Study on the Performance Characteristics of the Roof Mounted Electrical Air Conditioning System Using Inverter Scroll Compressor (인버터 스크롤 압축기를 적용한 루프형 전동공조시스템의 냉방성능특성에 관한 연구)

  • The objective of this study is to investigate the cooling performance of the roof mounted air-conditioning system using electric driven scroll compressor for zero emission vehicles. This air conditioner with air source was used R-134a as a refrigerant and tested under various operating conditions such as refrigerant charge amount and indoor temperature, and compressor frequencies. Experimental results revealed that at all tested compressor frequencies, heat transfer rate of the evaporator increased and the cooling COP increased with the indoor temperature. In addition, the heat transfer rate of the evaporator was over 25.0kW sufficient for the cooling loads of an electric bus.

  • At present, using of electromagnetic control valve (ECV) in external variable displacement swash plate type compressor is a common issue. Solenoid operated ECV controls vehicle air conditioning system through a pulse width modulation (PWM) input signal that supplied from an external source. Different port pressure controls the swash plate movement inside the compressor at certain angles that finally determines the refrigerant flow rate to the vehicle compartment for passengers comfort. In this paper, crankcase pressure flow (Pc flow) is calculated with some ECV samples with corresponding to amount of variable supply of current ranges from 0.20Amp to 0.95Amp.

  • The rotary compressor is widely used in the air conditioner because it is efficient and compact. Recently, the need for silent and efficient compressors is much stronger than the past. The new type muffler was invented to reduce the noise level and to improve the efficiency. The new type muffler that has two side discharge holes and dome shape resulted in much lower overall noise level, especially noise levels around 1kHz than the old type one of one center discharge hole in the acoustic spectra. Also it showed a higher efficiency of air conditioner by lowering oil discharging amount of a compressor than old type one of a rectangular shape and two side discharge holes. The noise reduction and efficiency improvement by the new type muffler were verified by tests for votary compressors and air conditioners.

  • Compressor radiated noise is one of the dominant noise for the outdoor unit of the air conditioner. Therefore, air conditioner makers are trying to reduce it continuously. Even though noise absorption and isolation technology are one of the important parts for reducing the noise from the compressor, it is usually treated to the substitute technology when the noise from the compressor is very difficult to reduce by the compressor noise control only. In this paper, we focus on the property of the sound insulation for the cabinet and measure it applying the theory of the sound transmission loss and insertion loss of the simple enclosure. The insertion loss is evaluated by the experiments according to the thickness and the aperture of the partition in the cabinet.

  • The hermetic rotary compressor is one of the most important components of an air conditioning system since it has a great effect on both the performance and the noise and vibration of the system. Noise and vibration occurs due to gas pulsation during the compression process and to unbalanced dynamic force. In order to reduce noise and vibration, it is necessary to identify their sources and transmission path and effectively control them. Many approaches have been tried in order to identify the noise transmission path of a compressor. However, identification has proven to be difficult since the characteristics of compressor noise are complicated due to the interaction of the compressor parts and gas pulsation. In this study, the statistical energy analysis has been used to trace the energy flow in the compressor and to identify the transmission paths from the noise source to the exterior sound field.

The Development of a super high speed motor driving system for the direct drive type turbo compressor (직접 구동방식의 터보 압축기를 위한 초고속 전동기 구동 시스템 개발)

  • There are screw, reciprocating type turbo compressor by structure in an air compressor which is essential equipment on the industrial spot. Recently, the application range of a turbo compressor tend to be wide gradually. And this type of compressor needs high speed rotation of impeller in structure so high ratio gearbox and conventional induction motor driving required. This mechanical system have results of increased moment of inertia and mechanical friction loss. Recent studies of modern turbo compressor have been applied to developing super high speed BLDC motor and driver which remove gearbox that make its size small and mechanical friction loss minimum. To accomodate this tendency, we tried to develope a super high speed motor drive system for 150Hp, 70,000rpm direct drive Turbo compressor using DSP(Digital Signal Processor) and SVPWM(Space Vector Modulation PWM) technique. The results of this specific application show that super high speed driver and controller could be implemented well with digital electronics.

