  • The substitution of conventional fuel oil by alternative fuels is of immense interest due to liquid oil shortage and requirements of emission control standard. Among the alternative fuels, natural gas may be the most rational fuel, because of its widespread resource and clean est burning. Meanwhile, engine simulation is of great importance in engine development. Hence a zero-dimensional combustion model was developed for dual-fuel system. Natural gas was injected directly into the cylinder and small amount of distillate was used to provide the ignition kernel for natural gas burning. The intake air and exhaust gas flow was modeled by filling and emptying method. Although the single zone approach has an inherent limitation, the model showed promise as a predictive tool for engine performance. Its simulation was also made to see how the engine performance was influenced by the fuel injection timings and amount of each fuel.

  • In this research we made cement particle with the average size of 4 ${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$ which can penetrate even minor cracks based on the theory of J. K. Michel who reported particles can penetrate the crack of width up to 3 times of maximum particle size. The inorganic crack injection materials were produced by adding superplasticizer. Physical properties of hardened slurry with JIS molds were also tested at 3, 7 and 28 days and the adhesion properties of the slurry in various process conditions were also tested at 3, 7 and 28 days. The cracked specimens which were repaired with slurries produced at various conditions were tested after 3, 7 and 28 days curing in the air and split tensile strength properties were characterized.

LPG 인젝터형 플라즈마 개질기 적용연구 (Application Research on LPG Injector type Plasma Reformer)

  • 본 연구에서는 LPG자동차용 LPG 액상분사 인젝터의 분사구 앞에 장착할 수 있는 플라즈마 개질기의 개발을 진행하였다. 이 개질기는 플라즈마 방전이 발생하는 영역에 공기와 LPG 연료를 분사시켜 고분자 탄소연료를 열해리시키고 추가로 수소를 발생시키기 위한 목적으로 개발되었다. 인젝터와 플라즈마 발생부와의 거리와 기하학적인 방전길을 최적화하여 개질 반응이 일어나는 인젝터 개질기를 완성하였으며, 개질 결과 공급 전력 70~100W 일 때 HC은 전체 개질가스의 약 0.7% 이며, 수소는 1.2~1.5% 발생하였다.

  • To construct the design back data for a lean-burn gas engine, we have designed a constant volume combustion chamber with sub-chamber. With constant volume ratio of main-sub combustion chamber and constant equivalence ratio of methane-air mixture, the influence of geometric configurations(diameter, injection angle, number, length) of passagehole upon combustion characteristics were studied. It was found that combustion characteristics in the main combustion chamber were greatly influenced by the injection angle and length of passagehole.

  • The objective of this study was to determine the developmental competence of in vitro matured bovine oocytes after intracytoplasmic sperm injection(ICSI) with frozen-thawed epididymal spermatozoa. The ovaries were obtained from slaughtered Korean native cows. Oocytes matured in vitro for 24 hrs were fertilized by ICSI with frozen-thawed epididymal spermatozoa. After ICSI, one group of oocytes was activated with 7% ethanol for 5 min, and second group was not activated. The follicular oocytes were cultured in TCM-199 medium containing hormones and 10% FCS for 24-30 hrs in a incubator with 5% CO₂ in air at 38.5℃. (omitted)

  • Phenomenological models for direct injection diesel engine emissions including NO, soot, and HC were implemented into a full engine cycle simulation and validated with experimental data obtained from representative heavy-duty DI diesel engines. The cycle simulation developed earlier by Jung and Assanis (2001) features a quasi-dimensional, multi-zone, spray combustion model to account for transient spray evolution, fuel-air mixing, ignition and combustion. In this study, additional models for HC emissions were newly implemented and the models for NO, soot, and HC emissions were validated against experimental data. It is shown that the models can predict the emissions with reasonable accuracy. However, additional effort may be required to enhance the fidelity of models across a wide range of operating conditions and engine types.

  • The present study describes the characteristics of combustion and exhaust emissions in compression ignition engines using diesel-gasoline dual fuel. For investigating combustion characteristics, diesel fuel was injected directly in a single-cylinder compression ignition engine with a common-rail injection system and gasoline fuel was injected into a premixed chamber installed in an intake port. In order to investigate exhaust emission characteristics, exhaust gas was measured by emission analyzer and smoke meter. The experimental results showed that cases of diesel-gasoline dual fuel combustion exhibited extended ignition delay and reduced peak combustion pressure compared to those of directly injected diesel fuel cases. Furthermore, premixed gasoline-air mixture reduced NOx emissions due to low peak of rate of heat release(ROHR).

  • 본 실험을 통하여 각 채널에서의 독성 농도에 따른 다양한 발광 패턴을 확보 할 수 있었으며 이를 바탕으로 본 시스템의 실제 현장 적용 시 나타나는 발광 패턴과 비교하여 독성을 분석하고 정성, 정량화 하는데 지표로 사용될 수 있다.

  • The flowfield of transverse jet in a supersonic air stream subjected to shock wave turbulent boundary layer interactions is simulated numerically by Generalized Taylor Galerkin(GTG) finite element methods. Effects of turbulence are taken into account with a two-equation $(k-\varepsilon)$ model with a compressibility correction. Injection pressures and slot widths are varied in the present study. Pressure, separation extents, and penetration heights are compared with experimental data. Favorable comparisons with experimental measurements are demonstrated.

Reduced Quasi-Dimensional Combustion Model of the Direct Injection Diesel Engine for Performance and Emissions Predictions

  • A new concept of reduced quasi-dimensional combustion model for a direct injection diesel engine is developed based on the previously developed quasi-dimensional multi-zone model to improve the computational efficiency. In the reduced model, spray penetration and air entrainment are calculated for a number of zones within the spray while three zones with aggregated spray zone concept are used for the calculation of spray combustion and emission formation processes. It is also assumed that liquid phase fuel appears only near the nozzle exit during the breakup period and that spray vaporization is immediate in order to reduce the computational time. Validation of the reduced model with experimental data demonstrated that the new model can predict engine performance and NO and soot emissions reasonably well compared to the original model. With the new concept of reduced model, computational efficiency is significantly improved as much as 200 times compared to the original model.
