This study was conducted to find performance evaluation method for automobile air conditioner. Experimental facilities were constructed to simulate wide range of operating condition for the automobile air conditioner. Compressor speed was controled by variable speed electric motor and the power was measured through torque transducer and tachometer was used to measure compressor speed. Parametric studies were conducted in this study, to figure out effect of environment variables on the performance of the automobile air conditioner. The environmental variables are inlet air temperature, relative humidity and air flow rate for the evaporator and inlet air temperature and air flow rate for the condenser. Compressor speed is also changed. The results of this study shows that air flow rate of the evaporator is more sensitive to the performance of the automobile air conditioner than the other variables. However relative humidity of the inlet air of the evaporator strongly affects capacity rather that COP.
A zinc-air battery consists of a zinc anode, an air cathode, an electrolyte, and a separator. The active material of the positive electrode is oxygen contained in the ambient air. Therefore, zinc-air batteries have an open cell configuration. The external condition is one of the main factors for zinc-air batteries. One of the most important external conditions is temperature. To confirm the effect of temperature on the electrochemical properties of zinc-air batteries, we perform various analyses under different temperatures. Under 60 ℃ condition, the zinc-air cell shows an 84.98 % self-discharge rate. In addition, high corrosion rate and electrolyte evaporation rate are achieved at 60 ℃. Among the cells stored at various temperature conditions, the cell stored at 50 ℃ delivers the highest discharge capacity; it also shows the highest self-discharge rate (65.33 %). On the other hand, the cell stored at 30 ℃ shows only 2.28 % self-discharge rate.
Performance data in the literature on air lift pumps have been based primarily on pumps of long length and large diameter (high lift pumps). Since mariculture operations involve pumps of relatively short length and small diameter, performance data are required for efficient operation. To provide such data, an experimental apparatus was designed and fabricated to test all lift pumps from 2.1 to 3.4 cm inside diameter and from 40 to 300 cm in length. Instrumentation was provided to measure water flow rate and air flow rate as well as water temperature, air temperature, and pressure throughout the system. Results from this study correlate well with high lift pump data in that, for a given pump geometry, maximum water flow occurs for a specific air flow rate. Driving the pump with air flows larger or smaller than this optimum flow rate will decrease the pumping rate. The optimum flows are significantly different for low lift pumps compared to high lift pumps. However, the pumping rate for low lift pumps approaches that for high lift pumps with increasing length.
Successful energy conservation and good indcfor air quality (IAQ) are highly dependent on ventilation system. Air filtration is a primary solution of indoor air control strategies in terms of reducing energy consumption and improving ihdoor air quality. A conventional system with bypass filter, as it is called variable-air-volume/bypass filtration system (VAV/BPFS), is a variation of the conventional variable air volume (VAV) systems, which is designed to eliminate indoor air pollutant and to save energy. Bypass filtration system equipped with a high-efficiency particulate filter and carbon absorbent provides additional cleaned air into indoor environments and maintain good IAQ for human health. The objectives of this research were to compare the relative total decay rate of indoor air pollutant concentrations, and to develop a mathematical model simulating the performance of VAV/BPFS. All experiments were performed in chamber under the controlled conditions. The specific conclusions of this research are: 1. The VAV/BPFS system is more efficient than the VAV system in removing indoor air pollutant concentration. The total decay rates of aerosol, and total volatile organic compound (TVOC) for the VAV/BPFS system were higher than those of the conventional VAV system. 2. IAQ model predictions of each pollutant agree closely with the measured values. 3. According to IAQ model evaluation, reduction of outdoor supply air results in decreased dilution removal rate and on increased bypass filtration removal rate with the VAV/BPFS. As a results, we recommends the VAV/BPFS as an alternative to conventional VAV systems.

