The free-wing tilt-body aircraft is researched in the flight performance characteristics such as short take-off and landing capability, and reduced sensitivity to gust and center of gravity (CG) change. Due to the main wing separating from the fuselage, the high tiltable empennage, and the stub-wing strongly influencing from the propeller wake, the resulting vehicle aerodynamics and flight dynamics are quite different from those of a conventional fixed-wing aircraft. Using the governing flight dynamics model was studied previously, all of speed and body tilt angle is simulated to determine the flight envelope by a non-linear 3-DOF flight simulation analysis. Though flight performance and trimmability are studied, the flight model of free-wing tilt-body aircraft is to reduce the hidden risk and to achieve the successful flight test. It is analyzed the flight characteristics that distinguishes free-wing tilt-body aircraft from the conventional aircraft.

This paper describes boundary analysis for modeling Aircraft Carrier Sortie Generation System(CVSGS). An aircraft carrier, as a super system, is a warship going into battle by operating a number of aircraft on deck and it should be lay down a definition about aviation operations interacting between aircraft carrier and carrier air wing in small deck area. For this reason this paper models common aviation support system for generating sortie basic unit of carrier aviation operations unlike to general warship and defines boundaries between this system and aircraft carrier and carrier air wing. This paper analysis activities of aircraft carrier and embarked carrier air wing in carrier aviation operations, and analysis and defines boundaries Aircraft Carrier Sortie Generation System(CVSGS) to perform core functions in interacting between aircraft carrier and embarked carrier air wing.

This work is mainly done by too many manual operations in the aircraft structure design process resulting in heavy workload, low efficiency and quality, non-standardized processes and procedures. A top-down associated design method employing the template parametric technology is proposed here in order to improve the quality of design and efficiency of aircraft wing structure at the preliminary design stage. The appropriate parametric tool is chosen and the rapid design system of knowledge-driven aircraft wing structure is developed. First, a skeleton model of aircraft wing structure is rapidly built up through the template encapsulated design knowledge. Associated design is then introduced to realize the association between the typical structural part and skeleton model. Finally, the related elements are referenced from skeleton model, and a typical structural part reflecting an automatic response for design changes of the upstream skeleton model is quickly constructed within the template. The rapid design system proposed and developed in this paper is able to formalize the design standardization of aircraft wing structure and thus the rapid generation of different aircraft wing structure programs and achieve the structural design knowledge reuse as well.

It may be inefficient to conduct the aeroelastic analysis by using full-scale conventional finite-element analyses or experiments, from the initial design phase, for an aircraft wing which can be considered as the discontinuum complex structure with composite laminated skins. In this paper, therefore more efficient aeroelastic analysis has been conducted for a box-beam typed aircraft wing by using the equivalent continuum beam-rod model which is derived from the concept of energy equivalence. Equivalent structural properties of the continuum beam-rod model are obtained from the direct comparison of the finite-element matrices of continuum beam-rod model with those of box-beam typed aircraft wing. Numerical results by the continuum beam-rod model approach are compared with those by the conventional finite-element analysis approach to show that the continuum beam-rod model proposed herein is quite satisfactory as a simplified model of aircraft wing structure for aeroelastic analyses.

In this study, the sizing and performance analysis program is developed for the canard rotor wing(CRW) aircraft which operates in dual modes (fixed wing mode and rotary wing mode). The developed program is verified for both fixed wing and rotary wing modes using the existing aircraft data and the design optimization formulation is made to perform the reconnaissance mission. For the canard rotor wing aircraft optimization , multi-objective function is constructed to consider both the fixed wing mode and rotary wing mode the weighting factor. For six design cases with different weighting factors and different design constraints, the optimization is performed and improved rotor design results are derived.

In this study, the automatic processing of the wing ribs of large aircraft was simulated. Specifically, in the simulation for the automatic processing of the fly ribs, the process of the automated loading device with a robot was examined, along with the wing rib processing and manufacturing automation processes. Moreover, the process time, corresponding to all the stages in the wing rib processing, was calculated. The results pertaining to the machining and manufacturing times of 34 wing ribs (Nos. 1-17), as obtained through the proposed simulation approach, indicated that the total machining time for the left and right wing ribs and rib guns was 537.7 h. The production time was calculated as 1,117.4 h. It is considered that the processing of the wing ribs of large aircraft can be automated in a factory, based on the results of the proposed simulation process.
Flow computations around forward sweep wing small aircraft have been conducted in this study. The main-wing of the forward-wing small aircraft is composed of two planforms: the inboard wing section with backward sweep angle which is known as strake and the outboard wing section with forward sweep angle. The geometrical discontinuity or kink generated by the combination of these two different planforms requires detailed flow analysis around wing. Four different solvers were used to calculate aerodynamic data and the accuracy of each method is examined. For the convenience of grid generation over the aircraft geometry, the overset grid method was applied. Through this calculation, the basic aerodynamic data of the forward-wing aircraft were provided and the aerodynamic characteristics of the wing is expounded.
Optimized design was performed for a subsonic aircraft wing. The subsonic aircraft is dual turbo-prop and carrying less than 100 passengers. The cruise speed is Mach 0.6. The design was performed by two stages. The first stage is to decide the height of horizontal tail by analyzing the directional stability with Vorstab and then, the optimized wing configuration was selected with Piano, a optimizer commercially available. Fluent, a commercial CFD software was utilized to predict the aerodynamic performance of the aircraft. Drag of the aircraft was minimized with maintaining constant lift for cruise. The optimization reduced 10 counts from the initial wing configuration.

The aircraft industry supports aviation by building aircraft and manufacturing aircraft parts for their maintenance. Fuel economization is one of the biggest concerns in the aircraft industry. The reduction in specific fuel consumption of aircraft can be achieved by a variety of means, simplest and more effective is the one to impose minor modifications in the aircraft main wing or the parts which are exposed to the air flow. This method can lead to a reduction in aerodynamic resistance offered by the air and have a smoother flight. The main objective of this study is to propose geometric design modifications on an existing aircraft wing which acts as a vortex generator and it can reduce the drag and increase lift to drag ratio, leading to lower fuel consumption. The NACA 2412 aircraft wing is modified and designed. Rigorous flow analysis is carried out using computational fluid dynamics based software Ansys Fluent. Results show that saw tooth modification to the main wing shows the best aerodynamic efficiency as compared to other modifications.
