightning protective design of metal material aircraft has been researched for a long time and the design technique has been announced widely. However, research on the lightning protective design using composite material aircraft is very limited. In this study, lightning protective design for fuel tank structural component, access cover, fuel filler cap and drain valve in carbon fiber composite material aircraft have been presented. To show the compliance with FAA airworthiness standard regarding the presented protection designs, three steps, including lightning strike analysis, lightning environment analysis and certification test, were conducted in accordance with FAA AC 20-53.

  • Since the time, cost and lack of regulatory information and guidance, one of the largest regulatory obstacles for an airframe manufacturer of polymer based advanced composite materials in certified aircraft applications, is to generate design allowables that will satisfy Airworthiness Regulations. In the past two decades, the design allowables used in military aircraft had been generated and applied in Korea, however the qualification of composite materials used in certifying airframe structure was not accomplished for design and demonstration of compliance to applicable airworthiness regulation. It is the intend of this paper that provide the basis of composite material qualification for small aircraft certification to the airworthiness regulation.

  • 전 세계적으로 도심항공교통이 미래 혁신산업으로 주목받고 있으며 국내/외 유수의 산업체들은 신개념의 전기동력 수직이착륙 항공기 설계 및 제작에 구조적 강건성과 경량화를 위해 복합재료의 적용을 고려하고 있다. 본 논문에서는 신개념의 전기동력 수직이착륙 항공기에 복합재료를 적용하기 위하여 항공선진국의 복합재료 인증체계 및 국내 실정에 적합한 항공용 복합재료 인증 절차 및 방법, 재료 입증을 수행할 조직구성 등 항공안전기본계획에 의해 제도화된 복합재료 인증체계에 대해 분석하였다. 국내에서 수립된 항공용 복합재료 인증체계에 의해 신개념의 전기동력 수직이착륙 항공기 제작사는 사전 소재인증을 통해 국산 항공기에 복합재료를 적용하는 것이 용이해졌을 뿐만 아니라 형식증명 기간 내에 소재 입증에 대한 부담이 감소할 것이다. 또한, 재료 품질 및 성능이 입증된 국산 복합재료의 제작사는 국산 항공기 적용을 위한 진입이 수월할 것이며 항공기에 적용한 경험이 있는 재료 제작사는 해외 수출에도 긍정적인 영향을 미칠 것이다. 이를 통해 신개념의 전기동력 수직이착륙 항공기 산업발전을 도모하고 국내에서 제작된 기체의 국제적 신인도 제고를 기대할 수 있을 것이다.

  • 항공기에 사용되는 복합소재는 항공기의 감항성 확보를 위하여 인증된 소재를 사용해야 하며 소재의 물리적 특성 및 공정을 확인하여 재료규격 및 공정규격서등의 인증 문서와 시스템을 승인하는 방식으로 인증이 진행된다. 국내 복합소재 인증시스템은 국토교통부의 항공기용 복합재료 시범인증 사업을 통해 마련되었으며 현재 항공기 전문검사기관인 항공안전기술원에서 인증 및 공유 데이터시스템을 구축하여 운영하고 있다. 본 논문은 실증을 바탕으로 구축된 항공기용 복합소재 인증체계의 개선사항을 식별하고 이에 대한 개선 방안 도출을 통해 국산 항공기용 복합소재의 인증 및 산업 활성화 방안을 제시하였다.

  • Composite materials are widely used as structural materials for manufacturing an aircraft, due to their : low weight, low thermal expansion coefficient, production efficiency, anisotropy, corrosion resistance and long fatigue life. The range of using composite materials has been extended from the fuselage and the wings to the entire aircraft structure. In this paper, by analyzing the problems which were generated while designing and fabricating aircraft structures using composite materials, the differences between metallic structures and composite structures are described. In addition, the methodological improvement directions on design and fabricating are described.

  • During the operation of military aircraft, maintenance is divided into organizational, intermediate and depot maintenance. In the depot maintenance, after removal of major parts and removable doors, damage assessment is performed. Locating damage, charactering the damage and determining its extent, zoning the damage on the part being repaired and re-evaluation of the damaged area after damage removal. Repair joints are classified by bonded joints and bolted joints, depending on joining material. In this paper, repair method in aging aircraft is investigated and the possibility of application of copmposite patch is surveyed.

  • This paper examines the statistical process that should be performed with caution in the composite material qualification and equivalency process, and describes statistically significant considerations on outlier finding and handling process, data pooling through normalization process, review for data distributions and design allowables determination process for structural analysis. Based on these considerations, the need for guidance on statistical process for aircraft manufacturers who use the composite material properties database are proposed.

  • 그동안 소형항공기에 사용하는 재료에 대해서도 대형항공기와 동일하게 요구하여 왔으나, 대형항공기 제조사에 비해 규모가 작은 소형항공기 제조사에서는 이 기준을 맞추기 위하여 많은 시험을 수행해야 하므로 큰 어려움을 겪어왔다. 최근 미국 FAA/NASA에서는 새로운 정책으로 요구조건을 변경하여 복합재 소형항공기를 인증하여 소형항공기 산업을 발전시키고 있다. 본 논문에서는 새롭게 바뀐 복합재료 인증 방법론에 대하여 설명하고, 예로서 이 방법을 사용하여 국산 350°F 탄소섬유/에폭시 복합재료의 설계허용값을 산출하였다.

국산 복합재료 프리프레그 통계적 특성 (Statistical Characteristics of Domestic Composite Material Prepregs)

  • This study shows the statistical properties of the domestic composite material prepregs test result. During the last three years(2012.5~2015.6) the prepreg specimen tests have been performed by referring to NCAMP developed test procedure which was approved by FAA. The database of (1) Carbon Tape, (2) Glass Fabric, and (3) Carbon Fabric composite material prepregs' characteristics have been established for certified aircraft structures. This qualified materials can be used for aircraft structural design through proper material equivalency procedures.