A numerical analysis of reactive flow in a MILD(Moderate and Intense Low oxygen Dilution) combustor is accomplished to elucidate the characteristics of combustion phenomena in the furnace with the change of fuel and air nozzle position and air mass flow rate. For the case with the fuel nozzle located near center position of combustor, the reaction zone started at the fuel nozzle and had inclined shape toward combustor wall when the air mass flow rate was relatively smaller. On the other hand, the end of reaction zone moved toward center of combustor from combustor wall when the air flow rate was relatively larger. For the case with the air nozzle located near center position of combustor, the reaction zone started at the fuel nozzle and had inclined shape toward combustor wall when the air mass flow rate was relatively small, which was similar as the previous case with smaller air mass flow rate. On the other hand, the end of reaction zone moved toward combustor wall when the air flow rate was relatively larger. The maximum temperature increased as the air mass flow rate increasing for both cases, and the concentration of thermal NOx increased also from the previous reason of temperature characteristics. The concentration of NOx for the case with the air nozzle located near center position of combustor was considerably smaller than that for the case with the fuel nozzle located near center position of combustor. From the present study, the case with the air nozzle located near center position of combustor and theoretical air flow rate was the most effective condition for the NOx reduction and perfect combustion.

An experimental work was conducted by using a laboratory-made model dryer to investigate the effect of the rate of natural forced-air on the drying rate of rough rice which was deposited in the deep-bed. The dryer consisted of 8 cylinderical containers with grain holding screen at their bottoms, each of which having 30cm in diameter and 15cm in height. The containers were sacked vertically with keeping them air-tight by using paper tape during dryer operation. Two separate layers of containers were operated in the same time to have two replications. The moisture contents of grains within each bins after predetermined period of dryer operation were determined indirectly by measuring the weight of the individual containers. The air-rates were maintained at 6 levels, or 5, 8, 10, 15, 18 and 20 millimenters of static head of water. The roomair conditions during dryer operation were maintained in the range of 10-l5$^{\circ}C$ in temperature and 40-60% in relative humidity. The results of the study are summarized as follows: 1. Drying characteristics of the grains in the bottom layers were approximately the same regardless of airdelivery rates, giving the average drying rate as about 0.35 percent per hour after 40-hour drying period, during which moisture content (w. b.) reduced from 24 percent to about 10 percent. 2. After about 40-hour drying period, the mean drying rates increased from 0.163 percent per hour to 0.263 percent per hour as air-flow rates increased from 5mm to 87.16mm of static head of water. In the same time, the moisture differences of grains between lower and upper layers varied from 12.7 percent at the air rate of 5mm of water head to 7.5 percent at the air-flow rate of 20mn of water head. Thus, the greater the air-flow rate was, the more overall improvement in drying performance was. Additionally, from the result of ineffectiveness of drying grain positioned at 70cm depth or above by the air rate of 5mm of static head of water it may be suggested in practical application that the height of grain deposit would be maintained adequately within the limits of air-rates that may be actually delivered. 3. Drying after layer-turning operation was continued for about 30 hours to test the effectiveness of reducing moisture differences in the thick layers. As a result of this layer-turning operation, moisture distribution through layers approached to narrow ranges, giving the moisture range as about 7 percent at air-flow rate of 5mm head of water, about 3 percent at 10mm head about 2 percent at 15mm head, and less than 1 percent at 20mm head. In addition, from the desirable results that drying rate was rapid in the lower layers and dully in the upper layers, layer-turning operation may be very effective in natural air drying with deep-layer grain deposit, especially when the forced air was kept in low rate. 4. Even though the high rate of air delivery is very desirable for deep-layer natural-air drying of rough rice, it can be happened that the required air delivery rate could not be attained because of limitation of power source available on farms. To give a guide line for the practical application, the power required to perform the drying with the specified air rate was analyzed for different sizes of drying bin and is given in Table (5). If a farmer selects a motor of which size is 1 or {{{{1 { 1} over {2 } }}}} H.P. and air-delivery rate which ranges from 8~10mm of head, the diameter of grain bin may be suggested to choose about 2.4m, also power tiller or other moderate size of prime motor may be recommended when the diameter of grain bin is about 5.0m or more for about 120cm grain deposit.

