This study was executed to measure the shear bond strength of Panavia EX and Panavia 21 when the Ni-Cr-Be alloy castings were cemented to the enamel surfaces with these cements. The cast metal plates of Ni-Cr-Be alloy were sandblasted and cemented to acid etched enamel surface with Panavia EX or Panavia 21. Their shear bond strength were measured with Instron Universal Testing machine. Within the limits of this study, following conclusions were withdrawn. 1. The mean shear bond strength were 26.85.7MPa, in Panavia EX and 28.35.2MPa, in Panavia 21. 2. t-Test revealed no statistical significance between two groups(.05 level) 3. Macroscopically, bond failures were revealed compound fracture at metal and enamel interfaces, in cases of both cements, as the cement attached partly on both metal and enamel surface.
The purpose of this study was to evaluate the effects of surface conditioning with $10\%$ polyacrylic acid, etching with $38\%$ phosphoric acid, and polishing with a slurry of pumice on shear bond strengths of light-cured glass ionomer cement, chemically cured glass ionomer cement, and a composite resin to enamel, and to observe the failure patterns of bracket bondings. Shear bond strengths of glass ionomer cements were compared with that of a composite resin. Metal brackets were bonded on the extracted human bicuspids after enamel surface treatments, and samples were immersed in the $37^{\circ}C$ distilled water bath, and shear bond strengths of glass ionomer cements and a composite resin were measured on the Instron machine after 24hrs passed, and the deboned samples were measured in respect of adhesive remnant index. Scanning electron micrographs were taken of enamel surfaces after various treatments. The data were evaluated and tested by ANOVA and Duncan's multiple range test, and those results were as follows. 1. Shear bond strength of light-cured glass ionomer cement showed statistically higher than that of chemically cured glass ionomer cement. 2. Shear bond strengths of light-cured and chemically cured glass ionomer cements to enamel treated with $10\%$ polyacrylic acid and $38\%$ phosphoric acid showed statistically higher than those with a slurry of pumice. 3. According to scanning electron micrographs, enamel surface conditioned with $10\%$ polyacrylic acid is slightly etched and cleaned, that etched with $38\%$ phosphoric acid is severely etched, and that polished with a slurry of pumice is irregulary scretched and not completely cleaned. 4. After debonding, light-cured glass ionomer cement to enamel treated with $10\%$ polyacrylic acid showed less residual materials on the enamel solace than composite resin to enamel etched with $38\%$ phosphoric acid. 5. There was no significant difference in the shear bond strength of light-cured glass ionomer cement to enamel treated with $10\%$ polyacrylic acid and that of composite resin to enamel etched with $38\%$ Phosphoric acid.

PURPOSE. The aim of this study was to compare the surface roughness of zirconia when using Zircos E etching system (ZSAT), applying a nitric acid-hydrofluoric acid compound as a pretreatment agent, and also to compare the shear bonding strength according to different resin cements. MATERIALS AND METHODS. ZSAT, air abrasion, and tribochemical silicacoating were applied on prepared 120 zirconia specimens (10 mm in diameter, 7 mm in height) using CAD/CAM. Each 12 specimens with 4 different resin cements (Panavia F 2.0, Rely X Unicem, Superbond C&B, and Hot bond) were applied to test interfacial bond strength. The statistical analysis was performed using SAS 9.1 (SAS Institute Inc., Cary, NC, USA). The results are as follows: after application of the ZSAT on the zirconia specimens, surface roughness value after 2-hour etching was higher than those after 1- and 3-hour etching on SEM images. RESULTS. For Superbond C&B and Rely X Unicem, the specimens treated with ZSAT showed higher shear bond strength values than those treated with air abrasion and tribochemical silicacoating system. Regarding the failure mode of interface over cement and zirconia surface, Rely X Unicem and Hot bond showed cohesive failures and Panavia F 2.0 and Superbond C&B showed mixed failures. CONCLUSION. Zircos E etching system in zirconia restoration could increase its shear bond strength. However, its long term success rate and clinical application should be further evaluated.

