Effects of a non-absorbable gas on the absorption process in a vertical tube absorber has been investigated numerically. The water vapor mixed with air is absorbed into LiBr/water solution film. The flow is assumed to be laminar and fully developed in both liquid and gas phases. The diffusion and energy equations were solved in both phases to give the temperature and concentrations, from which heat and mass fluxes were determined. The local absorption rate has been shown to decrease as the mass fraction of air in the water vapor increases. The vapor pressure of water at the liquid-vapor is interface reduced significantly since the non-absorbable gas accumulates near the interface. The effects of non-absorbable gases on absorption rate become larger as the mass flow rate of the vapor decreases. For a small amount of non-absorbable gases, the total absorption rate of water vapor increases as the mass flow rate of the vapor decreases. The total absorption rate increases as the mass flow rate of the vapor increases for large concentrations of non-absorbable gases at the inlet of an absorber.

The earth environment consists of four spheres : geosphere, hydrosphere, atmosphere and biosphere. The geosphere consists mostly of minerals. It, however, contains some water and air in its shallow depth. Although hydrosphere and atmosphere consist predominantly of water and air, respectively, both contain some minerals. The biosphere consisting of various organisms is present in the interfaces of geosphere, hydrosphere and atmosphere. The natural environment of the earth is continuously changing by the interaction of four spheres. It suggests that out relevant environmental problems can not be revolved without understanding the natural relationship of these four spheres. Minerals in our environment are very important because they are the main constituent materials of the earth and they control our environment. The roles of minerals in our environment have not been understood even in the scientific society. Thus their roles have been neglected. Review of studies on the environmental mineralogy so far made at our laboratory and others show that minerals control the environment in various ways. Minerals neutralize the acid water as well as acid rain. Minerals in soils and rocks are major neutralizer of the acid rain. Salinization of sea water is attributed to the ionic substitution between minerals and sea water. Some minerals control the humidity of the air. Corals, the products of biomineralization, are the main carbon controller of the air. Minerals also adsorb heavy metals, organic pollutants and radioactive nuclides. Such remarkable functions for controlling the environment come from the mineral-water reaction and biomineralization. All these phenomena are subjects of the environmental mineralogy, a new field of earth science.

In the normal Refrigeration process, the condensation heat of refrigerant s not been used because of its low-temperature waste heat. To recover the condensation waste heat of R-12 refrigerator, a drying and hot water system was designed and experimented. The results obtained were summarized as follows: 1. As the temperature a temosphere was increased, the temperature of discharge gas of compressor was increased. And the temperature was $80-84^{\circ}C$ for air condensing type and was $68-71^{\circ}C$ for water condensing type during summer. 2. The condensation waste heat could be obtained up to $50-55^{\circ}C$ of drying heat-source and Hot water in summer. In this case, recovered rate was about $73\%$. And the more temperature of drying Heat-source and Hot water were increased, the more a recovered rate were decreased. 3. When comparing drying characteristics of Agro-products in dryer of waste heat utilization and Hot air, there was no quality difference in products. But drying time of the former was 3 Hours longer than the latter. 4. The condensation waste heat of compressor could be applied into the drying of marine products, the predrying of agro-products and making hot water. And showed high possibility of the waste heat using in low-temperature storage.
In order to survery the risk of air-borne lead to human, the relation between air-borne lead level and blood lead level was examined by using of the kinetic model and statistical model. The results of this survey were as follows: 1. The pathways of lead intake were food and water, mainly. 2. Though blood lead level of Korean urbanire was higher than that of American or Japanese, it was not so severe as to influence human health. 3. The lead content in food and water was high, and so it is needed to confirm the cause of high content was whether second contamination by air pollution or not.
The cooling effect of a fog cooling system has a close relationship to air flow and relative humidity in the greenhouse. From the VETH chart for cooling design, a cooling efficiency can be improved by means of increasing the air exchange rate and the amount of sprayed water. In the no shading experimental greenhouse by time control, when average air exchange rate was 0.77 times.min$^{-1}$ and spray water amount was 2,009g, inside temperature of the greenhouse was 31$^{\circ}C$ that was almost close to outside temperature and cooling efficiency was 82%. When average air exchange rate was close to temperature of the greenhouse that was no cooling and 70% shading greenhouse environment. When average air exchange rate was 2.59times.min$^{-1}$ , spray water amount was 2,009g and shading rate was 70%, inside relative humidity of the greenhouse was increased was 2,009 g and shading rate was 70%, inside relative humidity of the greenhouse was increased, but temperature was not decreased. When average air exchange rate was 2.33 times.min$^{-1}$ and spray water amount was 2,009g, inside temperature was 31.4 and at that time maximum wind speed at the air inlet of greenhouse was 1.9m.s$^{-1}$ . Since time controller sprayed amount of constant water at a given interval, some of sprayed water remained not to be evaporated, which increased relative humidity and decreased cooling efficiency. Because the shading screen prevented air flow in the greenhouse, it also caused the evaporation efficiency to be decreased. In order to increase cooling efficiency, it was necessary to study on controling by relative humidity and air circulation in the greenhouse.
A heat pump system is a highly efficient, eco-friendly device which consumes a small amount of energy and supply a lot of energy for heat formation. In addition, it is a single device system that has low generation effect about carbon dioxide. There are many researches related to the electronic expansion valve and the heat pump, but the detailed data analysis of each influence is insufficient. In this study, the cooling capacity and COP of the heat pump system were investigated by varying frequency of the inverter connected to compressor, inlet temperature of chilled water into evaporator and inlet temperature of cooling water into condenser. The results are as follows : (1) The cooling capacity increased as the inverter frequency, inlet temperature of chilled water into evaporator increased, and inlet temperature of cooling water into condenser decreased. (2) The COP increased as the frequency of inverter, inlet temperature of cooling water into condenser decreased and the inlet temperature of chilled water into evaporator increased.

