Facile Evaluation of Thermodynamic Parameters for Reverse Thermochromism of Indolinobenzospiropyran-6-carboxylates in Aqueous Binary Solvents

  • The position of the thermodynamic equilibrium for reverse thermochromic spiropyran 6-carboxylates (SP-COOHs) was easily determined in aqueous binary mixtures, such as water-methanol, water-acetonitrile and water-dimethyl sulfoxide. The existence of more than one type of interconvertible species of the ring-opened form of SP-COOH in aqueous binary solvents enables us to evaluate the molar extinction coefficients of the ring-opened species of SP-COOH and to obtain the thermodynamic parameters.

  • The unequivocal solid-state structure and stereochemistry of the hetaryl leuco-TAM dye, 2,2’-(2-phenyl propane- 1,3-diylidene) bis(1,3,3- trimethylindoline) derivatives were established using X-ray single crystal analysis. The X-ray crystal analysis showed that the (Z, E)-isomers only formed stereoselectively, with a so-called “threebladed propeller” conformation, from the reaction of a Fischer base and benzaldehyde derivatives. These isomers were stacked in a juxtaposition to form a dimer or a double dimer, adopting either a triclinic, with P-1, or monoclinic crystal system with a space group P21/n in the unit cell of the crystal.

  • The basis of the cobalt demand analysis by use was established via the investigation and analysis of the cobalt materials flow, and the overall cobalt metal material and parts industry structure in Korea was examined to determine the cobalt material flow. The markets of the cobalt material for machinery were studied, including their interrelations, via market and study trends, and relevant plans were examined. The results of the study indicated that the advanced core technology for advanced industry and technology-intensive industry development is required to structurally innovate the parts materials and basic materials industries and to upgrade the catch-up industry structure to the new frontier structure.

Microcavity 적용 광자 발광 소자의 광 추출 향상 연구 (Enhanced Light Outcoupling on Photo-luminescent Devices with Microcavity)

  • Recently, microcavity is studied to reduce the optical loss of BLU and OLED. In this paper, we suggest applying microcavity to photo-luminescent lamp with plasma discharge technology to meet the display applications for a BLU for LCD. The structure of photo-luminescent lamp consists of SUS foil and ITO glass with microcavity. The opto-electric characteristics of photo-luminescent lamp with microcavity was evaluated. The brightness of photo-luminescent device was increased over $111cd/m^2$ with the adaptation of patterned microcavity at $30{\mu}m$. The 3D optical simulation verified the enhanced light outcoupling when microcavity applied to the device.

Grain Boundaries Imaged by Integration of Sobel Filtered Scanning Transmission Electron Micrographs

  • One of the most important factors determining the properties of a material is its grain size. However, unclear grain boundaries in the image hinder an accurate measurement of grain size. We demonstrate that grain boundaries existing in the images obtained by scanning transmission electron microscopy (STEM) can be clearly distinguished by applying a Sobel filter to a tilting series of STEM images of a hydrogenation-disproportionation-desorption-recombination processed Nd2Fe14B magnet sample.

  • The materials applied to the aircraft fuselage, parts, and components must be verified by relative authorities in accordance with the procedures set by the airworthiness authority to achieve the aircraft type certification. There are no examples of domestic composite materials which were verified in order to be applied to aircraft structure. In this study, the composite material certification system of NCAMP, an American composite material standard certification organization, was reviewed and used as the fundamentals of the first aerospace composite material certification system in ROK(Fig 2,8). Also updated material certification documents were developed and confirmed by material certification engineers and inspectors. This aerospace composite material qualification system is intended to modernize the material certification system for AAM(Advanced Air Mobility) as well as aircraft and to enhance the understanding of related technicians and inspectors.

  • The addition of nano/micro silica into unsaturated polyester resin (UPR) results in the improvement of the electrical properties of Silica-UPR composites. The surface, volume resistivity, dielectric strength, dissipation factor and dry arc resistivity of nano silica-UPR composites were found to improve significantly. The effects of the nano and micro fillers in UPR have been evaluated. They are presented in this paper. To evaluate the electrical properties of the nano & micro composites, all the measurements were done as per the prescribed methods in ASTM. It was observed that the addition of nano silica improves the electrical properties as compared to micro silica. The better dispersion of silica particles in unsaturated polyester resin enhances the electrical properties of silica-UPR composites.

Luminescent properties of a new yellow phosphor $CaBaSiS_4:Eu^{2+}$ synthesized by an advanced chemical solution method

  • We report on preparation of $CaBaSiS_4:Eu^{2+}$ material by an advanced chemical solution method and fluorescent properties of the new material. The emission spectrum of $CaBaSiS_4:Eu^{2+}$ has the main peak centered at 598 nm, with the corresponding excitation maximum at around 420 nm. The strongest emission intensity of this material approached 96% compared to one of the best commercially available YAG:$Ce^{3+}$ phosphor.
