  • SCRamjet is the key technology for hypersonic flight over mach number 6. It is characterized by very short residence time in combustor because its internal flow is supersonic. In this short time, the whole process of combustion must be done. Especially numerical study of combustor is important because air-fuel mixing rate influences the performance of combustor. Various methods of air-fuel mixing enhancement are proposed. Among these, cavity injection method is selected to study in this paper. The numerical study is conducted with the variation of the cavity length at the fixed height of unit and jet injection on the downstream of cavity.

터보과급기 부착 디젤기관의 급가속 운전시 응답특성에 관한 연구 (A study on the response characteristics of a turbocharged diesel engine under operation conditions of rapid acceleration)

  • 본 연구는 터보 과급기 부착 디젤 기관의 급가속 운전시 기관과 과급기의 과도 응답 성능을 규명하고 이를 개선하기 위한 실험을 수행하였다. 과도 응답 성능 구명은 일정한 회전 속도로 정상 운전중인 기관의 연료 펌프 랙을 10%에서 40%까지 일정 시간동안 급가속하였을 경우에 대하여 수행하였으며, 이때의 과급기 응답 지연 현상을 개선하기 위한 실험은 급가속과 동시에 압축기 출구의 흡기메니폴드 내에 일정한 압력의 공기를 추가 분사하는 방법을 이용하였다. 그리고 공기 분사 압력, 공기분사 기간, 가속률, 가속 시간 등이 압축기 출구의 압력과 온도, 터빈 입구의 압력과 온도, 실린더 압력, 기관과 과급기 회전 속도 등의 응답 성능에 미치는 영향을 가속전 정상 상태의 기관 회전 속도와 적용부하의 변화에 따라 시간의 함수로 나타내었다.

Application of a Turbojet Engine for Fire Extinguishing

  • Present study deals with performance analysis of an inert gas generator (IGG) which can be used as effective means to suppress fire. The IGG uses a turbo-jet engine to generate inert gas for fire extinguishing. It is generally known that a less degree of oxygen content in the product of combustion will increase the effectiveness of fire extinguishing. An inert gas generator system with water injection has advantages of suffocating and cooling effects that are very important factors for fire extinguishing. Some aspects of influencing parameters, such as, air excess coefficient, compressor pressure ratio, air temperature before combustion chamber, gas temperature after combustion chamber, mass flow rate of water injection etc. on the performance of IGG system are investigated.

  • The existing compressor steel seal used in automotive air-conditioner has the problem of oil leakage and deterioration in shielding performance, due to the abrasion and corrosion of the material. A new type of polymer resin seal studied in this research has the characteristics of high anti-abrasiveness and anti-corrosiveness, which can oversome the defects of the steel seal. In addition, the seal needs lower manufacturing cost and is appropriate to mass production, because it is made by the injection molding method requiring no mechanical processing. The profile generation program for seal mold has been developed using the gradient method, and the molding characteristics of the seal have analyzed through the flow analysis and the warpage analysis. The program has been verified by comparing the analysis results with the measured data of the test product. The research might be said to provide the basic method to produce the polymer resin seals with various types and dimensions.

  • The bubble cavitation and cloud cavitation are the major sources of cavitation-induced sound and vibration. A numerical method which predicts the trajectory and volume change of a cavity is developed, to predict the cavitation noise of a body. It is shown, by using the numerical method, that the cavitation inception and events rate is strongly dependent on the screening effect caused by the pressure gradient around a body, which is confirmed experimentally. Additionally, the effectiveness of a cavitation control method utilizing air injection is investigated experimentally. It is demonstrated that the noise level of the cloud cavitation can be significantly reduced by the air-injection method.

물분무에 의한 화재제어 특성에 관한 연구 (A Study on the Fire Suppression Characteristics Using a Water Mist)

  • The present study investigates the fire suppression characteristics using a water mist fire suppression system. Numerical simulations of fire suppression with water mist are performed with considering the interaction of fire plume and water droplet, droplet evaporation, and combustion of pool fire. The predicted temperature fields of smoke layer are compared with that of measured data. Numerical results agree with the experimental results within 5$^{\circ}C$ in the case without water mist In the case of fire suppression with water mist, numerical results dose not predict well lot temperature field in the gradual cooling region after water mist injection. But the predicted results of initial fire suppression are in good agreement with that of measured data. The reason of the discrepancy between predicted and measured data is due to the variation of turning rate during the injection of water mist. The effect of burning rate on the fire suppression is left as future study.

  • A promising new approach to achieve low pollutants emission and improvement of flame stabilities is tested experimentally using a hybrid cyclone jet combustor employing both premixed and diffusion combustion mode, Three kind of nozzles are used for LNG(Liquified Natural Gas) as a fuel. The combustor is operated by two method, One is ATI(Air Tangential Injection) mode, generated swirl flow by air as general swirl combustor, and the other is PTI(Premixed gas Tangential Injection) mode, The PTI mode consists of diffusion flame of axial direction and premixed cyclone flame of tangential direction in order to stabilized the diffusion flame. The results showed that the stable region of the PTI mode is more larger than the ATI mode. In addition, the reduction of NOx emission in PTI mode, as compared with that for the ATI mode is at least 50% in stable region. Also, even using the low calorific fuel as $CO_2$-blended gas, the cyclone jet combustor has high performance of flame stability.

  • Removal of gas in a mold has been a big problem in pressing mold or in injection mold. Air vent has been used to solve the problem, but it has weak points such as the Increased cost, the increased number of process. and vent marks on the surface of a product. In this study, the sintering method and rapid tooling method are used for making porous metal mold. Porous metal mold has many open pores, which are very small. When porous metal mold is used for pressing mold or injection mold, all process would be made short, produce cost would be down, and vent marks would be not leaved on the surface of a product. Characteristic of Porous material varies from sintering conditions, which are the length of sintering time, sintering temperature and sintering atmosphere etc. This study will find optimized sintering condition for the porous metal mold.

SCV에 의한 스윌 유동이 직분식 디젤 엔진의 연소에 미치는 영향에 관한 연구 (A Study on the Effects of Swirl Flow Generated by SCV on the Combustion Characteristics of the D.I. Diesel Engine)

  • Recently, many researches have been performed to improve the performance of the combustion and emission in a D.I.Diesel engine. One of the main factors effect on the characteristics of combustion is the characteristic of air-fuel mixing. Thus, swirl flow has been used widely to improve the air-fuel mixing in a D.I.Diesel engine. Since this swirl flow has interaction with other factors, in this study, the characteristics of the combustion and the flame effected by the swirl flow generated by SCV was investigated. From this experiment, the interactions of the swirl flow and the injection timing made clear. In addition, the effects of swirl and injection timing on the diffusion flame were clarified.

이산화탄소를 이용한 냉동·냉장 시스템의 성능연구 (Performance of Carbon Dioxide System for Freezing and Refrigeration)

  • Performance of freezing and refrigeration systems in supermarket, which utilized $CO_2$ as a refrigerant, was investigated by using the Pack Calculation II. The configuration of simulated systems was basic parallel refrigeration system, cascade system, and two-stage system. The $CO_2$ cascade system showed higher COP than basic parallel R404A system by 13% for MT and 62% for LT, respectively. Among the $CO_2$ cascade systems, R717(MT)-$CO_2$(LT) showed the highest performance. Open-type intercooler method showed higher performance than liquid injection for the two-stage $CO_2$ systems.
