Studies on the Ore Mineralogy and Litho-geochemistry of the Sheba Deposit, Barberton Greenstone Belt, South Africa

  • Ore criteria at the Sheba Deposit indicate orogenic mineralization type. Rocks and mineral assemblages suggest low formation-temperature of green-schist facies. Pyrite found in two generations; Type1 is irregular grains, contains higher arsenic and gold contents, compared to the relatively younger phase Type2 pyrite, which is composed of euhedral grains, found adjacent to late quartz-carbonate veins or at rims of type1 pyrite. Two gold generations were identified; type1 found included in sulphides (mainly pyrite). The second gold type was remobilized (secondary) into free-lodes within silicates (mainly quartz). Gold fineness is high, as gold contains up to 95 wt. % Au, Ag up to 3.5 wt. %, and traces of Cu, Ni, and Fe. Pyrite type2 contains tiny mineral domains (rich in Al, Mn, Hg, Se, Ti, V, and Cr). Zoning, and replacement textures are common, suggesting multiple mineralization stages. The distribution and relationships of trace elements in pyrite type2 indicate three formation patterns: (1) Al, Mn, Hg, Se, Ti, V, Cr, and Sn are homogeneously distributed in pyrite, reflecting a synchronous formation. (2) As, Ni, Co, Zn, and Sb display heterogeneous distribution pattern in pyrite, which may indicate post-formation existence due to other activities. (3) Au and Ag show both distribution patterns within pyrite, suggesting that gold is found both in microscopic phases and as chemically bounded phase.

UBM이 단면 증착된 Si-Wafer에 대한 Pb-free 솔더의 무플럭스 젖음 특성 (The Fluxless Wetting Properties of UBM-Coated Si-Wafer to the Pb-Free Solders)

  • The fluxless wetting properties of UBM-coated Si-wafer to the binary lead-free solders(Sn-Ag, Sn-Sb, Sjn-In, Sn0Bi) were estimated by wetting balance method. With the new wettability indices from the wetting curves of one side coated specimen, the wetting property estimation of UBM-coated Si-wafer was possible. For UBM of Si-chip, Au/Cu/Cr UBm was better than au/Ni/TI in the point of wetting time/ At general reflow process temperature, the wettability of high melting point solders(Sn-Sb, Sn-Ag) was better than that of low melting point one(Sn-Bi, Sn-In). The contact angle of the one side coated Si-plate to the solder could be calculated from the force balance equation by measuring the static state force and the tilt angle.

싸리버섯의 정미성분(呈味成分)과 Mineral에 관(關)한 연구(硏究) (Study on the tasty constituents and minerals in Clavariaceae botrytis)

  • 싸리버섯의 정미성분(呈味成分)인 유리 amino acid 유기산 유리당과 무기성분의 종류를 검소(檢素)하고 함량을 측정한 결과는 다음과 같다. 1) 유리 amino acid로서 isoleucine valine threonine alanine methionine cysteine glutamine histidine glutamic acid aspartic acid 등(等)이 존재하고, 이 가운데서 aspartic acid가 가장 많이 함유되어 있어서 싸리버섯의 amino acid를 aspartic 계로 보았다. 2) 유기산으로서 succinic acid citric acid malic acid fumaric acid 등(等)이 존재하고 이 가운데서 succinic acid가 가장 많았다. 3) 유리당으로서 fructose glucose sucrose maltose 등(等)이 존재하고 이 가운데서 glucose sucrose가 전(全) 당(糖)의 80% 이상(以上)이었다. 4) 무기성분으로서 atomic absorption spectrophotometer에 의(依)하여 K Na Mg Ca Cu Mn Zn Fe을 검출 정량하였고, 발광분광분석으로 다시 Al B Bi Ag Ti Sr Cr Pb 등(等)을 검출할 수 있었다. 이들 무기성분 가운데서 K가 가장 많았으며, Ca의 양(量)이 극히 적음이 주목되었다.

  • 휴대용 X-선 형광 분석기의 개발을 위한 기초연구로서 휴대용 및 bench-top X-선 형광 분석기를 이용하여 오일 시료 중의 Na, Mg, Al, Si, P, Ca, Ti, V, Cr, Mn, Fe, Ni, Cu, Zn, Mo, Ag, Cd, Sn, Ba, Pb 등 20종의 마찰 금속 원소들을 비교 분석하였다. 마찰 금속 원소의 농도가 10~900 mg/kg으로 함유된 오일 인증표준물질을 구입하여 측정 시간 등에 따른 최적 분석조건을 확립하고, 각 마찰 금속 원소에 대한 검량곡선을 작성하였다. 마찰 금속 원소가 함유된 오일 인증표준물질 및 시판 중인 엔진오일 시료의 주행 전 후의 금속 원소 농도를 empirical 법 및 fundamental parameter 법으로 정량분석하고 그 결과를 비교하였다.