Indoor air quality is affected by source strength of pollutants, ventilation rate, decay rate, outdoor level, and so on. Although technologies measuring these factors exist directly, direct measurements of all factors are not always practical in most field studies. The purpose of this study was to develop an alternative method to estimate these factors by application of multiple measurements. For the total duration of 30 days, daily indoor and outdoor $NO_2$ concentrations were measured in 30 houses in Brisbane, Australia, and for 21 days in 40 houses in Seoul, Korea, respectively. Using a box model by mass balance and linear regression analysis, penetration factor (ventilation divided by sum of air exchange rate and deposition constant) and source strength factor (emission rate divided by sum of air exchange rate and deposition constant) were calculated, Sub-sequently, the ventilation and source strength were estimated. In Brisbane, the penetration factors were $0.59\pm0.14$ and they were unaffected by the presence of a gas range. During sampling period, geometric mean of natural ventilation was estimated to be $l.l0\pm1.5l$ ACH, assuming a residential $NO_2$ decay rate of 0.8 hr^{-1}$ in Brisbane. In Seoul, natural ventilation was $1.15\pm1.73$ ACH with residential $NO_2$ decay rate of 0.94 hr^{-1}$ Source strength of $NO_2$ in the houses with gas range $(12.7\pm9.8$ ppb/hr) were significantly higher than those in houses with an electric range $(2.8\pm2,6$ ppb/hr) in Brisbane. In Seoul, source strength in the houses with gas range were $l6.8\pm8.2$ ppb/hr. Conclusively, indoor air quality using box model by mass balance was effectively characterized.
This study is intended to understand mass loss rate and air entrainment rate of the whirl fire by height of fire source. Liquid fuels were methanol and n-Heptane which are used in many studies of whirl fire. Size of vessel was 100 mm ${\times}$ 100 mm ${\times}$ 50 mm and the vessel was made by stainless steel. When height of fire source changed from 0 cm to 30 cm, air entrainment rate showed the fastest in case of 0 cm. And in the same height of fire source, average and maximum air entrainment rate showed the fastest in 30 cm of anemometer. From the results of whirl fire for methanol and n-Heptane, mass loss rate and air entrainment rate of n-Heptane was found to faster 1.33 to 1.58 times and 4.38 to 5.44 times compared with methanol, respectively. Consequently, mass loss rate and air entrainment rate in whirl fire was able to identified decrease as height of fire source increases and the higher the heating value, increases the that's value.

In order to evaluate and improve the performance of local exhaust ventilation systems for two TCE degreasing (A, B) and two electroplating (C, E) and one acid dipping & plating (D) operations located in Kimhae, the performance test was conducted with trace gases and a thermal anemometer (Kanomax 24-6111, Japan). For the inadequately designed systems, the improvement and redesigns in compliance with recommendation by ACGIH was suggested. The results of performance test for each system are as follows; 1. System of Workplace A was generally well-designed. Actual exhaust air flow rate was in excess of 68% above the recommended standard exhaust air flow rate. 2. System of Workplace B was very well-designed and completely enclosed. 3. All systems of Workplace C including hoods were poorly-designed and actual exhaust air flow rates were insufficient for open tanks. All systems should be upgraded according to ACGIH recommendations. 4. Supply and exhaust air flow rate of push-pull exhaust systems in Workplace D should be greatly increased. The width of flange of dipping tank hood should be increased with the value suggested. 5. System of Workplace E was well-designed. Actual exhaust air flow rate was in excess of 54% above the required.

This study is investigated on flow analysis according to grill configuration of radiator. The stream of flow which pass through radiator grill in car body and the contour of pressure distribution are estimated by the basis. As the magnitude of resistance force which flow affects the car body is investigated so that the power reduction can be reduced. As the pressure inside radiator grill is assessed, more efficiency can be investigated in order that the flow rate inside car body can be increased. Model 2 has the most air resistance and model 1 has the least among model 1, 2 and 3. Model 1 has the most air flow rate at inside. There are model 3 and 2 simulated according to flow rate. As the curved surface at radiator grill configuration increases in number, air flow rate becomes distributed uniformly. By considering the effect on air resistance and air flow rate at radiator grill, model 3 becomes the most effective configuration.
