  • Laboratory experiments were conducted to examine the behavior of metalaxyl in environment which was used as pesticide in green soil of golf course and as functions of the characteristics of adsorption, desorption and degradation in soil texture and organic matter contents. Acid water containing metalaxyl was conducted to evaluate the effects on adsorption, desorption and degradation. The adsorption of metalaxyl played more significant role in organic contents than clay contents, and pH Increases more pH 2.5 than pH 5.6. The desorption of metalaxyl from contaminants soil decreased higher organic contents LS-soil than S-soil, but the desorption amount of metalaxyl increased more pH 5.6 than pH 2.5. The rate of degradation of metalaxyl in green soil environmental increased higher organic contents LS-soil than S-soil and decreased more pH 2.5 than pH 5.6. These results indicated that the behavior of metalaxyl of the green soil was affected the soil texture of the golf course. Increasing of organic contents, the adsorption amount of metalaxyl on soil increased. Moreover the decrease of the pH of solution increased adsorption amounts and decreased desorption amounts. As the results, the transportation of metalaxyl in soil decreased the acidic rates. The acidification of soil by the acid rain increased the adsorption amount of metalaxyl, but the degradation of metalaxyl decreased. Therefore, it is possible to sustain contamination in run-off the stream and ground water by residuals in soil.

  • The purpose of this work is to study the adsorption and desorption characteristics of acetone vapor and toluene vapor from adsorption tower in the VOCs recovery device. The six kinds of activated carbon with different pore structures were used and the adsorption and desorption characteristics were compared according to pore structure, desorption temperature, and adsorption method, respectively. Adsorption capacity of acetone vapor and toluene vapor by batch method was higher than that by dynamic method. Especially, activated carbon with medium-sized or large pores had more difference in adsorption capacity according to adsorption methods as a result of gradually condensation of vapors on relatively mesopore and large pores. Activated carbons with relatively large pores and relatively small saturated adsorption capacity had excellent desorption ability.

  • To develop flexible adsorbents for compact volatile organic compound (VOC) air purifiers, flexible as-spun zeolite fibers are prepared by an electrospinning method, and then zeolite particles are exposed as active sites for VOC (toluene) adsorption on the surface of the fibers by a thermal surface partial etching process. The breakthrough curves for the adsorption and temperature programmed desorption (TPD) curves of toluene over the flexible zeolite fibers is investigated as a function of the thermal etching temperature by gas chromatography (GC), and the adsorption/desorption characteristics improves with an increase in the thermal surface etching temperature. The effect of acidity on the flexible zeolite fibers for the removal of toluene is investigated as a function of the $SiO_2/Al_2O_3$ ratios of zeolites. The acidity of the flexible zeolite fibers with different $SiO_2/Al_2O_3$ ratios is measured by ammonia-temperature-programmed desorption ($NH_3-TPD$), and the adsorption/desorption characteristics are investigated by GC. The results of the toluene adsorption/desorption experiments confirm that a higher $SiO_2/Al_2O_3$ ratio of the flexible zeolite fibers creates a better toluene adsorption/desorption performance.

  • Sorption/desorption studies were conducted to determine sorption/desorption characteristics of phenolic compounds (phenol and 4-chlorophenol) in organically modified natural bentonite. The cationic exchange capacity (CEC) of bentonite was exchanged with a cationic surfactant, hexadecyltrimethylammonium (HDTMA), to enhance the removal capacity of organic phenol contaminants dissolved in aqueous solution. This modification produces a change of the surface property of bentonite from hydrophilic to organophilic. The single-solute and bi-solute competitive adsorptions were performed In batch mode to investigate the removal of two toxic organic Phenols, chlorophenol and 4-chlorophenol on the HDTMA-bentonite. The adsorption affinity of the 4-chlorophenol was higher than phenol due to higher octanol:water partition coefficient (Kow). The single-solute and bi-solute competitive desorptions were also performed investigate the competitive desorption of the phenolic compounds from HDTMA-bentonite. Freundlich model was used to analyze the single-solute adsorption/desorption results, while the IAST model predicted the hi-solute adsorption/desorption equilibria. The IAST model well predicted hi-solute competitive adsorption/desorption behaviors.