$PbWO_{4}-TiO_{2}-CuO-B_{2}O_{3}$ 세라믹의 고주파 유전특성 (Microwave Dielectric Properties of $PbWO_{4}-TiO_{2}-CuO-B_{2}O_{3}$ Ceramics)

  • PbWO$_4$ can be densified at 85$0^{\circ}C$ and it shows fairy good microwave dielectric properties; dielectric constant($\varepsilon$$_{r}$) of 21.5, quality factor(Q $\times$f$_{0}$) of 37,224 GHz, and temperature coefficient of resonant frequency($\tau$/suf f/) of -31ppm/$^{\circ}C$. Due to its low sintering temperature, PbWO$_4$ can be used as a multilayered chip component at microwave frequency with high electrical performance by using high conductive electrode metals such as Ag and Cu. However, in order to use this material for microwave communication devices, the $\tau$$_{f}$ of PbWO$_4$ must be stabilized to near zero with high Q$\times$f$_{0}$. In present study, PbWO$_4$ was modified by adding TiO$_2$, B$_2$O$_3$, and CuO in order to improve the microwave dielectric properties without increasing the sintering temperature. The addition of TiO$_2$ increased the $\tau$$_{f}$ and $\varepsilon$$_{r}$, due to its high rr(200ppm/$^{\circ}C$) and $\varepsilon$$_{r}$(100). However, the addition of TiO$_2$ reduced the Q$\times$f$_{0}$ value. When the mot ratio of PbWO$_4$ and TiO$_2$ was 0.913:7.087, near zero $\tau$$_{f}$(0.2ppm/$^{\circ}C$) was obtaibed with $\varepsilon$$_{r}$=22.3, and Q$\times$f/$_{0}$=21,443GHz. With this composition, various amount of B$_2$O$_3$ and CuO were added in order to improve the quality factor. The addition, of B$_2$O$_3$ decreased the $\varepsilon$$_{r}$. However, increased Q$\times$f$_{0}$ and $\tau$$_{f}$. When 2.5 wt% of B$_2$O$_3$ was added to the 0.913PbWO$_4$-0.087TiO$_2$ ceramic, $\tau$$_{f}$ =8.2, $\varepsilon$$_{r}$=20.3, Q$\times$f$_{0}$=54784 GHz. When CuO added to the 0.913PbWO$_4$-0.087TiO$_2$ ceramic, $\tau$$_{f}$ was continuously decreased. And $\varepsilon$$_{r}$ . and Q$\times$f$_{0}$ were increased up to 1.0 wt% then decreased. At 0.1 wt% of CuO addition, the 0.913PbWO$_4$-7.087Ti0$_2$ Ceramic Showed $\varepsilon$$_{r}$=23.5, $\tau$$_{f}$=4.4ppm/$^{\circ}C$, and Q$\times$f$_{0}$=32,932 GHz.> 0/=32,932 GHz.X>=32,932 GHz.> 0/=32,932 GHz.

A$_2$O$_3$세라믹과 Ni-Cr-Mo鋼과의 인서트 合金을 이용한 擴散接合에 關한 硏究 (A study on the diffusion bonding of the $Al_2$O$_3$ ceramics to metal)

  • The joining methods of ceramics to metals which can be expected to obtain high temperature strength are mainly classified into the solid-state diffusion bonding method and the active brazing method. Between these two, the solid-state diffusion bonding method is given attentions as substituting method for active brazing method due to being capable of obtaining higher bonding strength at high temperature and accurate bonding. In this paper, the solid-state diffusion bonding of $Al_{2}$O$_{3}$ ceramics to Ni-Cr-Mo alloy steel (SNCM21) using insert metal was carried out. The insert metal employed in this study was experimentally home-made, Ag-Cu-Ti alloy. Influence of several bonding parameters of $Al_{2}$O$_{3}$SNCM21 joint was quantitatively evaluated by bonding strength test, and microstructural analyses at the interlayer were performed by SEM/EDX. From above experiments, the optimum bonding condition of the solid-state diffusion bonding of $Al_{2}$O$_{3}$/SNCM21 using Ag-Cu-Ti insert metal was determined. Futhermore, high temperature strength and thermal-shock properties of $Al_{2}$O$_{3}$/SNCM21 joint were also examined. The results obtained are as follows. 1. The maximum bonding strength was obtained at the temperature of 95% melting point of insert metal. 2. The high temperature strength of $Al_{2}$O$_{3}$/SNCM21 joint appeared to bemaximum value at test temperature 500.deg.C and the bonding strength with increasingtemperature showed parabolic curve. 3. The strength of thermal-shocked specimens was far deteriorated than those of as-bonded specimens. Especially, water-quenched specimen after heated up to 600.deg. C was directly fractured in quenching.

