Due to rapid economic growth, the usage of residential cooling electrical appliances such as air conditioners and refrigerators has increased dramatically for the last decades. In other to reduce its energy consumption, the authorities have applied energy efficiency standards for principal appliances, including refrigerator. This paper estimates the distribution of refrigerators using the Bass Diffusion Model and then performs economic analysis corresponding to enhancement of energy efficiency more correctly than existing methods.

The Home network system means that information appliances, Home PCs, etc., using wired or wireless network method enable to control and share with peripheral devices such as internet, shared data, a scanner and a printer, and it is networking solution, which intelligent communication will be possible as the system which can do a remote control such as TV Set, refrigerators, air conditioners, DVD players, digital camcorders based on external network using an internet, a potable information terminal and a mobile phone whenever, wherever and freely. In this study, the home network interface solution is used one of the wired network standards, PLC (Power-Line Communication) technology, so we can construct of intelligent home network's home controller without re-build a network at home. On keeping with current waves of thought, we will focus on a home controller development with great interest which is enabled to do an effective managed control, applying intelligent home network technology which can be new paradigm like a cyber apartment.

The compressor is one of important elements in refrigeration cycle and play an important role of refrigeration efficiency and quality. This paper analyzes slides in rotary compressors for room air conditioners, monitoring using Acoustic Emission(AE) technique. Reliability of rotary compressors which are factory-tested has been evaluated through visual inspection on taking them apart after long term test, which is life test. This paper describes methods for acquisition and processing of Acoustic Emission(AE) raw signal to monitor state of rotary compressor in Life Test.

The electric heat pump requiring HCFCs as a refrigerant has been for most residential air-conditioners in Korea. They cause a surge up electric power demand during summer. Moreover, the use of HCFCs and HFCs causes a serious problem to the global environment such as global warming and ozone layer destruction. An absorption chiller and heater could solve such problems. It was built and tested for analyzing the performance of the absorption chiller/heater. Experiment was done with a 1.5RT household absorption chiller and heater. It was experimented that the cooling capacity, gas capacity, COP were researched by the temperature of cooling water. The change of the cooling water temperature have effect the temperature(or pressure) of the parts on absorption chiller The result of the change of the cooling water temperature have the effects of the absorption chillers. This data will help to operate the household absorption chiller and heater.

The reliability of rotary compressors has been evaluated through visual inspection on them after long term test. This paper describes methods for acquisition and processing AE raw signal to monitor the state of rotary compressor. A detecting method of abnormal compressor in real time is suggested and special-purpose monitoring system which can be applied to automatic manufacturing line is developed using one-chip microprocessor at low cost.

Recently, it is increased to apply sensorless drive for BLDC (Brushless DC) motor to household electrical appliances, especially in the refrigerators and air conditioners, to reduce the cost and the acoustic noise by the operation and to make their functions more comfortable for human beings. In this paper, low-cost sensorless drive for BLDC motor is implemented by random PWM (Pulse Width Modulation). The experimental results show that the electromagnetic noise was reduced and the sound quality was improved by BLDC motor sensorless random PWM Control.

The waste home appliances including television sets, refrigerators, washing machines and air conditioners have increasingly received environmental concerns in Taiwan. In light of the enforcement of Waste Disposal Act (WDA), the Taiwan Environmental Protection Administration (EPA) has certified 60 recycling/storage facilities and given permission for qualified companies to build six treatment plants around the island. Now the recycling and well treatment home appliances are estimated to be 3,342,369 units until May 31, 2001. This paper describes the present status of waste home appliance recycle and its treatment in Taiwan. The principle guidelines and policies regarding recycling, resource recovery and environmental concerns are presented.

The purpose of this study is, by the method of the internet-based survey, to understand the relations between the residential condition and the characteristics of energy consumption. The followings are the results of this study. $\circled1$ Among 601 responses, evaluable 329s means that the user fully understanding what this survey is for. $\circled2$ Gas-or oil-burners occupy 80% of heater. $\circled3$ Contrary to expectations, we can not find out the relations between the cooling area and the cooling capacity of Air-conditioners. $\circled4$ There is no relation between the direction of apartment and the cooling capacity, neither. $\circled5$ During the summer, average and maximum monthly electric fare for cooling is ￦198/$\textrm{m}^2$ and ￦461/$\textrm{m}^2$, respectively. $\circled6$ And during the winter, average and maximum monthly electric fare for heating is ￦335/$\textrm{m}^2$ and ￦484/$\textrm{m}^2$, respectively.

This paper describes a series arc detection algorithm in a low-voltage wiring system. We designed and fabricated an arc detection circuit which consists of a high-pass filter with the low cut-off frequency of 170 kHz to attenuate power frequency. The series arcing phenomena was simulated by an arc generator specified in UL1699. In the experiment, various loads such as resistive loads, resistive loads controlled by a dimmer, and vacuum cleaners were used. Whether the signal is arc or noise is discriminated by pulse counts and periodicity of the detected signal.

A few years ago, The trains had little control equipment so the trains had little data transmission between control equipment. Recently, there is a lot of control equipment in a train as traction control, air conditioners and even internet access. for this reason, vehicle network must allow for the big amount of transmission data and must ensure the high reliability. In this paper we present monitering system for verify high reliability of data transmission of MVB of TCN which is an international standard of IEC 61375.
