Objectives : Because people have increasingly more interest in their quality of life, the anti-aging industry has grown worldwide. The purpose of this study is to suggest strategies for galvanizing the anti-aging industry in Korea. Methods : To accomplish this aim, we explored the definition, classification, problem and activating strategies of the anti-aging industry through a systematic review. Results : From the results, the following suggestions are given: planning a national strategy to galvanize the anti-aging industry, establishing an anti-aging research institute, developing a business model, developing an anti-aging cluster, statistics development and an information system related to anti-aging, training personnel, and legislation. Conclusions : The anti-aging industry has the potential to reduce health expenses through early intervention of diseases due to aging and through activation of the national economy by win-win growth of the industry related to aging. Therefore, understanding the anti-aging industry as well as political support is critical.

Korean population has been rapidly aging. Most of people regard the aging population as future crisis due to the rate of change and agree to prepare for a soft-landing on aging society in South Korea. Particularly, the aging population growth in rural areas is much faster than urban areas. Also rural areas relatively have poorer social and economic conditions so the countermeasures for population aging considering related social and economic indices are required. Moreover, each rural region has the different preparedness level for rural aging based on regional socio-economic characteristics. In this study, we analyzed correlations of the rural aging rate and local characteristics and developed an evaluation index to show the regional preparedness status for rural aging. To test the applicability of developed indicators, we applied them to 161 rural regions and assessed regional preparedness level for rural aging. This study would provide basic data for establishing policies for rural aging.

The purpose of this study is to explore the research and development(R&D) programs for effectively response of population aging. We analyzed of aging-related R&D support status by National Science and Technology Information Services(NTIS) and reviewed of foreign aging-related R&D programs. It was found that the overall lack of support systems, the R&D support status for Korea's aging society is very low performance and the difference appears in the annual support status, etc. It is very important to enhance the effectiveness of R&D programs in order to effectively prepare for aging society. I suggested support measures of the R&D for aging society by survey research. The result of this study will help in planning of the R&D for aging society and contribute to increasing of welfare for the aged.

As the operating time in nuclear power plants (NPPs) increases, the integrity of nuclear components may be continually degraded due to aging effects of systems, structures and components. Recently, a number of NPPs are being operated beyond their design life to produce more electricity without shutting down. The critical issue in extending a lifetime is to maintain the level of safety during the extended operation period while satisfying the international regulatory standards. Therefore, it is beneficial to build a monitoring system to measure an aging status. In this paper, the Aging Monitor (AM) based on lots of aging database obtained from the operating plants and research results on the aging effects was developed to monitor, manage and evaluate the aging phenomena systematically and effectively in NPPs. The AM for the CANDU is divided into 6 modules: (1) Aging Alarm/Coloring Monitor, (2) Aging Database, (3) Aging Document, (4) Real-time Integrity Monitor, (5) Surveillance and Inspection Management System, and (6) Continued Operation and Periodic Safety Review (PSR) Safety Evaluation. The proposed system is expected to provide the integrity assessment for the major mechanical components of an NPP under concurrent working environments.

Purpose: In this study, we sought to identify the impact of aging anxiety and successful aging on the personality traits of elderly. Method: Subjects were 108 elderly persons aged more than 65 years. Data collected from June to November 2015 were analyzed using descriptive statistics, t-tests, ANOVA, Pearson's correlation coefficients, and stepwise multiple regression. Results: With regard to the mean scores of personality traits, conscientiousness yielded the highest score, and neuroticism the lowest. The mean score on aging anxiety was below average, and that on successful aging was above average. Aging anxiety differed significantly according to age, present job, economic status, and health status. Successful aging differed significantly according to having a spouse, economic status, and health status. Significant correlations were found between anxiety and conscientiousness, extraversion, and neuroticism, and between successful aging and conscientiousness, agreeableness, extraversion, openness, and neuroticism. Conscientiousness and neuroticism had an effect on aging anxiety (23.2%), whereas conscientiousness, agreeableness, extraversion, openness, and neuroticism affected aging anxiety (45.3%). Conclusion: These findings indicate that personality traits reduce aging anxiety and lead to successful aging among elderly.

