  • This paper presents a spiral descending path and a landing guidance law for net-recovery of a fixed-wing unmanned aerial vehicle. The net-recovery landing flight is divided into two phases. In the first phase, a spiral descending path is designed from an arbitrary initial position to a final approaching waypoint toward the recovery net. The flight path angle is controlled to be aligned to the approaching direction at the end of the spiral descent. In the second phase, the aircraft is guided from the approaching waypoint to the recovery net using a pseudo pursuit landing guidance law. Six degree-of-freedom simulation is performed to verify the performance of the proposed landing guidance law.

  • This paper presents the flight test procedure and the results for the airspeed indicator calibration of a light airplane the name of ChangGong-91, which is the first type certified aircraft from Korean Ministry of Construction and Transportation, as a part of the flight test validation to get the certification. The flight tests for airspeed position error calibrations are conducted using tower fly by method in order to calibrate swivel head testboom which is attached to the right wing tip of the airplane. Also system to system method is applied in order to calibrate the airspeed indicator of the cockpit. The flight test is conducted at the basis of the 'Korean Airworthiness Standard' which is the regulation of Korean Ministry of Construction and Transportation. The airspeed error range for the testboom and the airspeed indicator are determined to $-0.75{\sim}+0.75$ knot and to $-4.0{\sim}+2.0$ knots, respectively. The calibration results are applied to ChangGong-91 Flight Operation Manual.

  • We study the possibility of entering into helicopter market with respect to demand, industry structure and infrastructure. In conclusion, it is possible to enter into it based on domestic demand if we complement some technology, financial assistance system and helicopter operation related regulation. Strategy is made for helicopter industry to be a growth driver and then we suggest five projects to carry out it. Those are lasting creation of helicopter demand, possession of core part material and competitive technology, construction of airworthiness certification system and infrastructure for activation of helicopter operation, improvement of financial assistance system and finally strengthening policy modulation between civil, army, and government.

  • The self-excited vibrations of airfoil is related to the classical flutter problems, and it has been studied as a system with linear stiffness and small damping. However, since the actual aircraft wing and the many mechanical elements of airfoil type have various design variables and parameters, some of these could have strong nonlinearities, and the nonlinearities could be unexpectedly strong as the parameters vary. This abrupt chaotic behavior undergoes ordered routes, and the behaviors after these routes are uncontrollable and unexpectable since it is extremely sensitive to initial conditions. In order to study the chaotic behavior of the system, three parameters are considered, i.e., free-stream velocity, elastic distance and zero-lift angle. If the chaotic parameter region can be identified from the mathematically modeled nonlinear differential equation system, the designs which avoid chaotic regions could be suggested. In this study, by using recently developed dynamically system methods, and chaotic regions on the parameter plane will be found and the safe design variables will be suggested.

  • The material deficiencies in the form of pre-existing defects can initiated cracks and fractures. The stress distribution and fatigue crack initiation life of engineering materials may be associated with the size, the shape and the relative location of defects contained in the component. The objective of this study is to investigate the effect of arbitrarily located hole defect around the rivet hole of a wing section in monolithic aluminum and Al/GFRP laminates under cyclic bending moment during a service load. The stress distribution and the fatigue crack initiation behavior near a rivet hole of on the relationships between stress concentration factor ($K_t$) and relative position of defects were considered. The test results indicated the features of different stress field. Therefore, the stress concentration factor ($K_t$) and the fatigue crack initiation behavior was illustrated different behavior according to each position of hole defect around the rivet hole in monolithic aluminum and Al/GFRP laminates.

  • The main object of this study was evaluated by the delamination damage for fiber stacking angle. Therefore, this work need to compare the shape of delamination for a different fiber stacking angie. So this study uses a method of fatigue test which was created [0]$_2$,[+45]$_2$[90]$_2$. The extension of the delamination zone formed between aluminium alloy and glass fiber-adhesive layer were measured by an ultrasonic C-scan image. As a result, the shapes of delamination zone don't depend upon the crack propagation. We could know that the delamination zone grew interaction between stress flow of fiber layer and crack driving force. Hence, the existing study were applied to the stress transfer, fiber bridging effect, delaminantion growth rate should need to the develop useful factor because of change of fiber stacking angle.

  • The present paper is the follow-on of a former work in which the influence of the gas-surface interaction models was evaluated on the aerodynamic coefficients of an aero-space-plane and on a section of its wing. The models by Maxwell and by Cercignani-Lampis-Lord were compared by means of Direct Simulation Monte Carlo (DSMC) codes. In that paper the diffusive, fully accommodated, semi-specular and specular accommodation coefficients were considered. The results pointed out that the influence of the interaction models, considering the above mentioned accommodation coefficients, is pretty strong while the Cercignani-Lampis-Lord and the Maxwell models are practically equivalent. In the present paper, the comparison of the same models is carried out considering the dependence of the accommodation coefficients on the angle of incidence (or partial accommodation coefficients). More specifically, the normal and the tangential momentum partial accommodation coefficients, obtained experimentally by Knetchel and Pitts, have been implemented. Computer tests on a NACA-0012 airfoil have been carried out by the DSMC code DS2V-64 bits. The airfoil, of 2 m chord, has been tested both in clean and flapped configurations. The simulated conditions were those at an altitude of 100 km where the airfoil is in transitional regime. The results confirmed that the two interaction models are practically equivalent and verified that the use of the Knetchel and Pitts coefficients involves results very close to those computed considering a diffusive, fully accommodated interaction both in clean and flapped configurations.

  • The aim of this study is to apply shape optimization technique for the repair of aging airframe components, which may extend fatigue life substantially. Free-form optimum shapes of a cracked part to be reworked or replaced are investigated with the objective to minimize the peak local stress concentration or fatigue-damage. Iterative non-gradient method, which is based on an analogy with biological growth, is employed by incorporating the robust optimization method to take account of the stochastic nature of the loading conditions. Numerical examples of optimal hole shape in a flat plate are presented to validate the proposed method. The method is then applied to determine the reworked or replacement shape for the repair of a cracked rib in the rear assembly wing body of aircraft.

  • Smart UAV, which adopting tiltrotor aircraft concept, requires vertical take-off and landing, long endurance and high speed capability. These contradictable flight performances are hard to meet unless the operation of flap system which should reveal optimal performance for each flight mode. In order to design SUAV flaperon satisfying the three performance requirements, various configurations are generated and their aerodynamic performances are analyzed using numerical flow computations around flap systems. Considering aerodynamic performance and structural simplicity, a final flap configuration is selected and the performance is validated through the wind tunnel testing for 40% scale model.

  • In this study, the method of computing and extracting the generalized unsteady aerodynamic matrices using MSC/NASTRAN and MSC/NASTRAN DMAP ALTER has been suggested for the analysis and control of aeroelastic phenomena such as flutter and gust response analysis. In addition to that, the method of approximating the generalized unsteady aerodynamic matrices using minimum state approximation method has been proposed in order to cast the aeroelastic equations of motion in state space form for aeroelastic analysis and control application. Simplified aircraft wing box model has been used for the validation of the methods suggested in this study.
