In this paper, a study on the future-oriented actuator introduces the future technology and future direction in aerospace and several industry fields. In particular, the mechanical linkage or hydraulic and pneumatic actuators which have the higher output-to-weight ratio have been used a lot in the past as the aircraft's flight control device. Most recently, Fly-By-Wire system has been used in aircraft and the flight control system has been changed in more electric and all electric systems. Electrohydraulic actuators and electric actuators have been developed continually, because they have better efficiency, safety and lower cost for the flight control system of aircraft. Also, to improve the weight condition, accuracy and response of actuator, new field actuators using new materials have been developed. In this paper we clearly proposed the actuator design and detailed technology development trend for next generation actuation system in aerospace and new field.

Technical trends of propulsion system for small aircraft are investigated. Currently, most small aircraft are equipped with piston engine, turboprop and turbofan engines, and the technology development is going continuously. For piston engines, new diesel engines are arising besides gasoline engine. The diesel engines use relatively low-cost and easy to get fuel(Jet A), so the demand for small aircraft is getting increased, and new engines with high reliability and efficiency are being developed. For gas turbine engines, application of small turbofan is getting increased for newly arising VLJ market and the engine demand will be rapidly increased in the future. On the other hand, some electric propulsions without fossil fuels are being developed without high cost of fuel and environmental effects. In the future, propulsion system for small aircraft will be developed having enhancement of performance and efficiency with higher reliability and safety.

For gas turbine engine starting, external power should be supplied with engine to accelerate to suitable rotational speed for air and fuel ignition conditions. Electric starting system for small gas turbine engine has simple system and light weight, so it is generally used for small aircraft. For system analysis of gas turbine engine electric starting system, Characteristics of battery, start motor, engine drag torque should be analyzed and theirs temperature effects should be considered. In this paper, preliminary design procedure of small gas turbine engine electric starting system and major design parameters were described.

The global restriction on pollutant emissions and the soaring of crude oil price are expected to result in the change of future transportation system. Hydrogen is considered to be the leading candidate as an alternative energy source before other new alternative energy sources emerge. Scientists anticipate that hydrogen fuel gas turbine engine and fuel cell will be the power plant of the aircraft in the near future. To realize the aircraft powered by fuel cell system in the future, the technologies such as fuel cell with higher energy density, compressed gas or liquid storage system of hydrogen fuel, and efficient and lightweight electric motor have to be developed first.
As the feasibility of urban air mobility (UAM) service using electric vertical take-off and landing (eVTOL) aircraft increases due to aircraft electrification, distributed propulsion, and artificial intelligence technologies, the U.S. and European aeronautical societies have been improving their certification system and regulations for the type certification of eVTOL. The improved certification system is expected to be ready in the near future, after the European Union Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) proposed the VTOL Special Condition, SC-VTOL in 2019. However, the current domestic certification system is still insufficient to properly respond to eVTOL. This study investigated the development trends of foreign eVTOL and certification systems, identified considerations to improve the domestic certification system, and proposed the measures for type certificates and type certificates validation of eVTOL based on the comparison between SC-VTOL and Korea airworthiness standards (KAS).

The objective of this work presented here was focused on analysis of development trend for the integrated power system of naval vessels to perform the high-power and energy mission load platform. These mission loads are affected by the high level of military technologies, digitalization of the ocean battlefield, high power sensor system for maximization of the ship survivability. All electric power including propulsion power for ship should be controlled by integrated single system in order to carry various high power density weapon system such as Electromagnetic Aircraft Launch System, Electromagnetic Rail Gun[feasible precision striking at long distance 200NM(370km) or over]. As the analyzing the present state of things, mechanical propulsion system is shifted into hybrid or fully electric propulsion systems to realize integrated power system at the developed countries. Such challenges include reduced dependency on foreign-supplied fossil fuel, increasing demand for installed ship power, controlling life-cycle costs.

A large amount of time and cost is consumed due to congestions caused by an increasing number of cars which results in a lot of emissions. To overcome these problems, a new electric vertical takeoff and landing (eVTOL) aircraft is being considered. Since vertical take off and landing without a separate runway is realized and electricity is used as a power source, it could solve the saturated ground traffic congestions without emissions. In this paper, the initial sizing was performed based on the Nexus 6HX of Belltextron which is a tilt-ducted fan type. In this study, the electric propulsion system that only uses battery was implemented instead of current Nexus 6HX hybrid electric propulsion. Aerodynamic analyses were performed using OpenVSP and XFLR5. Power-to-weight ratio, wing loading, estimated weight were calculated with these analyses.

General VTOL aircraft uses gas turbine engine which has high power to weight ratio. However, in the VTOL UAV in small sector, the gas turbine as a prime mover is not adequate because of the limitation of the high fuel consumption ratio of the gas turbine. In this research, The Series Hybrid-Electric Propulsion System(SHEPS) has been proposed and technology survey & comparison analysis has conducted to constitute propulsion system for engine, electric motor and battery. To achieve this object a 65kg-class P-UAV from "Company I" was used. And to estimate the validity of power control algorithm and developed power management control, Matlab/simulink$^{(R)}$ has been used for the simulation. As a result, the developed algorithm worked comparatively well and the research has predicted that SHEPS was satisfied enough for 7 hour of endurance for mission profile.

Modern aircraft is facing the increase of power demands and thermal challenges. In accordance with the application of more electric technology and advanced mission requirement, aircraft system requires increase of power generation and it cause increase of internal heat generation. Simultaneously, restrictions have significantly been imposed to the thermal management system. Modern aircraft must maintain low radar observability and infra-red signature. In addition, new composite aircraft skins have reduced the amount of heat that can be rejected to the environment. The combination of these characteristics has increased the challenges faced by thermal management. In order to mitigate the thermal challenges, the concept of system level thermal management should be applied and new modeling and simulation tools need to be developed. To develop and utilize system level thermal management technology, three key points are considered. Firstly, the performance changes of subsystems and components must be assessed at an integrated thermal system. It is because that each subsystem and component interacts with other subsystems or components and it can directly effects on overall system performance. Secondly, system level thermal management requirements and solutions must be evaluated early in conceptual design process as vehicle and propulsion system configuration decisions are being made. Finally, new component level thermal management technologies must focus on reducing heat generation and increasing the availability of heat sinks.

Continuous variable thrusters require precise thrust control to change the position or attitude of the aircraft and to control the pressure inside the combustion chamber. For this purpose, the thrust is adjusted by moving the pintle structure near the nozzle neck inside the combustion chamber by moving the pintle structure forward and backward, and the actuator is used to move the pintle structure. In this paper, we developed a actuator system for continuous variable thruster and load test system to simulate the load under operating conditions. Also, the performance test of the actuator was performed using the developed load test system