  • An efficiency of a refrigeration cycle and a reliability of a compressor can be reduced if a refrigerant including excessive lubricating oil is exhausted from a rotary compressor. Thus, the oil behavior inside the compressor should be analyzed to improve the efficiency. A tested rotary compressor has been manufactured with visualization windows at upper parts in this study to investigate the oil behavior using developed visualization techniques. Discharge pipe with level gage has been visualized to investigate discharged oil amount. The oil behaviors inside the compressor and discharging pipe at various operating conditions have been analyzed. The results of the visualization for the discharging pipe have been compared with those of the upper part to confirm the accuracy.

  • Energy consumption of air-conditioning and refrigeration systems is responsible for about 25 to 30% of the energy demand especially in hot seasons. This equipment is mostly electricity dependent and their use in principle affects negatively the environment. Enhancing the energy efficiency of the existing equipment is important as one of the measures to reduce environment impacts. This paper reports the results of an experimental study to evaluate the impacts of the use electronic expansion valve and variable velocity compressor on the performance of vapor compression refrigeration system. The experimental rig is composed of two independent circuits one for the vapor compression system and the other is the secondary fluid system. The vapor compression system is composed of a forced air condenser unit, evaporator, hermetic compressor and expansion elements, while the secondary system has a pump for circulating the secondary fluid, and an air conditioning heat exchanger. The manufacturer's data was used to determine the optimal points of operation of the system and consequently tests were done to evaluate the influence of variation of the compressor velocity and the opening of the expansion device on the performance of the refrigeration system. A fuzzy logic model was developed to control the rotational velocity of the compressor and the thermal load. Fuzzy control model was made in LabVIEW software with the objective of improving the system performance, stability and energy saving. The results showed that the use of fuzzy logic as a form of control strategy resulted in a better energy efficiency.

  • Recently, rolling stock technology has rapidly developed. Nevertheless, ride quality and vibration vibration on vehicle still need more study. EMU to be operated on SMRT Line 7(SR001) extension section is applied to oil-free reciprocating air compressor considering maintainability and convenience of inspection. But reciprocating air compressor compresses the air by back-and-forth motion of piston, and spreads the vibration to surrounding structures by its force of inertia. Optimum design of mounting bracket is able to reduce the vibration. As a result, we analyzed the frequency spectrum on vibration upon value by measuring vibration during operation of air compressor. On this study, we comprehend the vibration transmission process of reciprocating air compressor and consider the measure for reducing vibration by minimizing propagation of vibration.

Numerical Analysis for Optimal Design of Heat Exchanger in Air Compressor for Railroad Vehicle (철도차량용 공기압축기의 열교환기 최적 설계를 위한 해석 연구)

  • In this study, we examined the multi-stage piston-type air compressors typically used in a railroad vehicle, and the heat transfer efficiency was analyzed according to the design conditions of the heat exchanger (a compressor component module for cooling the compressed high temperature air). For the fin-tube heat exchanger used in the most air compressors, numerical analysis was performed to analyze heat transfer by defining the various rectangle tube sizes and the number of fin-per-unit area as design variables under the same flow rate of compressed air. Also, this analysis compared the temperature of the compressed air. Regarding environmental conditions for analysis, the flow rate of the external cooling air was measured and the mean value of the values was applied. And a "turbulence model" was considered in both the external flow of the cooling air and the internal flow inside the tube. From the results of analysis, it was found that the change of the aspect ratio value of the tube greatly influences the heat transfer efficiency of the compressed air, and influences if the fin density is relatively small. As a result, the optimum design specifications of the heat exchanger for air compressors were confirmed based on the analysis of the heat transfer efficiency, according to the design conditions of fin and tube by the operating temperature range of the compressed air.
