  • A laser interferometer is the unique measurement device that can measure the range up to a few meters with sub-nano resolution and this characteristic makes it as the important sensing device for the emerging nano-mechatronics technologies. The laser interferometer, however, is very sensitive to the environments such as temperature, humidity, sound noises, vibrations and air turbulences and these factors result in a few hundred nano meter errors. There have been many efforts to reduce these environmental errors. The output of the laser interferometer is assumed to be the sum of a real displacement and a Markov process noise. The purpose of this paper is to develop Kalman filter algorithms to reduce the laser interferometer measurement errors by exploiting the information of displacements in position-servo systems.

  • Biofiltration can effectively remove both organic and inorganic air pollution compounds from both industrial and public sources. However, for the optimal biofiltration performance, it is necessary to gain a better understanding of the inner environment and destruction mechanisms within a biofilter. The effects of operational factors on removal efficiency was studied. Generally, removal efficiency decreases as the loading rate increases. Temperature, as one of the key factors that affect biofiltration design and performance, was also investigated. Conceptually, the biofilter reactor of this paper was divided into five different consecutive stages. The more ethylbenzene COD degraded at each stage, the higher the temperature increases observed compared to the temperatures of the previous stages. It was observed that for every 1 kg of ethylbenzene COD degraded per cubic meter of biofilter media, there was generally a 0.41$^{\circ}C$ increase in the temperature of that stage.

  • In this study, air meter method and capacitance measurement method to apply economically at quality control of ready-mixed concrete among various unit water content measurement technique was selected. Then, it was evaluated estimating performance of unit water content according to the change of water-binder ratio and unit water content. Also, it was examined influence about error occurrence of unit water content by change of properties of used materials. Finally, based on this study, it was proposed fundamental data to utilize measurement technique of unit water content to quality control. of ready-mixed concrete in construction field.

  • Recently natural characteristics and esthetics have been interested increasing in clinical dentistry. Thus the evaluation of the shade of dental porcelain has become an important part in dental research. Noritake Super Porcelain EX-3 Vita shade A2 (Noritake, Japan) Vintage HaLo Vita shade A2 (Shofu, Japan), Vita omega 900 Vitapan 3D-master shade 2M2 (Vita, Germany) were conducted for six times for repeated firing in a way to observe the change of color with respect to the number of firing. The repeated firing was implemented with the vacuum firing and air firing, and by using Shade Eye-EX Chroma meter (Shofu, U.S.A.), the changes in values of shade, value and chroma were compared. With the above results, the change of color was not noticed only in Vita when repeated firing was applied.

  • In industry pneumatic control system has become a important means to obtain automation because of its simplicity, fast speed and low cost. However Due to of the compressibility of air and damping friction between moving parts, it is difficult to achieve high speed driving, accurate positioning and stopping without overshoot in one pneumatic control system. This paper describes the dynamic behaviors of pneumatic linear actuator. The results will be very useful in the prediction of actuated dynamics and for the manufacturers to improve the techniques in their redesign and get better performance. Also, the experimental data is very important for the dynamic simulation and theoretical analysis.

  • Gas flow characteristics within the cylinder is important factors in impoving lean combustion stability. This paper shows the effects of various flow fields generated by a swirl control valve(SCV) on combustion process in a 4-valve spark ignition engine. An impulse swirl/tumble meter was used to elucidation the steady-state flow characteristics, and a rotating grating type LDV was developed to measure the mean velocity and tunbulence intensity in relation to the crank angle. These methodologies were applied to clarify the correlation between gas flow characteristics and combustion stability at a lean air fuel ratio. An analysis of the correlation revealed the gas flow conditions required to optimize a lean-burn system.

  • Neglecting distant zones in the computation of geoidal heights using Stokes'formula give rise to some truncation errors. The GRS80 Korean Gravimetric geoid Model 1993(KGM93) of the South Korea region was implemented, in this paper, using a combination of satellite-derived GEM-T2 gravity and terrestrial gravity data. A spherical cap size of 30 degree is used on the integration and the truncation error is compensated to the free-air geoid. The results of this study show that the accuracy of the KGM93-C has one meter level.

  • This paper discusses the economics of skyscraper construction in Manhattan since 1990. First the paper reviews the economic theory of skyscraper height. Next it documents the frequency and heights of skyscraper construction in the last 25 years. Then the paper reviews the relative movements of office rents, condominium prices, and construction costs. Statistical results suggest that the resurgence of Manhattan's skyscraper construction is being driving by the rise in the average price of apartments, and is not being driven by rising office rents or falling construction costs. Statistical evidence shows that the height premium has not been rising over the last decade. Developers have been purchasing air rights (and bidding up the prices) in order to satisfy the demand for supertall buildings. In the next five to ten years, Manhattan is likely to see over thirty 200-meter or taller buildings, as compared to only four since 2010.

  • At the previous papers, we showed that K2O-CaO-P2O5 glasses had a solubility in air so that they could be used for glass fertilizer. In this work, we fabricated the Eco-glass fertilizer containing trace elements such as B, Mg, Zn, Fe, Cu, Co, and Mo by a melt-quenching process and the dissolution properties of these glasses were investigated with pH meter and ICP analyzer. In case of the glasses containing the trace elements, effect of trace elements on the dissolutions is not obvious and ignorant the stability of mother glass. Also, the dissolution amounts of each trace elements depend on the mother glass composition and the quantity of each trace element, and mother glasses determined the dissolving velocity of chemical elements.
