  • This study was performed to study the efficiency of a local ventilation system, installed in dental laboratories, and of two types of protecting face masks. The dust originating from the workpiece as well as from the wheels and stones was collected on air filters in the cutting cycle during coarse and fine grinding, and in the subsequent polishing procedures of each specific dental material. The efficiency of the ventilation system was measured on the basis of weight reduction of dust in the breathing air at a distance about 20-40 cm from workpiece. The results were as follows: 1. Use of the local ventilation system reduced the amounts of respirable dust to an average level of 21.4%, although the efficiency of the local ventilation system varied depending upon materials used. 2. Mounting a nozzle on the tube improved the efficiency of the ventilation system considerably. The efficiency of the local ventilation system also increased as the workpiece was closing to the tube inlet. 3. With or without the local ventilation system, the distance between the position of the workpiece and sampler greatly affected the dust level. 4. The face masks covering the sampler improved the efficiency of the ventilation system considerably.

  • On this work, the importance of industrial ventilation was investigated and examined the theoretical point and problems about general ventilation of factory exposed on high temperature during summer. As a case study, the ventilation planning of the printed circuit board (PCB) etching process for an electronic company was carried out and each of those characteristics were compared by installing actual ventilation systems and measuring the changing state of the working environment in accordance with ventilation method during summer. The purpose of the study is to present an efficient ventilation method for a factory with a closed structure under high temperature environment. In summary, for a factory with a sealed structure such as the target PCB manufacturing factory in this study, the forced supply and exhaust method was the most appropriate ventilation method for maintaining a low.

  • Successful energy conservation and good indcfor air quality (IAQ) are highly dependent on ventilation system. Air filtration is a primary solution of indoor air control strategies in terms of reducing energy consumption and improving ihdoor air quality. A conventional system with bypass filter, as it is called variable-air-volume/bypass filtration system (VAV/BPFS), is a variation of the conventional variable air volume (VAV) systems, which is designed to eliminate indoor air pollutant and to save energy. Bypass filtration system equipped with a high-efficiency particulate filter and carbon absorbent provides additional cleaned air into indoor environments and maintain good IAQ for human health. The objectives of this research were to compare the relative total decay rate of indoor air pollutant concentrations, and to develop a mathematical model simulating the performance of VAV/BPFS. All experiments were performed in chamber under the controlled conditions. The specific conclusions of this research are: 1. The VAV/BPFS system is more efficient than the VAV system in removing indoor air pollutant concentration. The total decay rates of aerosol, and total volatile organic compound (TVOC) for the VAV/BPFS system were higher than those of the conventional VAV system. 2. IAQ model predictions of each pollutant agree closely with the measured values. 3. According to IAQ model evaluation, reduction of outdoor supply air results in decreased dilution removal rate and on increased bypass filtration removal rate with the VAV/BPFS. As a results, we recommends the VAV/BPFS as an alternative to conventional VAV systems.

  • To find more efficient exhaust effect, air curtain of upward or downward trend in gas table and left or right side of range hood were made. As result that film vapor from range hood lower part by digital camera, the air current change by moving existence and nonexistence of exhaust fan and direction of air curtain were known. Under all experiment condition, upward air curtain superior exhaust performance.

  • Indoor air quality is affected by source strength of pollutants, ventilation rate, decay rate, outdoor level, and so on. Although technologies measuring these factors exist directly, direct measurements of all factors are not always practical in most field studies. The purpose of this study was to develop an alternative method to estimate these factors by application of multiple measurements. For the total duration of 30 days, daily indoor and outdoor $NO_2$ concentrations were measured in 30 houses in Brisbane, Australia, and for 21 days in 40 houses in Seoul, Korea, respectively. Using a box model by mass balance and linear regression analysis, penetration factor (ventilation divided by sum of air exchange rate and deposition constant) and source strength factor (emission rate divided by sum of air exchange rate and deposition constant) were calculated, Sub-sequently, the ventilation and source strength were estimated. In Brisbane, the penetration factors were $0.59\pm0.14$ and they were unaffected by the presence of a gas range. During sampling period, geometric mean of natural ventilation was estimated to be $l.l0\pm1.5l$ ACH, assuming a residential $NO_2$ decay rate of 0.8 hr^{-1}$ in Brisbane. In Seoul, natural ventilation was $1.15\pm1.73$ ACH with residential $NO_2$ decay rate of 0.94 hr^{-1}$ Source strength of $NO_2$ in the houses with gas range $(12.7\pm9.8$ ppb/hr) were significantly higher than those in houses with an electric range $(2.8\pm2,6$ ppb/hr) in Brisbane. In Seoul, source strength in the houses with gas range were $l6.8\pm8.2$ ppb/hr. Conclusively, indoor air quality using box model by mass balance was effectively characterized.

  • In this study, numerical simulation has been conducted to investigate dispersion of a pollutant released from a new furniture, a kind of Sick Building Syndrome (SBS). A sofa which generates formaldehyde is implemented by using an immersed boundary method. Large Eddy Simulation (LES) is employed to obtain time-dependent velocity and concentration fields. It is shown that the ventilation efficiency in this room can be improved by changing inlet angle of diffuser, even though other conditions still remain unchanged. Both active diffusion near a sofa and air flow pattern are important parameters to enhance the ventilation efficiency.

  • This study aims to evaluate performance of ventilation and thermal about breathing wall by flowing air to indoor on appropriate conditions that is effective aperture area in the Central region(20, 50, $80cm^2/m^2$). The result is as follows : 1) Sectional temperature distribution of inflow and outflow out under the constant ventilation was reviewed. In the case of inflow, outside temperature increase effect was confirmed. 2) The more differences of temperature between outdoor and indraft of air was high, the more heat recovery was high.

  • The accurate distribution of flow rate has been a very important part to control the air change rate since introduction of house ventilation system. An inappropriate selection of fan due to incorrect prediction of pressure loss in duct brings energy loss. In the previous study the pressure loss of general spiral duct was measured and database was constructed for finding correct loss factors in fitting upper stream. The purpose of this study is to compare and investigate the error range of flow rate by applying T-Method to bilateral symmetry and asymmetry layout of duct. The results of this study are as following. It is demanded to decide accurate size under duct design for house ventilation system. Because the small amount of Flow rate was considered at that time. The error range was 3.17% on case1 and 3.52% on case2. The error range difference was 0.35%.

  • Indoor Air Quality Guideline of Kindergarten in korea didn't consider the vulnerable properties of children to indoor air pollutants. For this reason, Suggestion for the IAQ guideline of formaldehyde and minimum ventilation rate was made in this study. Suggested IAQ guidelines for formaldehyde in the respect of children's vulnerable immune system is $30{\mu}g/m^3$ and $50{\mu}g/m^3$, and for the ventilation rate 11.9 ACH, 5.8 ACH, respectively. This value is based only formaldehyde and CO2 concentrations in child-care room of Kindergarten and needed to be verified by further investigations and studies. However it is discovered that lower formaldehyde concentration can do mal-effects to children's health by literature review.
