A Study on Estimation Method for $CO_2$ Uptake of Vegetation using Airborne Hyperspectral Remote Sensing

  • $CO_2$ uptake of vegetation is one of the important variables in order to estimate photosynthetic activity, plant growth and carbon budget estimations. The objective of this research was to develop a new estimation method of $CO_2$ uptake of vegetation based on airborne hyperspectral remote sensing measurements in combination with a photosynthetic rate curve model. In this study, a compact airborne spectrographic imager (CASI) was used to obtain image over a field that had been set up to study the $CO_2$ uptake of corn on August 7, 2002. Also, a field survey was conducted concurrently with the CASI overpass. As a field survey, chlorophyll a content, photosynthetic rate curve, Leaf area, dry biomass and light condition were measured. The developed estimation method for $CO_2$ uptake consists of three major parts: a linear mixture model, an enhanced big leaf model and a photosynthetic rate curve model. The Accuracy of this scheme indicates that $CO_2$ uptake of vegetation could be estimated by using airborne hyperspectral remote sensing data in combination with a physiological model.

Fungal Distribution of the Janggyeong Panjeon, the Depositories for the Tripitaka Koreana Woodblocks in the Haeinsa Temple

  • Many investigations have been conducted on the biological damage and environmental conditions necessary to preserve the Janggyeong Panjeon and Daejanggyeongpan (woodblocks). We performed a survey on the concentration and diversity of airborne fungi in the Janggyeong Panjeon and compared them with the results of a survey from 2012. The temperature of the Beopbojeon building was slightly lower, while the relative humidity was higher than those found at the Sudarajang building. The concentration of airborne fungi in the Beopbojeon was 1.44-fold that of the Sudarajang. It was confirmed that the concentration and diversity of airborne fungi in the Janggyeong Panjeon differed depending on the sampling site. In total, 23 fungal genera were identified from the air samples, and 11 fungal and 1 bacterial genera were identified from the surface of the woodblocks. Among these, only five types of fungi were commonly distributed in the indoor air and surface of the Daejanggyeongpan; however, 58.3% of the fungi identified on the surface of the woodblocks were not observed in the in the air samples. The surface-dwelling fungi may accumulate dust to form microbial communities over time.

금산 함우라늄광상 분포지역의 항공자력/방사능 탐사자료 해석 (Interpretation of Airborne Magnetic and Radioactive Data for the Uranium Deposit in Geumsan Area)

  • 금산지역의 흑색셰일형 우라늄광상에 대하여 항공 자력 및 방사능 탐사를 수행하였다. 각 자료의 암상분석과 선구조 분석에 의한 전반적인 지질 및 구조지질적 특성을 살펴보고 이에 기반한 우라늄 광화대의 특성화를 시도하였다. 자극화변환과 하향연속 이상도에서 우라늄광상을 배태하고 있는 흑색 및 암회색 점판암대의 뚜렷한 양의 이상을 인지함으로써 자력탐사의 적용성을 확인하였다. 이차미분 및 곡률을 이용한 선구조 분석을 통해 회색 혼펠스대와 흑색 점판암대를 대표하는 선구조를 도출하고 우라늄 광화대의 추가 부존 가능영역을 추정하였다. 이에 대한 우라늄광 배태여부는 방사능 총이상 및 우라늄 이상도에서 최종 확인하였다. 결론적으로 열변성기원의 우라늄광화대는 국부적인 반면, 흑색셰일형 광화대는 조사지역 전체에 북동-남서방향으로 연속되어 있음을 확인하였다. 또한 우라늄 광화대는 방사능 총이상의 선구조 분석을 통해 단층과 교차하는 곳은 단절되는 전형적인 구조지질적 특징을 보여주었다. 이상의 고찰로부터 항공 자력 및 방사능 탐사는 상호 보완적이며 따라서 병행 수행하는 것이 자료분석 및 해석에 매우 효과적임을 확인하였다.

일부 학교급식소 조리실의 위생관리에 관한 조사연구 (A Survey on the Sanitary Condition of Kitchens in School Food-service Programs)

  • A survey including an inspection was conducted to assess the sanitary condition of kitchens in the school food-service programs and to prepare background data for improving the safety of school meals. The survey was carried out over a two-month period (September-October, 2001). A self-administered questionnaire recommended by the Korea Ministry of Education & Human Resources Development (MOEHRD) was offered to a random sample of dieticians of twenty-five elementary schools in one region of Korea about food, sanitation, and safety inspection of their kitchens. Air temperature, relative humidity, and airborne microbes in the kitchens were monitored during preparation, cooking, and service. The inspection results showed their sanitary rendition met the level B of the recommendation of the Korea MOEHRD. The range of air temperature of the kitchens was 21.4~22.4$^{\circ}C$. and the range of relative humidity was 62.4~69.6%. The microbiological evaluation of kitchen samples indicated aerobic plate count levels from 22..5 to 26.5 CFU/15 minutes. Although the results of inspection show that the levels of sanitary condition of kitchens in the schools were good, they are not satisfactory for safe food-servile because the temperature and humidity levels are high. This study indicates that the school kitchens should be monitored and strict inspection is necessary. The legal standards for school food-service should include standards for kitchen air temperature, relative humidity, and airborne microbes.

