Skin is continously exposed to ultraviolet (UV) radiation, the major cause of skin disorders including skin aging. Chlorophylls were well known as photosensitizer initiating subsequent chemical reactions such as photooxidative deterioration of cellular structures. This experiment was designed to elucidate the effects of $\beta$-carotene and ascorbic acid with chlorophylls on UVB-induced photooxidation in linoleic acid emulsion model system and skin homogenate of ICR mouse. In linoleic acid emulsion model system, the addition of chlorophyll and $\beta$-carotene accelerated the photooxidation, while high concentration of ascorbic acid prevented. The combination of chlorophylls, $\beta$-carotene and ascorbic acid, which concentrations are simplified from mustard leaf kimchi, prevented UVB-induced photooxidation. Although single treatment of $\beta$-caretene accelerated photooxidaiton, $\beta$-caretene acted as antioxidant in the combination with ascorbic acid. Similarly the addition of individual chlorophylls and $\beta$-carotene accelerated the UVB-induced photooxidation in skin homogenate of ICR mouse. 50 ppm of ascorbic acid did not show the any preventive effect, however 500 ppm of ascorbic acid effectively prevented the oxidation. Photooxidation was prevented in the combination of chlorophylls and $\beta$-carotene with 500 ppm of ascorbic acid and concentration rate of ascorbic acid plays an important role in the prevention of UVB-induced photooxidation.

The growth inhibition by nisin-Producing lactococci against Bacillus subtilis and its application to doenjang fermentation were investigated. Lactococcus lactis subsp. lactis IFO 12007, L. lactis subsp. lactis ATCC 7962 and L. lactis subsp. lactis ATCC 11454 were used as nisin-producing lactococci. All of three strain rapidly proliferated to more than 10$^{9}$ CFU/g in steamed soybeans. Only L. lactis subsp. lactis IFO 12007 was in steamed soybean without any pH decrease. In spite of the mild decrease in pH, the growth of B. subtilis was completely inhibited; no living cells were detected in a soybean sample inoculated with 10$^{6}$ CFU/g and incubated for 24 to 72h. The L. lactis subsp. lactis IFO 12007 was applied to doenjang fermentation as a starter culture. It produced high nisin activity in steamed soybean, resulting in the complete growth inhibition of B. subtilis, which had been inoculated at the beginning of the meju fermentation, throughout the process of doenjang production. Over-acidification, which is undesirable for doenjang quality, was successfully prevented simply by adding salt which killed the salt-intolerant L. lactis subsp. lactis IFO 12007. Furthermore, the nisin activity in doenjang disappeared with aging.

In our previous report, we indicated that not only BSA but also BGG played an important role in the allergenicity of beef. In this study, the effect of heat or high-pressure treatments to beef extract on the SDS-PAGE patterns was examined. The antigenicity of each treated samples was also investigated by Western blots assay with the sera of BGG-positive beef allergic patients. The BGG band and its antigenicity slightly disappeared but not generally in $100^{\circ}C$ group, indicating $100^{\circ}C$ treatment is not sufficient to totally eliminate the antigenicity of beef allergens. Compared with BGG band, BSA band significantly disappeared in SDS-PAGE with $100^{\circ}C$ treatment, indicating BSA is more heat- sensitive than BGG. When the beef extract was heated at $120^{\circ}C$, not only BSA but also BGG bands was largely disappeared in both SDS-PAGE and Western blots. High pressure (HP) treatment even at 600 MPa did not affect SDS-PAGE and Western blots pattern of BSA. On the contrary, BGG treated with HP showed visible changes in SDS-PAGE. 600 MPa treatment significantly reduced the antigencity. Interestingly, these behaviors of BGG were not found in the same experiments with pure BGG treated with HP. From these results, it was speculated that some kinds of proteolytic enzymes in beef extracts were involved in the BGG molecular degradation by HP treatment. The aging experiments of beef extracts treated with HP supported this hypothesis. Further studies are needed to clarify the function and working mechanism of enzymes associated with BGG degradation in beef extracts by HP treatment.

