Objectives: The purpose of this study is to report the effect of Korean Herbal Medicine (KHM) on a Renal Cell Carcinoma with multiple liver metastases patient. Methods: One renal cell carcinoma with multiple liver metastases patient was treated by KHM in conjunction with targeted anticancer agent (Afinitor). The effect of KHM was measured by scanning with Computed Tomography (CT), Blood Test, Visual Analogue Scale (VAS) and Eastern Cooperative Oncology Group scale. Results: Multiple hepatic tumors were reduced after the treatment during 5 months (Partial Remission, PR). As treatment was performed, complications induced by targeted anticancer agent (Afinitor) were alleviated. Conclusions: This case provides us a possibility that Korean Herbal Medicine offers potential benefits for renal cell carcinoma with multiple liver metastases patient.

Solid dispersion (SD) system of everolimus (EVR) with Gelucire 50/13 (Stearoyl polyoxyl-32 glycerides) was prepared using melt granulation technique with the aim of improving the physicochemical properties and dissolution rate. The solid state characterization using scanning electron microscopy and X-ray powder diffraction, indicated that the drug was homogeneously distributed in the surfactant carrier in a stable amorphous form. The dissolution rate of EVR from the optimized SD composed of the drug, Gelucire 50/13 and microcrystalline cellulose in a weight ratio of 1:5:10, was markedly rapid and higher than that from the drug powder and the market product (Afinitor$^{(R)}$, Novartis Pharmaceuticals) in all dissolution mediums tested from pH 3.0 to pH 6.8. The results of this study suggest that formulation of SD with Gelucire 50/13 using melt granulation procedure may be a simple and promising approach for improving the dissolution rate and oral absorption of the anti-cancer agent without the need for using an organic solvent.

Although patients with breast cancer receive standard treatments, they often experience recurrence or metastasis of tumors. Therefore, patients seeking treatment with traditional Korean medicine (TKM) in addition to conventional treatment have increased. We present a case of 46-year-old female with recurring breast cancer. She underwent surgeries and various hormone therapies since being diagnosed in 2007. Upon follow-up examination, she had metastatic lesions on the lung and multiple bones in 2015 and 2016. She received TKM treatments from May 2017 with Aromasin and Afinitor. However, hepatic metastasis was found after two months, so she started Capecitabine with TKM. After about two months, the liver nodules disappeared and a seeding nodule in the right paracolic gutter was decreased. After two months, the tumor response was stable disease. Back pain due to bone metastasis was improved. We suggest that combination treatment of TKM and chemotherapy is a promising method for treating breast cancer.