PURPOSE. The purpose of this study was to investigate the effect of resin cements and primer on the retentive force of zirconia copings bonded to zirconia abutments with insufficient retention. MATERIALS AND METHODS. Zirconia blocks (Lava, 3M ESPE, St. Paul, MN, USA) were obtained and forty sets of zirconia abutments and copings were fabricated using CAD/CAM technology. They were grouped into 4 categories as follows, depending on the types of resin cements used, and whether the primer is applied or not:Panavia F2.0 (P), Panavia F2.0 using Primer (PRIME Plus, Bisco Inc, Schaumburg, IL, USA) (PZ), Superbond C&B (S), and Superbond C&B using Primer (SZ). For each of the groups, the cementation was conducted. The specimens were kept in sterilized water ($37^{\circ}C$) for 24 hours. Retentive forces were tested and measured, and a statistical analysis was carried out. The nature of failure was recorded. RESULTS. The means and standard deviations of retentive force in Newton for each group were $265.15{\pm}35.04$ N (P), $318.21{\pm}22.24$ N (PZ), $445.13{\pm}78.54$ N (S) and $508.21{\pm}79.48$ N (SZ). Superbond C&B groups (S & SZ) showed significantly higher retentive force than Panavia F2.0 groups (P & PZ). In Panavia F2.0 groups, the use of primer was found to contribute to the increase of retentive force. On the other hand, in Superbond C&B groups, the use of primer did not influence the retention forces. Adhesive failure was observed in all groups. CONCLUSION. This study suggests that cementation of the zirconia abutments and zirconia copings with Superbond C&B have a higher retentive force than Panavia F2.0. When using Panavia F2.0, the use of primer increases the retentive force.

Objectives: The aim of the present study was to investigate the bond strength of RelyX Unicem (3M) to root canal dentin when used as an endodontic sealer. Materials and Methods: Samples of 24 single-rooted teeth were prepared with Gates Glidden drills and K3 files. After that, the roots were randomly assigned to three experimental groups (n = 8) according to the filling material, (1) AH Plus (Dentsply De Trey GmbH)/Gutta-Percha cone; (2) Epiphany SE (Pentron)/Resilon cone; (3) RelyX Unicem/Gutta-Percha cone. All roots were filled using a single cone technique associated to vertical condensation. After the filling procedures, each tooth was prepared for a push-out bond strenght test by cutting 1 mm-thick root slices. Loading was performed on a universal testing machine at a speed of 0.5 mm/min. One-way analysis of variance and Tukey test for multiple comparisons were used to compare the results among the experimental groups. Results: Epiphany SE/Resilon showed significantly lower push-out bond strength than both AH Plus/Gutta-Percha and RelyX Unicem/Gutta-Percha (p < 0.05). There was no significant difference in bond strength between AH Plus/Gutta-Percha and RelyX Unicem/Gutta-Percha (p > 0.05). Conclusions: Under the present in vitro conditions, bond strength to root dentin promoted by RelyX Unicem was similar to AH Plus. Epiphany SE/Resilon resulted in lower bond strength values when compared to both materials.

Orthodontic seamless bands are frequently used in pediatric dentistry. In the process of seating bands with luting cement coated inside, not uniformed coating might bring about various problems such as enamel decalcification and/or gingivitis, and this clinical trial was made to review several band-seating methods to exclude these risks. One kind of band luting cement and one size of seamless bands were used on the resin replicas of an extracted maxillary and mandibular 1st molar with three different seating methods 1. seating the band with the luting cement coated only inside the band, 2. seating the band with the luting cement coated inside the band and on axial surfaces of the teeth, 3. seating the band with the adhesive tape on the occlusal opening of the band and the luting cement coated only inside the band. After cement was completely set, bands were peeled off from the teeth and the status of cement coating was evaluated. With this experiment more uniformed coating of the luting cement was found in latter two groups. These methods are thought more appropriate to almost completely rule out the risk of unevenly coated cement beneath the bands by conventional method.
Purpose. To investigate the fracture resistance of monolithic CAD-CAM all-ceramic surveyed crowns with two different occlusal rest seat designs. Materials and Methods. Two maxillary first premolar were prepared for all-ceramic surveyed crowns with wide (2/3rd of buccolingual width of an unprepared tooth) or narrow (1/3rd of buccolingual width of an unprepared tooth) disto-occlusal rest seat (ORS) designs. Eighty monolithic CAD-CAM all-ceramic surveyed crowns were prepared and divided into 4 groups - Group CR, Composite resin material as a control; Group LDS, Lithium disilicate based material; Group ZIPS, zirconia-material (IPS ZirCAD); and Group ZLHT, zirconia- material (CeramillZolidht+). Crowns were cemented on an epoxy resin die with adhesive resin cement. The fracture resistance of crowns was tested with the universal machine. Univariate regression analysis was used. Results. The mean ± standard deviation of maximum failure force values varied from 3476.10 ± 285.97 N for the narrow ORS subgroup of group ZIPS to 687.89 ± 167.63 N for the wide ORS subgroup of group CR. The mean ± standard deviation of maximum force was 1075 ± 77.0 N for group CR, 1309.3 ± 283.9 N for group LDS, 3476.1 ± 285.97 N for group ZIPS, and 2666.7 ± 228.21 N for group ZLHT, with narrow occlusal rest seat design. The results of the intergroup comparison showed significant differences in fracture strength with various material groups and occlusal rest seat designs (P<.001). Conclusion. The zirconia-based all-ceramic surveyed crowns fractured at more than double the load of Lithium disilicate based crowns. The crowns with narrow base occlusal rest seat design had statistically significantly higher fracture resistance than surveyed crowns with wide occlusal rest seat design. The use of narrow occlusal rest seat design in CAD-CAM all ceramic surveyed crowns provides higher fracture resistance, and therefore narrow occlusal rest design can be used for providing esthetics with high strength.