Statement of problem: Damping of the peak force transmitted to implants has been reported by in vitro studies using impact forces on resin-veneered superstructures. Theoretical assumptions suggest that use of acrylic resin for the occlusal surfaces of a prosthesis would protect the connection between implant and bone. Therefore, the relationship between prosthesis materials and the force transmitted through the implant system also needs to be investigated under conditions that resemble the intraoral mechanical environment. Purpose: The purpose of this study was to analyze the fracture strength and modes of temporary prosthesis when a flange or occlusally extended structure were connected on the top of the abutment. Material and method: Modified abutments of winged and bulk design were made by casting the desired wax pattern which is made on the UCLA type plastic cylinder. Temporary crowns were made using templates on the modified abutments, and its fracture toughness and strain were compared to the traditional temporary prosthesis. To evaluate the effect of aging, 5.000 times of thermocycling were performed, and their result was compared to the 24hours specimen result. Results: The following conclusions were drawn from this study: 1. In the fracture toughness test, temporary crown's fracture line located next to the screw hole while modified designs with metal support showed fracture line on the metal and its propagation along the metal-resin interface. 2. Wing and bulk structure didn't show significant difference in the fracture toughness (p>0.05), but wing structure showed stress concentration on the screw hole area compared to bulk structure which showed even stress distribution. 3. In the fracture toughness test after thermocycling, wing and bulk structure showed increased or similar results in metal supported area while off-metal area and temporary crown showed decreased results. 4. In the strain measurement after thermocycling, its value increased in the temporary and bulk structure. However, wing structure showed decreased value in the loading point while increased value in the screw hole area. Conclusion: Wing type design showed compatible result to the bulk type that its application with composite resin prosthesis to the implant dentistry is considered promising.

Objectives: To find evidence that sleep is necessary for normal brain function, thus indicating that declines in both sleep quality and quantity are related to worse performance of many daily tasks and deteriorated physical functions. The present study investigates the relationships of balance control and reaction time with sleep quality. Methods: 58 healthy (male 20, female 38) volunteers with informed consent participated in this study. The Self-reported Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index (PSQI) was used to evaluate sleep quality and relevant factors, and the subjects were divided into groups A (PSQI < 5) and B ($PSQI{\geq}5$) based on this index. Static balance control and reaction time to visual stimuli were conducted to assess their relationship with sleep quality. Results: Group B exhibited excessive daytime sleepiness significantly more often compared to group A. Static balance control did not markedly change relative to sleep quality, but reaction time and error to visual stimuli were significantly increased in group B compared to group A. Conclusion: These findings indicate that a decline in sleep quality can result in delayed reactions, as well as decreased accuracy of these reactions. They also suggest that low sleep quality may be associated with changes in physical functions, including balance control through reduced selective attention.
This study examined whether a relationship between retirement transitions and psychological well-being of the elderly may differ by gender and residential areas, and whether associative factors of psychological well-being may vary by gender and residential areas. The sample included 1,124 older adults aged 60 and over, which derived from the first wave and the third wave data of the "Aging and the Quality of Life of the Elderly in Korea: A Longitudinal Study" living in Seoul and Chuncheon. The total sample was divided into four sub-samples(urban male elders, rural male elders, urban female elders, and rural female elders) to answer research questions. Psychological well-being was measured by measured by the PGCMS developed by Lawton, and a retirement variable had four categories: being continuously non-retired, newly retired, newly non-retired, and being continuously retired with a reference group of being continuously non-retired. Multivariate OLS regression was run separately for the four groups. For urban male elders, retirement transition was associated with worse psychological well-being whereas no relationship between retirement transitions and psychological well-being was found for rural male elders, urban female elders, and rural female elders. Associative factors of psychological well-being varied by gender and residential areas. The findings implies that a relationship between retirement transitions and psychological well-being of the elderly may differ by gender and residential areas, and these differential effects of retirement transitions may be attributable to different life experiences and economic activities through a life course and different roles after retirement. Also, different associative factors of psychological well-being for the four sub-samples reflect variations in their different life course.
The pattern of liquor consumers started to change as the well-being trend and great interest in health have risen for the last few years. In particular, consumption of wine is gradually increasing with the findings revealing that drinking proper amount of wine is good for preventing various adult diseases such as sclerosis of the arteries, heart disease and aging. Accordingly, this study aims at understanding the importance of wine buyers' choice attributes when buying and drinking wine in order to contribute to satisfying customers, popularizing wine and expanding its base. From December 1 to 31 in 2008, it made a survey on natives and weekly settled population living in Seoul area who had bought wine at a wine retail shop with literature and positive researches. It made an application of SPSS 12.0 to analyze the importance of wine buyers' choice attribution based on the demographical characteristics and use behavior with such analysis methods as the frequency analysis, the factor analysis, the reliability test, ANOVA and multiple regression. The results are summarized as follows. First, it showed that there are significant differences between buying and drinking wine by producing countries, buying places, prices, companions except for the number of drinking times, drinking places, and information sources. Second, it showed that wine buyers' choice attributes such as brand characteristics and effects on health have a positive effect on customer satisfaction.