Aging is one of the major tasks that our country should resolve. To deal with aging problems, many countries have introduced various new concepts such as active aging, productive aging, and successful aging, well aging and anti-aging. This study suggests a new concept, digital aging, to tackle aging problems, and we use this concept to explore the new policy and policy areas for aged people. Since this concept is not well defined yet, this article focuses reviewing existing research literature. Instead of focusing the negative aspect of aging, this study investigates how to use the digital technology to build such images that the old man can be continuously learning, active and productive.

This paper aims at investigating the dynamics between aging population and local finance. In recent years, the aging rate has been accelerating the pace. The trend implies that Korea is moving towards the aging society, presumably, with unprecedented speed in the world. Aging society's biggest problems are centered around the explosive growth of the financial needs. In particular, these problems are apt to appear more seriously in local governments, as most of them are confronted with high level of aging population and poor financial bases. Firstly, it analyzes how the population structure in the local government impacts local finance, income and expenditure. Based upon in-depth literature reviews, this study examines variables related to aging population and local fiance. Secondly, it focuses on a series of positive and negative feedback loops which would reveal the essence of the mutual interaction structure between aging population and local governments' fiscal behaviors.

Purpose: This is a descriptive research examining the relationships between aging anxiety, perceived level of successful aging, and preparation for aging as well as factors influencing preparation for aging. Methods: Subjects of this study were 221 women aged between 40 and 59 years residing in area J. Data were collected from October 27, 2017 to November 9, 2017, using a structured questionnaire. The collected data were analyzed using the statistical program SPSS/WIN 24.0. Results: Regression analysis revaled that factors having a significant effect on the preparation for aging of the subjects were age, perceived health status, exercise, leisure activity, aging anxiety, and perception of successful aging. The total explanatory power was 42.3%. Conclusion: Based on the results of this study, it was found that aging anxiety and successful aging influenced the preparation for aging of middle-aged women. Therefore, it is necessary to develop a nursing intervention that properly manage aging anxiety and improves successful aging, in order to encourage middle-aged women to actively prepare for their later lives.

Objectives : This study aims to analyze the terms describing anti-aging effects in Dongeuibogam, and to propose the methodology for selecting medicinal herbs related to anti-aging effects. Methods : We considered aging or anti-aging theories by reviewing the major literature in korean medicine or traditional chinese medicine, and then we deduced the concepts describing anti-aging effects and the medicinal herbs for anti-aging effects. We investigated the medicinal herbs based on the terms describing anti-aging effects in Dongeuibogam and drew the methodology for selecting and classifying the medicinal herbs related to anti-aging. Results & Conclusions : The following conclusions could be drawn. 1. A set of causes and signs of aging in Dongeuibogam and a set of therapies for alleviating the aging signs in Chengumikbang, Yanglobongchinseo, and Nolohangeon was found. 2. Anti-aging effects should not be confused with disease treatments. Therefore, we defined the medical terms of anti-aging effects as "the terms expressing the effect of delaying or alleviating the subjective or objective signs of aging concretely". Based upon the terms of anti-aging effects, we defined the medicinal herbs for anti-aging effects as "the medicinal herbs whose effects are described in medical terms expressing the effects of delaying or alleviating the subjective or objective signs of aging concretely". 3. We considered Lycii Fructus, Asparagi Tuber in Dongeuibogam as examples of medicinal herbs whose effects are described in medical terms expressing anti-aging effects. It shows that we can select medicinal herbs for anti-aging effects by comparing the effects of 937 single therapies in Dongeuibogam to the terms describing anti-aging effects defined in this study. Futhermore, the results could be utilized as the basic materials of experimental study on anti-aging.

Aging phenomenon is an important issue in Korea national policy. This aging phenomenon depends on the social and environmental characteristics of regions. Also aging phenomenon and regional characteristics have spatial dependency. The purpose of this study is to discover the spatial changes in aging population rate and to find local factors of regional aging phenomenon considering spatial autocorrelation. For spatial analysis of ageing phenomenon, local Moran's I and Geographically Weighted Regression (GWR) were applied. As the results, the most significant changes of aging phenomenon appeared between 2000 and 2005, and most of hot-spot regions (aged regions) were distributed in Jullanam-do and Jullabuk-do. The results of GWR (R-square: 0.681) shows that total fertility rate, the number of doctor per 1,000 people and forest area rate have positive relation with aging population rate, but the number of private academy per 1,000 people has negative relation.
