Preprocessing Miscanthus sacchariflorus with Combination System of Cone Grinder and Air Classifier

  • Considerable differences exist in the characteristics of size reduction and classification because of biomass species. Miscanthus sacchariflorus (M. sacchariflorus) Goedae-Uksae 1 is not used efficiently because of the imperfections of the processing technology for this biomass. Therefore, for the best use of specific biomass, improvement in the feedstock preparation of the biomass for processing, such as pellet manufacturing, is necessary. In this study, a laboratory-scale cone grinder and air classifier were designed and combined to investigate the performance of the combination system for M. sacchariflorus. The average equivalent spherical diameter of particles showed a close relationship with air velocity for air classification. The air velocity range to classify proper particles for pelletization was determined to be 6.0-6.8 m/s. The mass ratios of the collected particles to feed mass for four lengths of chopped M. sacchariflorus were 45.1%:46.1%, 39.1%:46.6%, and 44.1%:52.8% at the first, second, and third steps in simulating the multistep combination system, respectively.

  • 조선 작업장에서 사용되는 에너지원 중 전기 에너지의 30% 이상이 압축공기 생산에 사용되고 있으며, 압축공기의 상당 부분은 공압 공구 구동에 사용되고 있다. 본 연구에서는 에너지 효율이 낮은 공압 공구를 전동 공구로 대체하기 위해 7인치 BLDC모터 전동 그라인더 시제품을 개발하였다. 7인치 공압 그라인더와 대등한 성능을 내기 위한 전동 그라인더의 사양은 정격 회전수는 4,500 rpm이며 정격 출력은 1.1 kW가 되어야 함을 알 수 있었다. 특히 안전 기능으로 과부하 정지 기능과 정전 재기동 방지가 가능해야 한다. 이러한 사양과 기능으로 BLDC 모터 전동 그라인더 시제품을 제작하여 조선 작업장의 여러 공종에서 테스트 한 결과 다양한 장단점 의견을 얻을 수 있었다.

Reserarch for Possibility of ELID Grinding of Hard Disk Glass (HDD용 Glass Disk의 ELID 연삭 성능 평가)

  • In this paper, machining characteristics of glass for HDD media are researched. Nowadays HDD media are used globally as a data storage device. In generally, it is machined by the lapping. But the lapping process time is long and the productivity is low. In this reason, 1 examined the possibility of ELID grinding of glass fur HDD media. If the machining process of HDD media can be changed to ELID grinding, a product cost will be largely saved. The machines used in this experiment were a special rotary type grinder and a normal rotary grinder. The one has an air bearing spindle, the other has not. Experimental results show the possibility of highly efficient grinding and mirror surface can be achieved by the ELID grinding.

  • 조선해양 생산현장에서는 생산 용도로 다양한 에너지원을 사용하고 있지만 가장 많이 사용하는 에너지원은 전기이며, 전기의 30% 이상을 압축공기 생산에 사용하고 있다. 압축공기를 동력으로 이용하는 경우, 특히 그라인더에서는, 에너지 변환 효율이 전력대비 1/4~1/5 수준으로 매우 낮다. 본 연구에서는 공압 그라인더를 BLDC 모터 전동 그라인더로 대체하기 위한 연구를 수행하였다. 그 결과 7인치 공압 그라인더와 대등한 출력을 내면서 안전성과 내구성 면에서 우수한 상용급 전동 그라인더 시제품을 설계 및 개발하였다. 또한 시제품에 대한 현장 시험을 거쳐 다양한 개선방안과 설계개선안을 통해 향후 상용급 BLDC모터 전동 그라인더 개발을 위한 설계기술을 확보할 수 있었다.

  • This study was performed to evaluate the hand-arm vibration of the steel processing factory workers. Measurement, evaluation and as sessment were based on the International Standard(ISO 5349). The frequency weighted accelerations of the various hand-held tools and total exposure time were measured to assess the periods for the white finger symptom to occur. As a result, it was found that the air angle grinder and the air baby grinder are more harmful than other hand-held tools. It was also found that using various vibratory tools together is more harmful than using a single tool.