DO-178 기반의 군용항공기 탑재 안전필수 소프트웨어 감항인증 방안에 대한 고찰 (The Study on Airworthiness Certification Process on Military Airborne Safety Critical Software based on DO-178)

  • 항공기에 탑재되는 소프트웨어는 안전과 직결되기 때문에 안전 비행을 위해서는 감항인증 기준을 따라야만 한다. 항공기 탑재 소프트웨어는 감항인증기준에 명시된 DO-178을 따라 개발되어야 하지만 방사청 무기체계 소프트웨어 개발 및 관리 매뉴얼에 따라 개발되고 있다. 본 논문에서는 소프트웨어 전문가 설문조사를 수행하였고 DO-178을 기반으로 소프트웨어 개발 및 인증 절차를 제안하였다.

종합병원내 부유 미생물 농도 및 환경 요인과의 상관성 조사 (Investigation on Concentrations and Correlations of Airborne Microbes and Environmental Factors in the General Hospital)

  • This survey was performed to measure concentrations of airborne microbes, utilizing the six-stage cascade air sampler, according to the sampling site and time in the general hospital and to evaluate the degree of correlations between airborne microbes and environmental factors. Besides the main lobby, airborne microbes and environmental factors were not significantly different between the forenoon(9:00-10:00 AM) and afternoon(2:00-3:00 PM). Concentrations of airborne bacteria and fungi were 404 and $156CFU/m^3$ in the main lobby, 188 and $56CFU/m^3$ in the intensive care unit, 323 and $96CFU/m^3$ in the ward, 239 and $127CFU/m^3$ in the laboratory, and 139 and $33CFU/m^3$ in the newborn baby room, respectively. As a result, the level of airborne microbes was significantly highest in the main lobby and lowest in the newborn baby room(p<0.05). Outdoor airborne microbes concentrations were significantly lower than those of the sampling sites in the general hospital except for the newborn baby room(p>0.05). It was observed that temperature, relative humidity and carbon dioxide in the general hospital had generally positive correlation with airborne microbes. However, there was no correlation between the odor index level and airborne microbes.

Levels of Bioaerosols in Cattle Sheds and Nearby Farmers' Houses in Korea

  • In Korea, there is only a limited amount of information currently available on the levels of airborne bacteria and fungi of cattle sheds, although certain portions of people are potentially exposed to these bioaerosols in cattle sheds. Accordingly, the current study measured them inside cattle sheds, inside and outside farmers' houses near the sheds, and/or inside residential houses far away from the sheds during winter, 2004 and summer, 2005. The airborne bacteria and fungi were detected in most samples in the cattle farmers' houses as well as in the cattle sheds. Aspergillus, Cladosporium, and Penicillium, which have been associated with adverse health effects, were three most prevalent fungal genera, and they took most of the total fungi (more than 69%). The microbial concentrations measured inside the cattle sheds were comparable to those in other reports. Nevertheless, the present arithmetic and geometric mean (GM) microbial concentrations exceeded the Korean guideline for total airborne bacteria at medical facilities ($800\;CFU\;m^{-3}$), the current GM residential indoor concentrations at houses, and the residential indoor levels reported in other countries. The present findings suggest the need for a strategy to reduce Korean cattle farmers' exposure to these microorganisms. In contrast to the microbes, it is suggested that the cattle shed is not an important microenvironment for $PM_{10}$ exposure. Two characteristics examined in this study (seasonal variation and summer survey period, i.e., temperature and humidity) were all important for the cattle farmers' occupational exposure to airborne microbes. The lack of constancy between highest and lowest concentrations of bioaerosols over the survey period further suggests the necessity of performing a long-term survey to better examine farmer exposure levels and their variability.