The purpose of this study was to compare the effect of various dentin bonding systems on microtensile bond strength of immediate dentin sealing (IDS) and delayed dentin sealing (DDS). Eighteen extracted permanent molars were used in this study. The teeth for DDS group were restored with a provisional restorations, and immersed in saline solution for 1 week, and divided into 3 subgroups according to various dentin bonding adhesives; SB subgroup (3 step total-etch adhesive), SE subgroup (2 step self-etch adhesive), XE subgroup (1 step self-etch adhesive). In IDS group, the teeth were divided into 3 subgroups, and applied with bonding adhesives as in DDS group. The teeth were restored with provisional restorations, and immersed in saline solution for 1 week. Indirect composite disc was cemented with resin cement, and all specimens were subjected to microtensile bond strength. The data were statistically analyzed with oneway ANOVA and Student t-test. The results were as follows: 1. The IDS group showed significantly higher ${\mu}TBS$ than DDS group in 3 step total-etch and 2 step selfetch adhesive (p < 0.05). 2. In IDS and DDS group, 3 step total-etch adhesive showed the highest ${\mu}TBS$ value, followed by 2 step self-etch, and 1 step self-etch adhesive. In IDS group, the ${\mu}TBS$ value for 1 step self-etch adhesive was significantly different from those of the other subgroups (p < 0.05), and in DDS group, there were statistical differences in all subgroup (p < 0.05). 3. Failure modes of tested dentin bonding adhesives were mostly mixed failure and only 1 step self-etch adhesive showed adhesive failure.
Purpose: While studies have examined microleakage in endodontically treated teeth restored with posts, microleakage among post and adhesive systems remains a concern. This study compared the sealing properties of 3 adhesively luted post systems. Materials and methods: Thirty-six endodontically treated permanent maxillary central incisors were divided into 3 groups: Zirconia-glass fiber, Quartz-glass fiber, Polyethylene fiber posts. Post space was prepared and each post was adhesively luted with 3 systems. The specimens were separately immersed in freshly prepared 2% methylene blue solution for 1 week. The cleaned specimens were then embedded in autopolymerizing acrylic resin. The root portion of tooth were horizontally sectioned into three pieces (apical, middle, and coronal portions). An occlusal view of each section was digitally photographed with a stereomicroscope. The methylene blue-infiltrated surface for each specimen was measured. Dye penetration was estimated as the ratio of the methylene blue-infiltrated surface to the total dentin surface. Results: No significant differences were found among post types. The variables of middle section and 3-stage adhesive produced significant differences in microleakage between the following post pairs: zirconia-glass fiber versus quartz-glass fiber, zirconia-glass fiber versus polyethylene fiber, and quartz-glass fiber versus polyethylene fiber (P<.05). There were significant differences between the apical and coronal sections of each post type, and between apical versus middle sections of quarze-glass fiber and polyethylene fiber posts (P<.05). Conclusion: No significant differences were found among post types. The 3-stage adhesive produced significant differences in microleakage between the following post pairs.

Objectives: To determine the combined effect of fatigue cyclic loading and thermocycling (CLTC) on the shear bond strength (SBS) of a resin cement to zirconia surfaces that were previously air-abraded with aluminum oxide ($Al_2O_3$) particles at different pressures. Materials and Methods: Seventy-two cuboid zirconia specimens were prepared and randomly assigned to 3 groups according to the air-abrasion pressures (1, 2, and 2.8 bar), and each group was further divided into 2 groups depending on aging parameters (n = 12). Panavia F 2.0 was placed on pre-conditioned zirconia surfaces, and SBS testing was performed either after 24 hours or 10,000 fatigue cycles (cyclic loading) and 5,000 thermocycles. Non-contact profilometry was used to measure surface roughness. Failure modes were evaluated under optical and scanning electron microscopy. The data were analyzed using 2-way analysis of variance and ${\chi}^2$ tests (${\alpha}=0.05$). Results: The 2.8 bar group showed significantly higher surface roughness compared to the 1 bar group (p < 0.05). The interaction between pressure and time/cycling was not significant on SBS, and pressure did not have a significant effect either. SBS was significantly higher (p = 0.006) for 24 hours storage compared to CLTC. The 2 bar-CLTC group presented significantly higher percentage of pre-test failure during fatigue compared to the other groups. Mixed-failure mode was more frequent than adhesive failure. Conclusions: CLTC significantly decreased the SBS values regardless of the air-abrasion pressure used.