Purpose : This study attempted to observe the correlation between the activity levels and interpersonal relationships of elderly people. Method : This study implemented the Relationship Change Scale (RCS) and the Korean Activity Card Sort (K-ACS) on elderly people who use community welfare centers in the Busan and Ulsan areas from May 28, 2015 to August 26, 2015. Results : Total ACS scores and sensitivity showed a high correlation with .326. Next, instrumental activities of daily living and sensitivity showed a high correlation of .287, and instrumental activities of daily living and sense of satisfaction showed a high correlation of .277. However, social activities showed no correlation with the subcategories of interpersonal relationships. Conclusion : People who adequately carry out their roles in daily living and enjoy leisure activities showed high scores in interpersonal relationship satisfaction, understandability, sensitivity, and openness. This shows that it is necessary for elderly people to have interest in successful aging such as participation in activities that exceed welfare through simple medical support or interpersonal relationships and in demands related to the quality of life.

The purpose of this study was to examine the level of recognition, information acquisition behavior, level of knowledge, level of behaviors to decrease exposure, and education need towards endocrine disruptors of middle and high school students. The data were collected from 180 middle and high school students in Seoul, Incheon, Daejeon, Daegu, Busan and Gwangju. Frequencies, Cronbach's alpha, t tests, analysis of variance, Duncan's multiple range tests, and chi-square tests were carried out by SPSS WINDOWS Version 14.0. The results of this study were as follows. The level of concerns about endocrine disruptors was somewhat low. Many respondents obtained information about endocrine disruptors from TV/radio and school, and wanted to get the information from school and TV/radio. Both the level of knowledge and the level of behaviors to decrease exposure were not particularly high. In addition, they showed high level of education need for endocrine disruptors.

Philosophical and social backgrounds and inquiring into new direction of Practical Arts and Home Economics Education is done through this paper. The overall review of the related documents, records, books has been done, and research findings are presented as follows; Thought(Educational theory and Philosophy) for Korean Practical Arts Education is based on Learning to Labor, Practical Science and Pragmatism. Korean curriculum for Home Economics were originated in Confucianism background, which stressed the importance of different gender roles for men and women. However, Korean Home Economics based on Home Economics Subject Matter has been developed without philosophical base unlike that of American Pragmatism and Critical Theory. Therefore, scientific recognition in a section of value recognition was separated and developed so far. Thus, we could not answer to social missions about keeping values of life corresponding with changing environment I also observed the analysis of revision curriculum of the mentioned subject, and the changes of concepts of Work and Prasix, necessity of Home Economics Education for fixing about a basic life education and a basic life skill, and reinforcement of the function in Home. And then, new directions is proposed that the role of Home Economics Education in school be reinforced for the upcoming low birth rate and the aging society(high proportion of the aged people). Because Characters on correct values of children and youths might be nurtured in home foremost.
