As an initial step to develop a liquid hydrogen pump of piston type operated under cryogenic and high pressure, leakage and piston head shape for the piston pump were discussed with temperature and pressure. As the results, the leakage depended on correlation among density, viscosity, clearance area by the low temperature. In order to reduce the leakage, it was found that the air-tightness can be improved by minimizing contact surface between piston and cylinder, and also increasing pressure in-cylinder can reduce piston clearance. Among the proposed piston shapes, D type piston shape had the most air-tightness. D type piston had smaller contact surface than other piston shape and easier expansion of cup shape by pressure. The leakage of D type piston shape was found about 7%, compared with A type piston shape. But it was required that analyze about vapor lock by friction and wear resistance.

An experimental analysis using three-dimensional Laser Doppler Velocimetry(LDV) measurement and computational analysis using the Reynolds stress model in FLUENT are conducted to give a clear understanding of the effect of blade loading on the structure of tip leakage flow in a forward-swept axial-flow fan operating at the maximum efficiency condition ($\Phi$=0.25) and two off-design conditions ($\Phi$=0.21 and 0.30). As the blade loading increases, the onset position of the rolling-up of tip leakage flow moves upstream and the trajectory of tip leakage vortex center is more inclined toward the circumferential direction. Because the casing boundary layer becomes thicker and the mixing between the through-flow and the leakage jet with the different flow direction is enforced, the streamwise vorticity decays more fast with the blade loading increasing. A distinct tip leakage vortex is observed downstream of the blade trailing edge at $\Phi$=0.30, but it is not observed at $\Phi$=0.21 and 0.25.

A restrict jetting air is applied against leakage flow to improve a sealing performance of conventional labyrinth seal. A CFD analysis and sealing experiment are introduced to evaluate a sealing performance of applied model. The base of enhanced sealing is explained as a reducing clearance effect by jetting air. As a result, the applied model can improve the sealing performance of labyrinth seal in spite of the wide leakage clearance.
2 K superfluid helium cryogenic system is the crucial component of many large accelerators. When the cryogenic system is operating at 2K@3129Pa, many room-temperature parts are connected to superfluid helium via tubes. Air Leakage in these connections may lead to air contamination of the cryogenic system. Air contamination may cause equipment failure in cryogenic systems and, in extreme cases, render the entire accelerator system inoperable. Helium guard is a technique that guards against air contamination of these sub-atmospheric pressure connections in 2 K superfluid helium cryogenic system. This paper introduces a typical 2 K cryogenic distribution design for large accelerators, and make risk analysis of air contamination. Finally, the analysis of specific leakage points and detailed engineering design are presented, which may be used as a reference when designing of a 2 K superfluid helium cryogenic distribution system.

The construction of long sub-sea tunnel does not provide the favorable condition for the installation of ventilation system to be used during construction due to the constrained construction space. For the ventilation system required during construction, the artificial island where ventilation shaft is located is constructed at some location along the sub-sea tunnel route, which requires a high construction cost. Therefore, it is intended, as much as possible technically, to minimize the construction of artificial island. However, this requires a longer distance between ventilation shafts, there-by causing increased air leakage at the ventilation duct connection points due to the higher fan pressure being required to deliver ventilation air. Previously the air leakage was studied as an important issue. In this study experiments were carried out to develop the improved duct connection method considering various conditions such as, tunnel length, etc. Additionally, its performance results with leakage rates are shown and compared to the "S" class leakage rate of SIA. As a result, the new duct coupling type of improved method is analyzed as applicable to such a 30 km long tunnel with the leakage rate of $1.46mm^2/m^2$, which is better performance than SIA leakage rates.

This is an experimental study to identify the performance of air-to-air rotary heat exchanger with polyurethane foam matrix. The experimental apparatus including heating AHU(Air Handling Unit), cooling AHU, sensor chamber, and heat exchanger testing unit was designed and manufactured in this study. The performance of heat exchanger with porous polyurethane foam matrix was tested with variations of the density and the thickness of matrix, regulating the wind velocity and the rotational speed of matrix. The actual heat recovery effectiveness, air leakage rate, and pressure drop of heat exchanger were measured and analyzed.
The cylinder without seal has a piston with air bearing which is partly cylindrical and conical shape. The description of system geometry is deviation by the flow rate equation. Then pressure distribution and bearing force equations are derived. Several non-dimensional parameters are suggested. The relationship among bearing force, leakage flow and geometry of the bearing is investigated by simulation. And determination method for optimal design of sealless cylinder is given. A prototype of sealless cylinder which had rod bearing with four pockets, five pockets, and six pockets was built respectively. As a result of leakage flow test, it is evaluation to air bearing in sealless cylinder.

Nonflammable mixtures of flammable and nonflammable refrigerants are possible as substitute refrigerants for use in domestic heat pumps and refrigerators. Refrigerant leakage from such a system is of paramount concern since it is possible that the resulting mixture composition remaining in system will reside in the flammable range. This paper presents a simulation of a leakage process of refrigerant mixtures. Idealized cases of isothermal leakage process are considered in this study representing a slow leak. Simulation is performed for selected composition of binary and ternary refrigerant mixture; R-32/134a and R-32/125/134a. Mixture compositions with respect to percentage leak of original charge are presented. In isothermal leakage process, both vapor and liquid compositions of more volatile refrigerant decrease during vapor and liquid leak, but the total composition of this component decreases during vapor leak and increases during liquid leak. Vapor and liquid compositions are determined depending on the vapor-liquid equilibrium relation of the refrigerant mixture. The refrigerant mixture left in the system can go to a nonflammable direction relying on which component in the mixture is flammable.
This study is experimentally analyzed to extract the major parameters affecting the performance of the smoke-control system and the relations of pressure difference between vestibule and supply air pressure zone effect of supply mass flow rate and leakage area in the smoke-control zone. To obtain this, the mock-up building of three-story scale with a total of 10 compartments was constructed, and several apparatus were also installed for in-situ measurement of the ventilation flow rate, pressure difference between compartments, smoke defensive air velocity, the opening-closing force of door, etc. This article show that pressure difference in the smoke-control zone is significantly related with leakage area of vestibule in low pressure region, leakage area of supply air pressure in over pressure region and both of them in pressure control region when the pressure control range of damper is 45 Pa~55 Pa.
