  • Distributions of residual stress in diffusion bonding of dissimilar materials intermetallics TiAl to steel 40Cr were simulated by FEM calculation. Results showed that destructive residual stresses presented in the minute area adjacent to bond-line of the base material with smaller coefficient of thermal expansion. Reducing bonding temperature and diminishing bonding time are in favor of the mollification of interface tresses.

  • Carbon fiber is a material with excellent mechanical, electrical and thermal properties, which is widely used as a composite material made of a polymer matrix. However, this composite material has a weak point of interlaminar delamination due to weak interfacial bond with polymer matrix compared with high strength and elasticity of carbon fiber. In order to solve this problem, it is essential to use reinforcements. Due to excellent mechanical properties, graphene have been expected to have large improvement in physical properties as a reinforcing material. However, the aggregation of graphene and the weak interfacial bonding have resulted in failure to properly implement reinforcement effect. In order to solve this problems, dispersibility will be improved. In this study, functionalization of graphene nanoplatelet was proceeded with melamine and mixed with epoxy polymer matrix. The carbon fiber reinforced polymer composites were fabricated using the prepared graphene nanoplatelet/epoxy and flexural properties and interlaminar shear strength were measured. As a result, it was confirmed that the dispersibility of graphene nanoplatelet was improved and the mechanical properties of the composite material were increased.

  • Few-walled carbon nanotubes (FWNTs)-based field emitters with long term stability are fabricated by using a spray method. Tetraethylorthosilicate (TEOS) sol as a binder was mixed with dispersed solution of FWNTs to enhance the adhesion of FWNTs on the cathode substrate. Due to the strong intermolecular interaction of TEOS to the functional groups attached on CNTs and substrate, CNTs are tightly adhered to the cathode electrode when heat treatment is performed at $150^{\circ}C$ for 1 hour, resulting in a stable electron emission of CNT emitters for long time. Excellent field emission characteristics were exhibited, with a large field enhancement factor and low turn-on voltage, comparable to those of CNT emitters fabricated by a screen printing of CNT paste. Therefore, FWNTs / TEOS hybrid films could be utilized as an alternative for the efficient and reliable field emitters.

  • In recent years, new materials and technology has been developed using single-walled carbon nanotubes (SWCNTs) as an alternative to indium tin oxide (ITO) to fulfil the requirements towards novel technological drive. These technologies offer products having a broad range of conductivity, excellent transparency, neutral color tone, good adhesion, abrasion resistance as well as mechanical robustness. In addition, SWCNTs can be solution processed to replace the sophisticated vacuum techniques at high temperatures. In the present work, transparent conducting films were fabricated from the purified SWCNTs. Dispersion of purified SWCNTs was accomplished in 1,2-dichlorobenzene without using surfactants or polymers following ultrasonic process. We achieved coating of nanotubes film on poly ether suiphone (PES) for an average sheet resistance ~110 ${\Omega}/{\Box}$ of optical transmittance 80% at 550 nm. Conventional spin coating method was followed to fabricate films from the purified and dispersed nanotubes solution. The results will be presented.

  • Auto focusing system to find optimized focal position of laser beam used for material process has been investigated by using fiber confocal method. Wavelength of laser diode (LD) and diameter of single-mode fiber are 780nm and $5.3{\mu}m$, respectively. Intensity distributions of beam reflected from the surface of mirror and silicon bare wafer have been observed in a gaussian form. Experimental results show that focal position obtained by LD is shifted from one observed from surface scribed by laser about $80{\mu}m$. It is due to the difference of wavelength and each divergence of between LD and laser used for material process. It is confirmed that auto focusing control system through position calibration has operated steadily.