A Study on the ELID Grinding Characteristics of SF-5 Glass and Quartz Glass for the Nano Surface Roughness (나노 표면거칠기틀 위한 SF-5유리와 수정유리의 ELID 연삭 특성에 관한 연구)

  • The precision fabrication of glass is increasingly demanded for the latest industrial applications of spherical lenses, micro-optical components, and so on. In many cases, the surface roughness of glass is required to be minute for improving the optical characteristics. In this paper, machining characteristics of SF-5 glass and quarts glass are studied by using the ELID grinding process to get mirror surface and productivity compared with a general lapping process. A rotary type grinder with air spindle was used for the experiments. Mitutoyo surface tester and AFM were also used to measure the grinded surface of glass. As the results of experiments, they showed that the surface roughness (Ra) of SF-5 glass was under 7.8 nm and that of quartz glass was under 3.0 m using the # 8000 grinder. So, the possibility of highly efficient and accurate surface for optical components can be achieved by the ELID grinding process.

  • In silicon wafer manufacturing process, the grinding process has been adopted to improve the quality of wafer such as flatness, roughness and so on. This paper describes the effect of grinding process on the surface quality of wafer. The experiments are carried out by high precision in fred grinder with air bearing spindle. The relationship between the inclination of chuck table and the flatness of wafer is investigated, and the effect of grinding conditions including wheel speed, table speed, and feed rate on damage depth and roughness of wafer is also investigated. The experimental results show that there is close relationship between the inclination of the chuck table and the flatness of wafer, and the grinding conditions within this paper little affect the flatness of wafer and relatively high affect the damage depth of wafer.

  • An experiment about performance characteristics is conducted on a double chamber vane-type rotor. Three different rotors, which have 6, 8 and 9 vanes, are applied to the driver and various lift holes at the rear plate are used to increase the effective vane height. The inner diameter of a double chamber cylinder is ${\phi}27mm$, and the length of the cylinder is 65 mm. The maximum offset length between the rotor outer surface and the cylinder inner surface is 4.5 mm. In this study, specific output torques and powers are measured, and also noise and vibration are measured at the real operating situation. The operating torque on the double chamber is increased to 17% compared to the operating torque obtained at the single chamber which has the same size. The experimental results of noise and vibration show that the operating sound and vibration are directly related to the operating power generated by the double chamber rotor.

Preparation of Fine Silk Powder and It′s Application for Surface Modification (폐견사류의 미세분말화 및 표면 가공제 적용)

  • The purification, dissolution and powdering of stained waste silk obtained from weaving and dyeing process were studied for the surface modification of textile fabric and plastic materials. The whiteness of stained waste silk could be improved through degumming and bleaching with sodium hydrosulfite. The water-soluble fibroin solution can be obtained by dissoving the degummed waste silk in a boiling solution of 50% calcium chloride for 60 minutes. The salts and heavy metals contained in fibroin solution were removed by electric dialysis, wool fiber filtration and gel filtration chromatography. The fibroin powder was prepared by using a fine grinder after the alkali treatment for weakening the silk fiber. The fine fibroin powder of particle size around 30 ㎛ was obtained with a ultra fine-mill, while it was finer below 10 ㎛ with a ball-mill. The dissolved or powdered silk was applied to the surface of fabric with addition of the binder (a urethane resin). The moisture content of polyester and nylon fabrics treated with the silk solution was improved due to hygroscopic property of silk. The fine fibroin powder mixed with the binder ws coated on the surface of synthetic film by use of the air pressed sprayer. It was revealed that the hygroscopicity as well as the softness of fibroin powder coated film was much improved. Therefore, it is thought that the fine silk fibroin powder is applicable as an coating agent for the surface modification of plastic and synthetic leather.

Micro-Fibrillated Cellulose Preparation with Enzyme Beating Pretreatment and Effect on Paper Strength Improvement (Enzyme beating 전처리를 통한 Micro-Fibrillated Cellulose 제조 및 지력증강 효과)

  • Microfibrillated cellulose (MFC) or Nanofibrillated cellulose (NFC) has been used to reduce the use of raw pulp and to improve paper strength. The problem of MFC preparation is high manufacturing cost. In this study, it was carried out to prepare MFC after enzyme beating and estimated properties of MFC. Endo-D was the best beating efficiency among three type of endo-glucanase. As the grinder pass number increased, the viscosity and the fines of MFC suspension increased while the crystallinity and the porosity of MFC sheet decreased. Also enzyme beating MFC was higher value in the crystallinity and lower value in the viscosity than non-enzyme MFC. In addition, the aspect ratio of MFC was the highest at 5 pass. MFC addition improved the handsheet strength and the air permeability but worsened the drainage.
