Reduction of Pesticide Residues in the Production of Red Pepper Powder

  • Six organophosphorus, one organochlorine, and three synthetic pyrethroid pesticides were analyzed for their residues during washing and hot-air drying of red peppers conducted in the production of powder. The residue ratio in organophosphorus pesticides was 33% in chlorpyrifos, 31 % in diazinon, 50% in methidathion, 80% in EPN, 28% in fenitrothion, and 60% in profenofos. The ratio in pyrethroids was 109% in cypermethrin, 102% in deltamethrin, and 106% in fenvalerate. That in organochlorine was 56% in ${\alpha}$-endosulfan and 90% in ${\beta}$-endosulfan. The results were greatly different between organophosphorus and pyrethroid pesticides. UV irradiation along with hot-air drying brought about a remarkable reduction of the residues, up to 70% as compared with hot-air drying only. The removal effect was most remarkable in pyrethroids, which are hardly removed by hot-air drying. The color of the pepper was not changed during UV irradiation. The use of oxidizing agents such as hydrogen peroxide or chlorine dioxide during washing did not show a remarkable removal of residues. The residue ratio was not affected whether the pesticide is contaminated artificially or naturally.

웨트클리닝이 양모, 레이온 직물의 치수 안정성과 세탁성능에 미치는 영향 (Effect of Wet Cleaning on Shrinkage and Detergency of Wool and Rayon Fabrics)

  • This study focuses on the optimal washing conditions for dry cleaning recommended fabrics to minimize dimensional changes using wet cleaning. We suggest water-based alternatives to a perchloroethylene based cleaning process. Wool and rayon fabrics were laundered under various washing conditions and then air-dried for 24hrs. All specimens were extended after spinning and shrunk after drying. This is probably because the fibers were swollen and extended by wetting. The wool fabrics were shown to be acutely influenced by washing temperature and mechanical force. The optimal washing conditions for wool fabric to minimize the dimensional change implied a normal washing temperature and minimized mechanical force. For rayon specimens, dimensional change by a hand wash showed a remarkable decrease compared with a machine wash. Rayon fabric seemed to be influenced by the quantity of water contained in the fabric after spinning and washing time. Therefore, the desirable washing conditions for rayon fabric are to reduce the time required for washing and to increase the spin speed.

나노버블을 이용한 지하철용 전기집진기 포집먼지에 대한 세척효율 평가 (Evaluation of Washing Efficiency of Collective PM by Electrostatic Precipitator in Subway Station Using Nano Bubble)

  • 지하역사 내 대기오염물질은 외부에서 유입되거나 또는 지하철 내부의 승객 승·하차 시 발생하는 등 여러 가지 요인에 의해 복합적으로 발생한다. 최근 연구 결과에 따르면, 지하역사 내 터널 및 지하철역에서 발생하는 대부분의 대기오염물질은 열차풍에 의해 발생되는 것과 같이 내부적 요인에 많은 영향을 많이 받는 것으로 알려져 있다. 이러한 대기오염물질을 제어하기 위해서는 지하철역사 내에 전기집진장치와 같은 집진시설이 필요하며, 집진장치에 의해 제거된 미세먼지를 보다 효율적으로 관리하기 위해서는 집진장치 내부에 지속적인 세척이 필수적이다. 따라서 본 연구에서는 지하역사에 설치할 전기집진장치 내부 집진판에 쌓인 미세먼지를 세척하기 위한 나노버블세척 장치를 개발하였고 나노버블수의 먼지세척효율을 평가하고자 하였다. 실험 결과, 분사압 증가에 따라 세척 효율이 일정하게 증가하였고 나노버블수로 세척할 경우 수돗물로 세척한 경우보다 부착먼지 제거효율이 130.8% 더 증가하였다. 세척횟수 증가에 따라 최대 제거효율은 수돗물에 비해 143.1% 높았지만 적합한 세척횟수는 3회 미만인 것으로 나타났다. 또한 나노버블수 체류시간 변화에 따른 세척효율 실험결과, 나노버블수의 최대 체류시간은 5분 이내로 유지됨을 확인하였다.

가정에서의 수돗물 사용과 관련된 휘발성 염소소독부산물에 대한 흡입노출 평가 (Assessment of Inhalation Exposure to Volatile Disinfection By-products Associated with Household Uses of Chlorinated Tap Water)

  • Volatile disinfection by-products (DBPs) contained in chlorinated tap water are released into household air during indoor activities (showering, cooking, dish -washing, etc.) associated with tap water uses and may cause adverse health effects on humans. Twenty seven subjects were recruited and their homes were visited during the winter of 2002. Tap water, household air, and exhaled breath samples were collected and analyzed for five volatile DBPs (chloroform, bromodichloromethane, dichloroacetonitrile, 1,1 -dichloropropanone and 1,1,1 trichloropropanone). Chloroform was a major DBP found in most samples. Tap water chloroform concentrations were not statistically correlated with its household air concentrations, probably due to individual variability in indoor activities such as showering, cooking, and dish - washing as well as household ventilation. Correlation of breath chloroform concentration with household air chloroform concentration showed its possible use as a biomarker of exposure to household air chloroform. Exposure estimates suggested that inhalation during household stay be a major route of exposure to volatile DBPs and that ingestion of tap water be a trivial contributor to the total exposure in Koreans.

