  • The estimation of fatigue life at the design stage of the compressed air tank on board is very important in order to arrive at feasible and reliable solutions considering the total lifetime of the tank. In this paper the compressed air tank on board was selected as a model and the change of inside pressure of the tank during normal navigation period was measured and the cycle of fluctuation stress was presumed statistically based on this. Also the effect of stress concentration with the FEM analysis on the longitudinal weld and the mean stress effect on the fatigue strength of compressed air tank were discussed.

  • The systematic results of anti-rolling tanks tests obtained by bench tester and roll test in towing tank have been examined. The effects on the oscillating period of fluid transfer through the duct of U-tube tank due to damper plates and the effects on roll damping moment of the tank due to swash plates are alto evaluated from the results. A simple control algorithm for a forced fluid transfer in U-tube tanks if devised to active operation of the tank by air blower. The active performances of the tank are confirmed very effective through the tank tests carried out in the irregular waves.

  • Objectives: The purpose of this case study is to assess the current airflow and find the ideal ventilation conditions in tank reactors for minimizing the possibility of exposure respiratory dusts(size of $2.5{\mu}m$, $10{\mu}m$) when workers exchange catalysts in the tank reactors. Methods: A Numerical study was performed to determine ideal ventilation conditions, We considered two sizes of airborne respiratory particles($2.5{\mu}m$, $10{\mu}m$) at 12points from the bottom of tank reactor. We changed input & output ventilation conditions and analyzed the particle motion in the tank reactor. The star-ccm+, computational fluid dynamics tool was used to predict air & particle flow patterns in the tank reactor and a numerical simulation was achieved by applying the realized ${\kappa}-{\varepsilon}$ turbulence model and the Lagrangian particle tracking method. Results: From the results, the increase of recirculation air had a significant impact on removing dusts because they are removed by HEPA filter. To the contrary, Increasing the clean air quantity or changing the input position of clean air is not good for workers because it causes the exit of respiratory dusts through workers' entrance or cause it to remail suspended in the air in the workplace tank.

  • The repetitive vibrating action of an aerodynamic load causes an external fuel tank's horizontal fin to experience a shorter life cycle than its originally predicted one. Store separation analysis is needed to redesign the fin of an external fuel tank. In this research, free-drop tests were conducted using 15% scaled models in a subsonic wind tunnel in order to analyze the store separation characteristics of an external fuel tank. The store separation trajectory based on grid tests was also obtained to verify the results of the free-drop tests. The results acquired from the free-drop tests correlated well with the grid tests in regards to the trajectories and behavior of the stores separated from the aircraft. This agreement was especially noted in the early stages of the store separation.

  • Although DAF(Dissolved Air Flotation) has been successfully accepted for water and wastewater treatment, the fundamental characteristics of the process have not been fully investigated. Water is saturated with compressed air to dissolve the air into the water at high pressure in saturation tank. Then the water containing dissolved air is released into a floatation tank at a lower pressure, generating micro-bubbles that rise gently through the water and carry the suspended matter to the surface. This study investigated the removal of sewage using automatic mixture type DAF pump and non-powered flotation tank. Characteristics of two devices were compared and analyzed with samples. The results showed that the PAC exhibited higher performance than other coagulants. When air dosage was 2.5ml/l/min, treatment was stable in operation. In the DAF pump with a pressure of 4 atm., the average size of bubbles was 36.2${\mu}m$. Removal efficiency of SS was 80%. At this time removal efficiency of COD was about 80%, of T-N was 30% and T-P was 70% in stable operation. It was concluded that DAF pump system with micro bubble performed higher efficiencies compared to general DAF system for treating wastewater.

  • In this thesis, the Sol-Air temperature distribution for the side-wall of a cylindrical cryogenic storage tank made of nonhomogenious composite layer was studied, in order to calculate the thermal load by Newton's cooling law, when the solar radiation was applied upon the side wall. In the analysis, the atmospheric slab was assumed to be horizontal and infinitely large, and the Sol -Air temperature, which was found by the Net- Radiation method considering the longwave radiation wi th surroundings, was used for boundary condition. Energy equation and boundary conditions were normalized by the defined reference- temperature, and solved. The solutions were developed by the Fourier cosine series. Then, the Sol-Air temperature distribution for the side-wall of LNG storage tank was calculated.

  • There are many different types of tanks on ships that meet various requirements. Each tank is required to undergo hydrostatic testing according to the Ship Safety Act after being installed onboard. In some hydrostatic tests, excessive deformation may occur. The overpressure of the air in the tank generated during testing is one of the possible causes of deformation. Based on the dimensions of the tank, nozzle, and pipes installed, it was confirmed that the overpressure of the air can cause problems with the structure, according to the Bernoulli equation. Additionally, finite element analysis (FEA) was performed on the tank structure to confirm the deformation and the stress occurring in the structure. From the perspective of deformation, the maximum deflection limit was set based on the criteria provided by the Eurocode and DNV. From the perspective of stress, the structural safety assessment was performed by comparing the allowable stress and equivalent stress generated in the structure. To determine whether the behavior of the actual structure was well implemented via FEA, beam theory was applied to the tank structure and compared with the FEA results. As a result of the analysis, severe deformation was found in some cases. This means that the overpressure of the air may be the cause of actual deformation. It was also confirmed that permanent deformation may occur.

  • Experiments were carried out to evaluate performance of the cold air distribution systems with an ice storage tank in test room. Cold air distribution systems provide primary air for comfort conditioning or process cooling at coil discharge temperatures$4^{\circ}C$ to$11^{\circ}C$. The application of a cold air distribution system allows for the downsizing of air distribution equipment and central plant equipment when ice storage tank is used. The benefit of a cold air distribution system include a decrease in the floor-to-floor height, increase floor space, reduced building capital costs, reduced energy use and demand. The use of cold air distribution can result in the most cost effective system and is currently being implemented world wise as the new standard in air conditioning systems. In this study, the cold air distribution system is compared with the general ice storage system. Under the same cooling load conditions, experimental results show that the supply air volume of cold air distribution system decrease 38%, and decrease 45% flow rate of brine for the general ice storage system.

  • The odor occurring in the sewage system induces the displeasure, the disgust such as the headache, the vomit, etc. and increases the spiritual stress and disturbs the pleasant life of residents. These odors occur mainly in the area of combined sewage system treatment, being created in the personal sewage treatment plant such as septic tank and are incoming to sewage pipes and emitted to the outside through the manhole and the receiver, etc.; and this causes odors to the people. The Hydrogen Sulfide, the Methyl Mercaptan, the Ammonia, etc. are materials causing the odor, the more serious issue of odor is occurring since the septic tank of degradation process is being applied. The primary cause of odor is the decomposition of human feces in the septic tanks and sewage disposal facilities. The purpose of this study is reduction of hydrogen sulfide using air supplying and SOB(Sulfur-Oxidizing Bacteria). As a result of this study of the air supply system and the SOB media equipment by air supply, in case the air is injected to SOB media compared to the injection of air only, the removal efficiency the hydrogen sulfide was average 3.4 times higher.
