Heat shock proteins (HSPs), one of the most highly conserved groups of proteins characterized to date, play crucial roles in protecting cells against environmental stresses, such as heat shock, salinity and oxidative stress. The glutathione S-transferases (GST) have important role in detoxification of oxidative stress, environmental chemicals and environmental stress. GST mRNA expression have been used as biomarkers on environmental stress. The purpose of this study was to investigate the death rate and the gene expression of Hsp70 and GST during air exposure and starvation. Results showed that, the expression of Hsp70 mRNA was significantly changed in the experiment groups, such as air exposure and starvation. GST mRNA expression was significantly increased in the experimental group of starvation. These results suggest that Hsp70 and GST were played roles in biomarker gene on the air exposure and starvation.

The performance of proton exchange membrane fuel cell was decreased by reverse voltage using fuel starvation. Performance decrease in local area could be affected by duration and extent of reverse voltage. Hydrogen and air stoichiometic ratio was used to find the experimental condition of abrupt voltage decrease. LabVIEW was used to make control logic of automatic load off system in preset voltage. Reverse voltage experiment was done down to -1.2 V at constant current condition. When fuel cell voltage was reached to preset voltage, electronic load was disconnected to make open circuit voltage for 1 minute. Fuel cell performance was checked every 5 cycle and the degree of performance decrease and/or recovery was estimated. Ohmic resistance and charge transfer resistance were increased and platinum surface area was reduced 41% after reverse voltage experiment.

Effects of reactant gas flow rates and starvation on phosphoric acid fuel cell performance were studied. As the reactant gas flow rates increased, the cell performance increased and then the cell maintained constant performance. The optimum flow rates of hydrogen, oxygen and air under galvanostatic condition of 150 mA/cm$_{2}$ are found to be 5cc/min cm$_{2}$ 5cc/min cm$_{2}$ and 15cc/min cm$_{2}$ at room temperature and 1 atm, respectively. Also the open circuit voltage of single cell decreased with increasing oxygen flow rate due probably to the decreased probably to the decreased oxygen pressure in the cathode side. Hydrogen and oxygen starvation resulted in voltage loss of about 5mV and 0-2mV, respectively. The voltage loss was independent of starvation time. These results were discussed from point of view of electrochemical reaction of the cell. (author). 9 refs., 8 figs.
Effects of reactant gas flow rates and starvation on phosphoric acid fuel cell performance were studied. As the reactant gas flow rates increased, the cell performance increased and then the cell maintained constant performance. The optimum flow rates of hydrogen, oxygen and air under galvanostatic condition of 150 mA/$\textrm{cm}^2$ are found to be 3cc/min${\cdot}\textrm{cm}^2$, 4cc/min${\cdot}\textrm{cm}^2$, and 15cc/min${\cdot}\textrm{cm}^2$, respectively. Hydrogen and oxygen starvation resulted in voltage loss of about 5mV and 0-2mV, respectively. The voltage loss was independent of starvation time. These results were discussed from the point of view of electrochemical reaction of the cell.
This study considers the feasibility of the concentration control of the feul and air by oscillating flow in the channel of Fuel Cells. Fuel Cell Stack performance is largely influenced by the fuel and air concentration. If the fuel and air concentration is lower than stoichiometry 1.25 of the fuel and 2.5 of the air, its performance deteriorates seriously because of the fuel and air starvation. In this respect the optimization of the fuel and air concentration is crucially important to maximize fuel cell stack performance. In this work, the effects of oscillating actuation are studied to control the concentration. Two important nondimensional parameters are introduced, each of which represents either the oscillating frequency or the oscillating amplitude. It is shown how these factors affect the stack performance and the efficiency of the fuel cell stack stack.
This study was conducted to investigate the developmental ability of caprine embryos after somatic cell interspecies nuclear transfer. Donor cells were obtained from an ear-skin biopsy of a caprine, digested with 0.25% trypsin-EDTA in PBS, and primary fibroblast cultures were established in TCM-199 with 10% FBS. After maturation, expanded cumulus cells were removed by vigorous pipetting in the presence of 0.3% hyaluronidase. The matured oocytes were dipped in D-PBS plus 10% FBS+7.5 $\mu\textrm{g}$/ml cytochalasin B and 0.05 M sucrose. The reconstructed oocytes were electrically fused with donor cells in 0.3 M mannitol fusion medium. After the electofusion, embryos were activated by electric stimulation. Interspecies nuclear transfer embryos with bovine cytoplasts were cultured in TCM-199 medium supplemented with 10% FBS including bovine oviduct epithelial cells for 7∼9 day. On the other hand, the NT embryos with porcine cytoplasts were cultured in NCSU-23 medium supplemented with 10% FBS for 6∼8 day at $39^{\circ}C, 5% CO_2$ in air. In caprine-bovine NT embryos, the cleavage(2-cell) rate was 36.8% in confluence and 43.8% in serum starvation. The developmental rate of morula- and blastocyst-stage embryos was 0.0% in confluence and 18.8% in serum starvation. In caprine-porcine NT embryos, the cleavage(2-cell) rate was 76.7% in confluence and 66.7% in serum starvation. The developmental rate of morula and blastocyst stage embryos was 3.3% in confluence and 3.0% in serum starvation, and no significant difference was observed in synchronization treatment between donor cells. In caprine-bovine NT embryos, the cleavage(2-cell) rate of cultured donor cells was 30.8% and 17.6% in 5∼9 and 10∼14 passage(P<0.05). The developmental rate of morula and blastocyst stage embryos were significantly higher(P<0.05) in 5∼9 passage(23.1%) than in 10∼14 passage(0.0%) of cultured donor cells. In caprine-porcine NT embryos, the cleavage rate was significantly higher(P<0.05) in 5∼9 passage(86.7%) than in 10∼14 passage(50.0%) of cultured donor cells. The developmental rate of morula and blastocyst stage embryos were 3.3 and 0.0% in 5∼9 and 10∼14와 passage of cultured donor cells. In caprine-bovine NT embryos, the developmental rate of morula and blastocyst stage embryos were 22.6% in interspecies nuclear transfer, 33.9% in in vitro fertilization and 28.1% in parthenotes, which was no significant differed. The developmental rate of morula and blastocyst stage embryos with caprine-porcine NT embryos were lower(P<0.05) in interspecies nuclear transfer(5.1%) than in vitro fertiltzation(26.9%) and parthenotes(37.4%).