유류오염토양 처리를 위한 마이크로나노버블 토양세척에 관한 연구 (A Study on the Treatment of Oil Contaminated Soils with Micro-nano Bubbles Soil Washing System)

  • The objectives of this study are to examine the processing of oils contamination soil by means of using a micronano-bubble soil washing system, to investigate the various factors such as washing periods, the amount of micro-nano bubbles generated depending on the quantity of acid injection and quantity of air injection, to examine the features involved in the elimination of total petroleum hydrocarbons (TPHs) contained in the soil, and thus to evaluate the possibility of practical application on the field for the economic feasibility. The oils contaminated soil used in this study was collected from the 0~15 cm surface layer of an automobile junkyard located in U City. The collected soil was air-dried for 24 hours, and then the large particles and other substances contained in the soil were eliminated and filtered through sieve No.10 (2 mm) to secure consistency in the samples. The TPH concentration of the contaminated soil was found to be 4,914~5,998 mg/kg. The micronano-bubble soil washing system consists of the reactor, the flow equalization tank, the micronano- bubble generator, the pump and the strainer, and was manufactured with stainless material for withstanding acidic phase. When the injected air flow rate was fixed at 2 L/min, for each hydrogen peroxide concentrations (5, 10, 15%) the removal percents for TPH within the contaminated soil with retention times of 30 minutes were respectively identified as 4,931 mg/kg (18.9%), 4,678 mg/kg (18.9%) and, 4,513 mg/kg (17.7%). And when the injected air flow rate was fixed at 2 L/min, for each hydrogen peroxide concentrations (5, 10, 15%) the removal percents for TPH within the contaminated soil with retention times of 120 minutes were respectively identified as4,256 mg/kg (22.3%), 4,621 mg/kg (19.7%) and 4,268 mg/kg (25.9%).

엽채류 세척, 살균, 탈수 시스템 개발 (Development of a Washing, Sterilization, Dehydrating System for Leaf Vegetables)

  • Leaf vegetables are composed of about 80% of moisture and 20 to 30% are damaged during the transportation due to decomposition and browning. This study was conducted to develop a washing, sterilization dehydrating system that could remove these polluters, and major findings were summarized as followings. The system was constructed so that leaf vegetables were moved through the washing, sterilization, and dehydration stages contained in a box, the shifting was conducted using PLC-controlled pneumatic pressure. Basic tests for determination of design parameters led to the results that optimum washing times by air bubbles were 5 minutes for lettuce and perilla and 10 minutes for Chinese cabbage, and percentages of bacteria removed using the optimum washing times were 94, 98, and 76%, respectively. Optimum speed and time of a centrifugal dehydrator for removal surface waterdrop on the leaves were 400 rpm and 30 s, respectively, dehydration rates were in a range $70{\sim}82%$ and damage rates were within 15% for the three vegetables tested. Operating efficiencies of the developed system for lettuce, perilla, and Chinese cabbage were 100, 120, and 80 kg/h, respectively, which were 25, 24, and 27 times of operating efficiencies of the conventional manual method.

Ammonia and Hydrogen Sulfide Removal from Swine House Exhaust Air Using a Dip Injection Wet Scrubber

  • This study was conducted to evaluate the odor reduction efficacy of the dip injection wet scrubber (DIWS) using tap water as washing fluid. The $NH_3$ and $H_2S$ removal efficiency of 7 day batch operated DIWS was evaluated twice over a total of 14 days of experiment. The $NH_3$ removal efficiency ranged from 26 to 37%. The $H_2S$ removal efficiency was between 22 and 30%. The pH of the washing fluid maintained below 8 and the $NH_4{^+}$ concentration tended to keep constant around 350 ppm after 5 days of washing-fluid replacement. Therefore, the 5-day washing fluid replacement interval is more preferable than the 7-day interval. The $NH_4{^+}$ concentration and the electrical conductivity (EC) showed a high correlation. The EC measurement can be used as an alternative to conventional $NH_4{^+}$ concentration measurement method for real time monitoring of washing fluid condition.

가정에서 수돗물 사용 중에 방출되는 chloroform에 대한 흡입노출 (Inhalation Exposure to Chloroform Released from Household Uses of Chlorinated Tap Water)

  • Exposure to volatile disinfection by-products (DBPs) such as chloroform included in chlorinated tap water can occur during household activities via inhalation as well as ingestion and dermal absorption. This study was conducted to examine the significance of inhalation route of exposure since humans are unintentionally exposed to volatile DBPs while staying home. Two sets of experiments were carried out in an apartment to measure: 1) the variation of chloroform concentrations in the living room air following kitchen activities (cooking and dish-washing); and 2) the variation of chloroform concentrations in the bathroom and living room following showering. Cooking, dish-washing, and showering all contributed to the elevation of household chloroform levels. Even a few minutes of natural ventilation resulted in the reduction of the chloroform levels to the background. Estimates of daily chloroform doses and lifetime cancer risks suggested that inhalation of household air during staying home be a major route of exposure to chloroform and that ingestion be a minor one in Korean people. It is also suggested that ventilation be a simple and important measure of mitigating human exposure to volatile DBPs indoors.

드럼세탁기 방사소음의 소스 및 기여도 분석 (Analysis of Sources and Contribution for the Radiated Noise of Drum-type Washing Machine)

  • The procedure to estimate the sources of noise and vibrations in a typical drum-type washing machine was presented. The sources should be identified to predict the radiated noise with computational model of structure. Source identification techniques based on singular decomposition were implemented using the measured signals of accelerometers and microphones. The finite element analysis and indirect boundary element analysis were implemented to predict the structural vibrations and the acoustic pressures at the field points. The predicted results by only structural sources were compared with those by both structural and acoustical sources. It was verified that not only the structural-borne source but also air-borne source should be considered to predict the radiated noise with better accuracy. The contribution analysis with respect to the transfer path was also preformed.