  • Batch type adsorption and desorption tests were performed with different types (Powder, Granule) of Layered double hydroxides (LDHs) saturated with phosphate. The adsorption isotherm was approximated as a modified Langmuir type equation. The maximum adsorption capacity was 55 mg-P/g-LDH for powder type LDH, and 46 mg-P/g-LDH for granule type LDH. The highest phosphate desorption (79.6%) was obtained with 20% NaOH solution, whereas the desorption degrees were 4.8, 22.2% and 46.7% in the solutions of acidic condition (pH 4), 30% NaCl, and 3% NaOH, respectively. It was suggested that the optimal condition for the phosphate desorption from LDH was 30% NaCl + 3~6% NaOH solutions. The desorption characteristics of LDH was little influenced by adsorbent type.

  • In this study, we have investigated the characteristics of adsorption and desorption of toluene, methyl ethyl ketone (MEK) and their binary component using activated carbon. The BET analysis was performed to identify the characteristics of the activated carbon, and the desorption characteristics with temperature were examined to find out an optimum desorption temperature. Ten cyclic experiments of adsorption-desorption were performed, where each adsorption temperature was maintained at room temperature and desorption temperature at upto $120^{\circ}C$. In case of single component cyclic test, the efficiencies of adsorption and desorption decreased as the cycle increased. MEK which has lower affinity with activated carbon than toluene showed lower efficiencies of adsorption and desorption. In case of binary component cyclic test, a typical roll-up phenomenon was observed during adsorption process, where MEK reaches at breakpoint first and then was swept out by toluene.

  • This study is experimentally performed for using the oyster shell as a desiccant in the batch type system. The peltier element(thermoelectric device) is used for absorbing and releasing the adsorption and desorption heat generation. The cooling and heating effects of peltier element exist in this experiment and these effects are generally known phenomena among some references. The increase in electric current induced into peltier element is effectively release the heat generation of adsorption and desorption. Consequently, the non-dimensional adsorption and desorption amount would increase with increase in electric current. However, in the case of adsorption, the increase of induced current into peltier element, the heat of cold side can not release sufficiently. So the heat of hot side of peltier is transferred into the cold side.

  • The adsorption and desorption of herbicides such as napropamide and pendimethalin was studied in three kinds of soil. sandy loam. silty clay and loam. The results of batch tests performed with various shaking time, pH, organic matter content and temperature in soil were summarized as follows. The shaking times reached to the equilibrium of the adsorption and desorption for napropamide and pendimethalin in soil were 12 and 6 hours. respectively. For each soil. the adsorption rates of napropamide were 23.35%. 31.57% and 25.95%, the desorption rates of them were 18.42%, 13.42% and 15.89%, respectively. And the adsorption rates of pendimethalin were 59.61%, 77.26% and 64.02%, and the desorption rates of them were 3.23%, 2.93% and 3.07%, respectively. The adsorption isotherms with the Freundlich equation showed better consistency than those with the Langmuir one. The adsorption was affected by the organic matter content when it exceed 2.0%. But if the organic matter content is below 2.0%, it was affected by the clay content. When the organic matter content is 0.95~7.45%, the adsorption coefficients ($K_{fa}$) of napropamide and pendimethalin were 1.17~2.50 and 4.74~16.08 and the desorption coefficients($K_{fd}$) of them were 5.33~34.06 and 24.25~134.00, respectively. Because of the physical adsorption between herbicide molecules and soil surface, little effect of pH variation of soils was appeared for the adsorption and desorption. Because of the solubility of herbicide is related to the temperature, the adsorption rate was decreased and the desorption rate was increased with the temperature increase, respectively.