MOCVD를 이용한 금속 촉매 종류에 따른 β-Ga2O3 나노 와이어의 제작과 특성 (Catalytic synthesis and properties of β-Ga2O3 nanowires by metal organic chemical vapor deposition)

  • Metal organic chemical vapor deposition(MOCVD) 방법을 이용하여 금속 촉매에 따른 ${\beta}-Ga_2O_3$ 나노 와이어의 제작과 특성에 대해 연구하였다. 본 연구의 성장 조건에서 ${\beta}-Ga_2O_3$ 나노 와이어의 성장이 가능한 금속 촉매는 Au, Cu 그리고 Ni이 있었으며 각 금속 촉매로 성장한 나노 와이어는 성장률과 형상에 많은 차이가 있었다. Ni 촉매 성장의 경우에는 Vapor-Solid(VS) 과정이 ${\beta}-Ga_2O_3$ 나노 와이어 성장의 주된 메커니즘이고 Au, Cu 촉매 성장의 경우에는 Vapor-Liquid-Solid(VLS) 과정이 주된 성장 메커니즘 임을 확인할 수 있었다. 또한, 촉매의 종류에 따라서 ${\beta}-Ga_2O_3$ 나노 와이어의 광학적 특성도 다르게 나타나는 것을 확인할 수 있었다. 반면, 동일한 성장 조건에서 Ti, Ag 그리고 Sn 금속은 나노 와이어 성장을 위한 촉매로 작용하지 못하였다. 본 연구에서는 금속 촉매에 따른 나노 와이어의 성장 가능 여부와 성장한 나노 와이어의 특성 변화가 금속 촉매의 녹는 점, 금속- Ga의 공융 점과 관련이 있음을 상태도와 연관 지어 밝혀내었다.

Nanoscale Longitudinal Normal Strain Behavior of ${Si_3}{N_4}$-to-ANSI 304L Brazed Joints under Pure Bending Condition

  • To combine the mechanical advantages of ceramics with those of metals, one often uses both materials within one composite component. But, as known, they have different material properties and fracture behaviors. In this study, a four-point bending test is carried out on $Si_3N_4$ joined to ANSI 304L stainless steel with a Ti-Ag-Cu filler and a Cu interlayer at room temperature to evaluate their longitudinal strain behaviors. And, to detect localized strain, a couple of strain gages are pasted near the joint interfaces of the ceramic and metal sides. The normal strain rates are varied from $3.33{\times}10^5$ to $3.33{\times}10^{-1}s^{-1}$ Within this range, the experimental results showed that the four-point bending strength and the deflection of the interlayer increased with increasing the strain rate.

Ag층을 이용한 Sn과 In의 무 플럭스 접합 (Fluxless Bonding Method between Sn and In Bumps Using Ag Capping Layer)

  • 본 실험에서는 Ag 층을 이용한 무 플럭스 접합 공정을 개발하였으며 Ag의 유무에 따른 효과를 관찰하기 위해 In ($10{\mu}m$)과 Sn ($10{\mu}m$)솔더 및 Ag (100 nm)/In과 Ag/Sn 솔더를 thermal evaporation 방법으로 하부 금속층 위에 형성하였다. 접합부의 접촉저항과 전단 하중을 측정하기 위해 쿠폰시편을 제조하였으며 이리한 쿠폰시편은 $130^{\circ}C$에서 0.8, 1.6, 3.2 MPa의 접합압력을 가하여 30초간 접합을 실시하였다. 전단하중과 4단자 저항측정법을 이용하여 접합부의 특성을 분석하였으며 주사전자현미경(Scanning Electron Microscope), EDS (Energy Dispersive Spectrometry)과 X-ray mapping을 통해 접합부를 관찰하였다. 전단하중 측정 결과 0.8 MPa에서는 In-Sn 솔더의 접합이 이루어지지 않았으며 접합압력이 증가해도 Ag/In-Ag/Sn 시편의 전단하중 측정값이 In-Sn 시편에 비해 높게 나타났다. 접합부의 저항감은 $2-4\;m{\Omega}$을 나타내었으며 접합압력이 증가할수록 In-Sn 혼합층이 더 많이 관찰되었다.

The structures and catalytic activities of metallic nanoparticles on mixed oxide

  • The metallic nanoparticles (Pt, Au, Ag. Cu, etc.) supported on ceria-titania mixed oxide exhibit a high catalytic activity for the water gas shift reaction ($H_2O\;+\;CO\;{\leftrightarrow}\;H_2\;+\;CO_2$) and the CO oxidation ($O_2\;+\;2CO\;{\leftrightarrow}\;2CO_2$). It has been speculated that the high catalytic activity is related to the easy exchange of the oxidation states of ceria ($Ce^{3+}$ and $Ce^{4+}$) on titania, but very little is known about the ceria titanium interaction, the growth mode of metal on ceria titania complex, and the reaction mechanism. In this work, the growth of $CeO_x$ and Au/$CeO_x$ on rutile $TiO_2$(110) have been investigated by Scanning Tunneling Microscopy (STM), Photoelectron Spectroscopy (PES), and DFT calculation. In the $CeO_x/TiO_2$(110) systems, the titania substrate imposes on the ceria nanoparticles non-typical coordination modes, favoring a $Ce^{3+}$ oxidation state and enhancing their chemical activity. The deposition of metal on a $CeO_x/TiO_2$(110) substrate generates much smaller nanoparticles with an extremely high activity. We proposed a mechanism that there is a strong coupling of the chemical properties of the admetal and the mixed-metal oxide: The adsorption and dissociation of water probably take place on the oxide, CO adsorbs on the admetal nanoparticles, and all subsequent reaction steps occur at the oxide-admetal interface.