항공 LiDAR 측량을 이용한 해운대 해안의 해안선 변화 분석 (Shoreline Change Analysis of Haeundae Beach Using Airborne LiDAR Survey)

  • 본 연구에서는 해안선 길이 변화량을 모니터링하기 위하여 RTK-GPS 측량방법과 최신 항공 LiDAR 측량 방법을 이용하여 분석하였다. 우선 해안선 길이를 추출하기 위하여 RTK-GPS 관측을 실시하고 관측시간대별 조위관측 자료를 비교하여 조석보정을 실시하였으며, 보정된 GPS자료에 대하여 Autocad Civil3D 프로그램으로 횡단면도를 작성하여 해안선을 추출하였다. 그리고 일정한 시간간격을 두고 2차에 걸쳐 RTK-GPS측량(1차 2007년 8월 29일, 2차 2007년 10월 6일)을 실시한후 해안선을 비교한 결과 2차 측량시의 해안선 길이는 1차 측량시 보다 약 21m 감소하였다. 또한, 항공 LiDAR 측량(2006년 12월 24일)의 결과와 비교한 1차 RTK-GPS 측량에 의한 해안선 길이가 약 15m 감소함을 알 수 있었다. 또한 침식과 퇴적에 대해서는 우측상단(선착장) 부분이 침식되고, 좌측하단(조선비치) 부분이 퇴적됨을 알 수 있었다. 이는 해수욕장의 개장에 따른 모래의 양빈과 태풍, 조류, 풍향 등 자연적인 영향으로 인하여 침식과 퇴적에 대한 면적이 변화하고 그에따라 해안선의 길이가 변화함을 알 수 있었다.

사문석 채석장과 제철소 내 사문석 취급 근로자의 공기 중 석면 노출 평가 (Occupational Exposure to Airborne Asbestos Fibers in Serpentine Quarries and a Steel Mill)

  • Objectives: Asbestos contents of crushed serpentine rocks and airborne fiber concentrations of workers were determined at two serpentine quarries and a steel mill. Methods: Bulk samples of uncrushed and crushed serpentine rocks were collected and analyzed by PLM and TEM. Airborne asbestos samples were collected from the breathing zone of workers and the vicinity of working area and analyzed by PCM and TEM. Results: Chrysotile was identified with antigorite, lizardite and non-asbestiform actinolite in bulk samples. The arithmetic means of chrysotile contents in crushed serpentines were 0.11, 0.01, 0.42%(W/W) by quarry A, quarry B and a steel mill, respectively. The asbestos concentrations of all personal samples were less than 0.1 f/cc which is the permissible exposure limit of workers in Korea. The arithmetic means of airborne asbestos concentrations were 0.017 f/cc and 0.009 f/cc in personal samples collected from two serpentine quarries. The asbestos concentrations of all personal samples collected from a steel mill were less than LODs by PCM analysis but asbestos was detected in area samples by TEM. By the job tasks of serpentine quarries, crusher/separator operation generated the highest exposure to airborne asbestos. Conclusions: Although chrysotile contents in crushed serpentines of quarries were less the permissible level, the highest exposure of workers in serpentine quarries reached up to 76% of the permissible level of airborne asbestos. There were also possibilities of occupational exposure to airborne asbestos in a steel mill. The present exposure study should encourage further survey and occupational control of quarries producing serpentine or other types of asbestos-bearing rocks.

서울시 일부 지하철역 내 부유 진균, 입자상 물질, 이산화탄소의 분포 양상 (Distribution of Airborne Fungi, Particulate Matter and Carbon Dioxide in Seoul Metropolitan Subway Stations)

  • Objectives: The aims of this study were to examine the level of airborne fungi and environmental factors in Seoul metropolitan subway stations and to provide fundamental data to protect the health of subway workers and passengers. Methods: The field survey was performed from November in 2004 to February in 2005. A total 22 subway stations located at Seoul subway lines 1-4 were randomly selected. The measurement points were subway workers' activity areas (station office, bedroom, ticket office and driver's seat) and the passengers' activity areas (station precincts, inside train and platform). Air sampling for collecting airborne fungi was carried out using a one-stage cascade impactor. The PM and CO2 were measured using an electronic direct recorder and detecting tube, respectively. Results: In the activity areas of the subway workers and passengers, the mean concentrations of airborne fungi were relatively higher in the workers' bedroom and station precinct whereas the concentration of particulate matter, $PM_{10}\;and\;PM_{2.5}$, were relatively higher in the platform, inside the train and driver's seat than in the other activity areas. There was no significant difference in the concentration of airborne fungi between the underground and ground activity areas of the subway. The mean $PM_{10}\;and\;PM_{2.5}$ concentration in the platform located at underground was significantly higher than that of the ground (p<0.05). Conclusions: The levels of airborne fungi in the Seoul subway line 1-4 were not serious enough to cause respiratory disease in subway workers and passengers. This indicates that there is little correlation between airborne fungi and particulate matter.