High-rate WPAN doesn't define the time slot assignment scheduling method of CAT So, there has been many studies regarding time slot assignment scheduling of CAT. However, present studies involve demerits about not applying various types of errors in air interface or having a starvation of a specific DEV. In this paper, we propose algorithms about supplying the intermediate channel assignment in order to avoid these demerits.
This study was conducted to examine in vitro developmental ability of porcine embryos after somatic cell nuclear transfer. The porcine ear fell was cultured in vitro for confluency in serum-starvation condition(TCM-199 + 0.5% FBS) far 3~6 days of cell confluency. The zona pellucida of IVM oocytes were partially drilled using laser system. Single somatic cell was individually transferred into enucleated oocytes. And the reconstructed embryos were electrically fused(single DC 1.9kv/cm, 30$\mu$ sec) with 0.3M mannitol. After electrofusion, embryos were activated(single AC 5v/mm, 5sec) and cultured in HCSU-23 medium containing 10% FBS at 39$^{\circ}C$, 5% $CO_2$ in air for 6 to 8 days. The fusion rate of donor cells was 45.6, 36.8 and 46.1% in 3~4, 5~6 days of serum starvation and non serum starvation(N-S), and were 52.7. 53.0 and 51.7% in 1~2. 5~6 and 13~14 passages of donor cell culture, respectively. No significant difference was found in the fusion rate of donor cells by the duration of serum starvation treatment or the number of donor cell passages. By the size of donor cells, however, the fusion rate was significantly higher(P<0.05) for reconstructed embryos derived from 25r $\mu$m $\geq$ site of donor cells (65.3%) than that of 25~30$\mu$ m(42.5%) or 30$\mu$ m(45.5%)$\leq$ cells. The cleavage rate was significantly (P<0.05) higher in 3~4 darts of serum starvation treatment(67.1%) than that in N-S (50.7%) or 5~6 days of starvation(57.1%). The activation rate by the size of donor cells in fused oocytes was 56.5, 68.8 and 58.5%, respectively, and was not significant.

Wireless Personal Area Networks(WAPANs) are designed for short-range ad hoc connectivity among portable devices. They have gained much attention in the industry recently. One of them, High-rate WPAN, is designed to support multimedia traffic that requires high data rates. But, High-rate WPAN standards don't specify the time slot assignment scheduling method of CAT(Channel Time Allocation). So, there has been many studies regarding time slot assignment scheduling of CAT. However, present studies involve demerits about not applying various types of errors in air interlace or having a starvation of a specific DEV(data device). In this paper, we propose algorithms about supplying the intermediate channel assignment in order to avoid these demerits. This method will help other methods that use time slot assignment scheduling of CTA.
In past years the Paul Scherrer Institute (PSI, Switzerland) and the Karlsruhe Institue of Technology (KIT, Germany)) collaborated to develop a model to account for the active role of nitrogen in the air oxidation of a Zircalloy cladding. The "PSI-KIT Nitriding Model for Zirconium based Fuel Cladding" model was implemented at PSI into PSI-MELCOR 1.8.6. In order to make a preliminary evaluation of the effect of the new model on the evolution of full-scale spent fuel pool accidents, one spent fuel pool event was analyzed using the PSI research version of PSI-MELCOR 1.8.6, which includes the nitriding model. To adapt an existing input deck for the calculations, a sensitivity study was conducted to find an optimal nodalization for the analyses. The nitriding model results were compared to those calculated with the MELCOR 1.8.6-PSI without the new nitriding model. The results demonstrate the effect of the nitriding reactions in spent fuel pool accident progression. Moreover, they confirm the impact of ZrN formation during cladding oxidation in air when the oxidation reactions lead to oxygen starvation inside the fuel assemblies. The nitriding reaction led to higher chemical heat generation during the accident and to an earlier failure of the cladding than when the effect of nitrogen reactions was not considered. It should be noted that the nitriding model, as implemented in the PSI version of MELCOR 1.8.6 has not yet been conclusively validated. Thereby the results presented in this paper should be treated as a preliminary demonstration of the capabilities of the model.