This study was carried out numerically to investigate the air flow and thermal performance around single and parallel fin-tube heat exchangers and the cooling performance of the fluid inside the heat exchangers. In this study, the air velocity(1~7m/s), the pitch of fin(4, 6.1, 8, 11.3, 18.3, 44mm) and the diameter of fin(31, 33, 35, 37, 39mm) were varied. The flow rate of the water at the fin-tube heat exchanger inlet is 89cc/min and the water temperature is 353K. The air temperature at the upstream region of the heat exchanger is 300K. flow rate of the water at the fin-tube heat exchanger inlet is 80cc/min and the water temperature is 353K. It was found that the air pressure drop around single and parallel fin-tube heat exchangers was highly dependent on the air velocity and the fin pitch, but was independent of the fin diameter. Also, it was shown that pressure drop increased more the parallel arrangements than in single heat exchanger. The temperature difference of water at the inlet and outlet of the heat exchanger depended on the air velocity, the fin pitch and the fin diameter, and it was found that the parallel arrangement method further reduced the temperature of water. It was shown that the Nusselt number increased as the Reynolds number and the fin pitch increased, and decreased as the fin diameter increased.

This paper describes the reduction of a hydrogen sulfide ($H_2S$) generated from a biogas plant. Micro bubble system is adopted to supply air into the water in the reaction chamber, which can increase the contact area of the supplied air to the reserving water. Two stage reaction chambers having two reaction rooms are designed and manufactured to enhance the reduction rate of a hydrogen sulfide. Sodium hydroxide (NaOH) is also considered to get rid of a hydrogen sulfide. Air volume rate to the water in a reaction chamber is maintained between 0.5 and $1.0m^3/min$. Throughout experimental measurement of the concentration of a hydrogen sulfide by changing the volume of supplied air into the water, reduction rate of a hydrogen sulfide increases as air volume increases. Adding sodium hydroxide to the water with the air supply can reduce effectively a hydrogen sulfide up to 99.5% from biogas. It is noted that a hydrogen sulfide generated by a biogas plant can reduce by supplying micro bubble air and sodium hydroxide effectively.

The aim of this study is to verify the performance of water-to-air multi-heat pump system with a vertical U-tube GLHX(U-tube system) and a double tube GLHX(double tube system), which were installed in a school building located in Asan. For analyzing the performance of the GSHP system, we monitored various operating da~ including the water temperature of inlet and outlet of the ground heat exchanger, mass flow rate, and power consumption. Daily average COP of the single U-tube system and the double tube system were 4.5 and 4.2 at cooling mode and were 3.5 and 3.8 at heating mode. As a result, We know that performance of water-to-air multi-heat pump unit is reliable at actual condition operated in a part load conditions for all day.

This study treats the analysis of the performance and the design of plume abatement wet/dry cooling tower with dry type heat exchanger using a numerical method. A two-dimensional analysis is performed using the finite volume method for mechanical draft counterflow and crossflow tower. For a coupling problem between water and air system, a turbulent two phase flow is considered. Effectiveness-NTU method is used for modeling of the dry type heat exchanger. The parameter change simulations of the outer wall shape, the relative flowrate of air, and attachment of an air mixer are performed to examine the effect on plume abatement. It is found that if the relative air flowrate ratio and the adequate air mixer type are chosen well in addition to the ratio of water to air flowrate, the loss of the cooling capacity and the additional cost are reduced and the plume is abated.
